I really feel bad for non-vr fans. HLA was an amazing game. It simply could not have given the same emotional impact in 2D. That's not to say they need to be VR from here on out. No, this was a spinoff.

When I entered the quarantine zone, and I walked up to the little Xen flora/fauna on the walls, it was an unexplainable experience. Those claw things (pic related) from Half-Life? There were baby ones on the walls I ran my finger across. It was a surreal experience that I can't really explain. It's one only a long time Half-Life fan would experience. It was like being thrown into Oz after being a fan of The Wizard of Oz as a kid. It manifested my memories of Half-Life 1/2 as real somehow.

If you're a fan of Half-Life, you owe it to yourself to play it. You'll understand why it's an experience that can't be felt 2D.

but Alyx is better than Half Life 2.
>>
>>741621817
I think it honestly might be better than Half Life 2, simply for the fact that there are no boring, drawn out vehicle sections.

how did randy get away with mogging valve so hard bros? opposing force is better than any of the other shit by a country mile

I love Half-Life 2, but I'll have to agree with you. That world is realist shit I've ever experienced. I was in City17. Those Combine cables leading to the vault felt huge and intimidating. You felt like a little ant against some incomprehensible force.

The problem is that this is pretty much the only VR game I want to play, it's just not worth it to get a headset for this one thing, even a cheapo one.
>>
>>741622439
Totally understandable, anon. It really is the one VR title I'd say is a non-negotiable play. If you only play one VR game, this it.

I'd find somebody that has one to borrow. Go rob someone that has one. I will say, though, there are a couple of VR games that are still quite enjoyable and worth having a headset for. Blades and Sorcery makes me feel like Neo in the Chateau scene in Matrix: Reloaded. Pavlov feels like Counter-Strike in VR.

VR shot itself in the foot by having so many platform exclusives. Not VR exclusives, I mean like how PSVR has Rescue Mission and the Facebook one has RE4 VR. It was a niche and they're pulling that shit? No wonder it died

I would image it also has to do with the lack of high-profile killer apps other than Alyx. I guess VRChat is popular but it's not really a video game. As a non-VRfag, the only VR games I even know are Alyx and Beat Saber. There's just no games that would sell the platform.
>>
>>741624543
While Alyx is good, I believe Valve needs more killer apps than a AAA single-player game to sustain VR development. They need a proper multiplayer game that can keep players for a long period of time.

CS2 ported to VR with crossplay with flatcucks is the obvious answer but I guess there's no will at the studio to do that.

Half-Life 2 VR is even better in some ways. I still haven't even finished it though because it's so stressful and I die a lot. On the bright side, playing VR every now and then over a long period of time has completely eliminated my motion sickness. I used to run around in HL2 VR and feel actually sick, but now I'm shooting down gunships in Nova Prospekt without a problem (after dying 17 times).
HLA is a great VR game too though. The restricted, slow pace nature of it made the experience feel curated, refined and cinematic. Meanwhile in HL2 I'm charging at groups of Combine soldiers and I clench my teeth as I pump the SPAS 12 and shoot them in the head. Most of the time I just empty all my weapons and suddenly forget how to reload and escape with 8 HP though.

HL:A continues to one of two reasons to buy a VR headset.
The other one is porn

No more HLX leaks too I guess now that Valve has figured out the variable leak.

that aesthetic looks fucking mint, they got the buildings, lightning and colour palette just right.
