Just started this today, what am I in for? Any tips for overcoming some crapshoot fights that I've stumbled on?
>>741607148>what am I in for?abandoning it like 4 hours in. enjoy
>>741607204I'm actually liking it. The story is interesting, the art direction good and I like poking around the world.
>>741607148Forgot to add, I'm trans
Wands are very very strong and so are bows. Your martials will be quite weak until they get some levels and gear. Its not a combat simulator so focus on exploring, talking to people and enjoy the world.
>>741607148buff potions/spells are your friend.
>>741607227That's BG3, though
>>741607148You're in for an amazing time. My only top is not to look anything up. It's supposed to be a slow burn and supposed to be replayable. Don't try to minmax it through guides, try to minmax it through play. If you play alone, enjoy every moment. If you play with someone else - make sure they are committed, this isn't a 2 hours every weekend game, you need to enjoy it like a good book. Couple hours every day
>>741607148Save often and talk to everybody.
>>741607148Use magic and scrolls when you find yourself in tough situations. A well placed spell or two can completely change an encounter from unwinnable into a cakewalk. Sometimes you'll get unlucky and get obliterated in the first turn but that became more rare as I got further into the game.
>>741607148i always play as half-orc fighter/thief
>>741607528I'll keep this in mind. I just fought an assassin in a tavern and I only won due to RNG. >>741607447Yeah, I like the vibe a lot. I'm doing an undead slayer but trying to dual class into magic for a spellsword DPS build, is this doable?>>741607413The potions saved my life a couple times already.
>>741607528also worth noting that you get an abundance of enchanted arrows throughout the game so bows are almost equally as broken. backstabbing and running away is also busted.
>>741607148Bows are great at the startJaheira and Khalid have a timer when you meet them where they’ll leave your party if you don’t get to Nashkel fast enough, you just have to get there for the timer to stop so if you want them in your party go there before you start exploring side areas.+1 weapons are a huge improvement over the base, for reference there are only a couple weapons in the game that get a +2 version and +3 and further don’t come in until BG2, so you’re pretty much set when you have a party with +1. Due to how early they become available in shops some RPG players not familiar with D&D might choose to skip them thinking to save their money for the next tier up
>>741607148If you have a wizard, sleep is OP
>>741607148use bows. bows are extremely powerful in BG1
>>741607837i like the art but i am too much of an autist to actually use these as portraits because they clash with the game's art style.
>>741607884>>741607740Yeah, I have Imoen on that.
>>741607148>>741607732>>741607740Bows are absolutely fucking OP and are almost 100% guaranteed to hit.Archers KILL you. Mages fuck you over with various turning spells. Spiders poison. Basilisks petrify. Everything else is more or less fodder.
>>741607732>backstabbing and running away is also bustedI mean what else are thieves used for except being the bomb squad?
I'm looking for a CRPG where I can just zone out, chill and get drunk on more stressful days at my job. This a good one for that?
>>741608231No
>>741607635Undead slayer is a classic, I'm assuming you play some sort of cleric or paladin? Dual classing is definitely possible if you're a pure human, and it can be very, very fun. the only thing to keep in mind is that you'll be gaining levels separately in each of your classes, meaning you'll be weaker in each of them. So a pure paladin might be level 7, while a paladin who dual classed might be level 4 with a level 3 in the other class. If you do dual class into magic, that is actually the smartest option, and I would dual class into a class that automatically unlocks a level of spells that you can then cast with your spell slots, rather than a class that has to learn spells individually (like a mage). Because for example, druids and clerics just unlock a whole 7- spell roster of the next level spells when they hit a certain mark. So imagine you're a beefed up fighter, who can then cast a variety of lower level but still powerful cleric/druidic effects, that makes you very powerful.Only other thing to watch out for with multiclassing is gear restrictions, some classes have to wear below a specific tier of armor to be able to use their spells. Thems just the rules. So that's why I advocate for reading carefully which gear is allowed for spellcasting on dual class. More often than not you'll have to downgrade armor to be able to cast spells. It's just something you'll have to accept. But the nice thing is that fighter benefits still work with any armor, so you're still a really strong spellcaster. If for example you're a ranger - you'll still be very powerful with the bow, while ALSO being able to cast spells.I personally don't multiclass because I like having the latest improvement in one class and go narrow and deep rather than wide and knee height, but since you have a whole party with you it shouldn't be a big concern. You'll be far more utilitarian for your party, plus as the OC you'll inevitably be the one with the best gear, best abilities, etc
>>741608136thieves are very useful in BG1 actually, you can avoid pretty much every scripted encounter by just sneaking around and stealing the quest item
>>741607148Save often. >>741607227Get the belt from the ogre.
>>741608231It was made for Dungeons & Dragons 3e sweats
>>741608231Yeah if you play on lower difficulties
>>741608371>>741608767>>741609105What is a good option then?
>>741607148Save. Scout with stealth. Anything can be overcome without RNG with items.
>>741607837This artist's Clara portrait got me to do a playthrough with a mod that added more dialog for her and let you play with her post-quest without bugging out the game
>>741609157BG1 on a lower difficulty
>>741608767it's 2e, which is overall less work to play imothaco is slightly confusing but there are way less build options so it's more clear how to make a decent character
>>7416087672e.
>>741608231Don't listen to those tards, BG can be chill. Without difficulty mods it's quite easy, apart from some initial learning curve and high chance of instadeath in early levels.
>>741608231No BG1 is a monument to frustration, maybe try IWD1 or NWN2 (if you can manage to wrangle that gameplay)
>>741607837how do i install sir?
>>741607837>>741609193NUOOOOOH BG'S PORTRAITS ARE HOLY BLAMELESS CREATIONS OF ABSOLUTE PERFECTION YOU CAN'T CHANGE THEM IN ANY WAY AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!
>>741609483Recommending IceWind Dale by implying it is less frustrating than Baldur's Gate is nefarious.
>>741608231>>741609157Divinity Original Sin is the perfect casual wacky game.
>>741609594There's a readme file in the portrait pack that tells you what to do.https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/75472/portrait-pack-ryoko-kui-dungeon-meshi-delicious-in-dungeon-portrait-pack-bgee-bg2ee-bgeet)>>741609595This portrait was part of what drove me to use the dungeon meshi versions
>>741608231Pillars of Eternity might be up your alley if you think Baldurs Gate is too hard. It also has a better story (at least compared to Baldurs Gate 1)
>>741609706It is way less frustrating than BG1 for sure, it might just take some getting used to but once you're in the groove you're a adventuring god, and best of all you can make all your own niggas
Early combat sucks save often as others said. Don't look up too much unless you get stuck.Import your character through to bg2 and tob. It is an old game so be patient and you will be rewarded with something much better than bg3
