Why aren't Zeldas enemies nearly as iconic or memorable as Marios?
Until BoTW evened things out Mario utterly mogged Zelda in terms of real popularity, Zelda was a B-List franchise for most of its existence. The reception, quality, and fact that journos are too prideful & butthurt to call bing bing wahoo GOTY may have made you think otherwise but it isn't the case.
>>741627224It still is, Donkey Kong is more popular with normies
>>741627018Lack of spinoffs in which they're playable
>>741627018Mario is the most marketable thing Nintendo has that isn't Pokemon, nothing is competing with that.
>>741627018zelda has always had way cooler art than in game graphics. the games usually look pretty shitty and bland. the graphics in mario often look fun more and the enemy designs do too
>>741627018zelda's enemies/species are less recognizable from being drastically redesigned in each iteration. In contrast, mario has consistently faithful designs that remain recognizable.
>>741627637Prior to BOTW, DK and Zelda had sales that were on par with each other, Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2 even outsold A Link to the Past. DK64 also outsold OOT in America and was the best selling US game in 1999. Never under estimate Kong
>>741627018I still think they should have brought back ALL the Zelda 1 enemies for BotW.
>>741627018Disingenious image.>Uses the western art for Zelda 1's enemies>Uses a modern image of Mario's enemies>Said image doesn't include the iconic Octorok which was in every Zelda title until Twilight Princess fucked up its perfect attendance award, another reason to hate that game
>>741627018Because they change the designs every game.
>>741628873I mean, Zeldas enemies designs keep changing. A Shy Guy from 2026 still looks like a Shy Guy 1996.
>>741629027Yet they're still recognizable enough that you know who they are.
>>741628873It's really funny to remember how unbelieveably hyped Twilight Princess was. It was on par with GTA 4 back in the day; that old South Park Wii episode was because Trey Parker wanted to play Twilight Princess in '06
