I think what doesn't help it (outside of overly chatty fairy) is that the beginning of the game is extremely slow and limiting until you get the fairy and it opens up, and that beginning part is what the demo focuses on. Now that I got the scythe and a few different magic spells, it's opened up to be a pretty fun game. Shame /v/ seems like they are determined to shit on this because... well it's just something to shit on?

Does anyone know got to beat the reaper guys? The game says Faie might help beat them but I don't know what it is I'm supposed to be doing, I can't block their attacks much and I get attacked everytime I try to attack them too much. What am I supposed to be doing with Faie?

There, it's kind of unique and mythical sounding fantasy story name. At the very most, you'd have some oldfags remembering "le melinium girl" from Etrian Odyssey, and then have "Adventures of Elliot" as the subtitle. The first Octopath Traveler succeeded in spite of the title not because of it, and so they got it in their head that bad names are a good thing. Thing is I enjoy these games, but this needs to change.
>>741634350I haven't had any particular issue with them. They're functionally just normal enemies. The goddamn kung-fu chickens and their five-hit combo give me just as much trouble. I don't think there's any trick to it, just fight them normally. It does become easier when you unlock the perfect guard if you don't have that yet.
I know like 99% of normalfags out there want to compare this to Zelda, and sure that's fair to an extent. But after getting the scythe, it's pretty damn obvious this is really an homage to Final Fantasy Adventure/SD1. The funny thing is, I actually have enjoyed this so far more than I did Secret of Mana on my last playthrough (outside of the music that is--Secret of Mana has fantastic sound track while AoE is just okay).
