What did old games do better?
visual clarity
>>741618907This especially for RTS and FPS, I can't stand these new games where I can't tell anything apart because it all HAS to be so detailed and realistic. Give me one team in red and another in blue, assholes.
>>741618890they were designed to get you to buy them, not keep playing them
>>741618890strangely enough I feel like a lot of old classics were done with a lot more attention to detail. New games are technically superior, but often lacking in intent.
>>741618907>>7416189413d definitely has to go. Look at the new heroes, with linear perspective everything far away becomes small and messy. Heroes 3 was like an egyptian relief or something, everything has one size independent of position.
>>741618890God old EQ was such a Gem of a game no onther MMO other then ultima has captured the feeling of being afraid of dying in a zone that your not supposed to be in yet but have to cross to get to other leveling zones
>>741619891I never played EQ but original UO was so much fun. It's been downhill ever since.
>>741618890i want more games to look like EQ and im tired of pretending otherwise
>>741620060i really like graphics from around this time period. everquest, morrowind, counterstrike 1.6. i think this is when 3d games were at their strongest in terms of clear visuals. you look at the screen and its almost instantly readable with sharp lines, basic detail and good colors
>>741618890Just experimenting with new ideas since not everything was set in stone. I think it was around gen 7 consoles when major companies started doing everything 'by the book'. Like whatever happened to having fun with the physics engine?
>>741618890that UI is so fucking good man. can't believe the p99 devs are more worried about stopping you from using maps than actually making a functional stone UI for widescreen. (of course they're petty and retarded enough that they would force 4:3 only if they could even though 4:3 res has NOTHING to do with why classic EQ was good)
