can I chill around in this game or are xeno niggers going to attack me at some point
>>
>>741598287
you'll always get attacked. turns out aliens are just as hostile as humans to other species.
>>
Generally speaking you can chill, if you make the sort of decisions that enable you to chill. Building relations, having a cooperative diplomatic stance, not colonizing systems that the AI player sees as theirs, not being so militarily weak you are seen as free real estate, limiting your borders to a few choke points, that sort of thing: you can be pretty assured the AI won't attack if you have stellar relations, and you can make active decisions to achieve this. An exception of this are empires locked to aggressive diplomacy stance, like fanatical purifiers, but they too can be pretty well deterred by force.

Also, in advanced settings there's AI aggressiveness option, and the AI difficulty (read: amount of cheats) factors into if they start out stronger of if they can keep up, and this influences the deterrence factor.

I dunno I only got maybe 80 hours in this game on a few plays and I've never gotten into an interstellar war yet, but then again I never played a militarist race yet.

how? i was an irenic dictatorship and they instantly swooped in on all sides to enslave me. turns out it's survival of the fittest in the cosmos.
>>
>>741598995
I just get good RNG I guess.
>>
>>741598287
maybe. sometimes you'll just meet an extremely aggressive race and they don't care about diplomacy, forcing you into war.
>>
>>741599306
I was like "surely I can overcome my captors"
then the game said "this is the absolute worst outcome in the game" lol

>>741598473
This is realistic, as it is how 'dark forest theory' describes the problem with alien contact. Everyone in the galaxy has every reason to stay hidden as long as possible.

If you got a massive fleet, nobody will attack you. they all magically know. same with when you have nothing. they will all know and take turns fucking you
>>
>>741598287
Play Endless Space II as the tree niggers or the dommy mommy milkers merchants.
>>
>>741602546
do you think ES2 is better than stellaris?
>>
>>741602253
The unironic short answer is no because even if dumb space niggers dont attack you, you wont survive the endgame threat if you just "chill"
>>
If you want to see how well isolationism works go ask the Qing, stupid
>>
build big fleet relatively early, and big enough to fight your neighbors
but then don't fight them
mysteriously they will sense the size of your military peen and not aggro you
then build fortresses at your chokepoints, play simcity and grow tall
>>
>>741602613
I like it more than Stellaris at least. Stellaris has more aliens. If you wanted combat I'd say Sins of a Solar Empire II is best. There are mods for ES2 to make combat less likely or no combat at all allowing you to have culture, relgious, diplomatic, etc victories. Basically deletes the space niggers (robots) from the game.
>>
>>741598287
If you are weak they Will attack you. In new patch some random xeno can join in the on going wars, happened in my last game and my fleet was on the other side of the galaxy.
>>
I wish aliens had more agency in stellaris. they go to war, expand, colonize completely random. their current situation has zero impact on what they do beyond "if myFleet > theirFleet: attack, else do nothing"

>then build fortresses at your chokepoints, play simcity and grow tall
Many years ago (while planets still had tiles) I did this. Controlled two chokepoint systems at the opposite ends of my realm, both with megafortresses capable of halting any enemy aggression towards me. Didn't even need a fleet to stay safe. The downside was that I was kinda stuck in my own little corner, building my ringworlds, while all the interesting shit was happening everywhere around me.

Is this playstyle still possible? Is there enough content in terms of event chains etc. to make a xenophobic tall empire run fun?
