It never reaching the same standard as 1 & 2 becauae Kojima is dead and not playtesting every day to give notes on gameplay.

Think about it, if you ever boot up DS2 on mute with nothing but your controller speaker, you're still bombarded with electronic pings, ui noises, and other environmental/Porter sounds. All to immerse you.
