Can a game be on paper popular but spiritually it’s basically dead?
>>
should have just stuck with counterstrike 1
>>
Counter strike players have no soul they just play it to for a small dopamine hit. Just mindless drones who think throwing smoke grenades autisticly is chess it’s quite possibly the most overrated fps ever made
>>
It's only shit because of the community.

Technically CSGO/2 are closer to 1.6 than you think

>Hostage is a dead mode
>Esports runs the show
>Standing/moving accuracy has same mechanics
>anything fun is changed or frowned upon

/v/ prefers source which is the more casual fun CS that the IRC esport troons hated. Esports gained more power and its why GO/2 became what they are

>Can a game be on paper popular but spiritually it’s basically dead?
thats every game today.
>>
I do question that outside of every valve game which typically gains a /v/ cult around it like TF2, Half Life, left 4 dead it’s that counter strike never really had a *home* here you know? Countless tf2 game nights but rarely any counter strike if ever
>>
>>741632215
I lowkey used to treat CS like an actual tactical shooter back in the day or play on all the larp maps like 747 or crack house
>>

>be on paper popular
what?

Fucking skins and crates turned it to shit.
>>
>>741632562
It’s the most popular game in the world
>>
>>741632423
Because TF2 was actually fun, source had great community servers though.

Valve is currently scrambling to avoid lawsuits over it. The crazy part is honestly the actual loot boxes aren’t the issue it’s the 3rd party trading and money laundering.

I do think valve has an utterly evil system that’s not mentioned more. Most people say loot boxes bad but no one ever explains the true evil behind this like the wear/float system or how even specific skins have specific RNG patterns
>>
>>741632872
You know it’s crazy that if valve just made a gacha pity and was fully upfront with drop rates this wouldn’t be happening

>yfw valve tried to implement the wear system to tf2 and failed so they gave up entirely

Yeah source had tons of great servers and game modes. Idk what CS2 has, I never liked it. Small teams are not what I play counter strike for.
I spent a lot of time in the Warcraft3 servers and Roundbased Gungame servers (way better than the TDM version).
>>
>>741632872
I thought it was just gambling? What’s the wear system?

An actual diabolical evil system that even the most evil Korean gachas given up on.

It’s already hard enough to get a rare drop but imagine it’s a Japanese gacha game and you get the SSR anime waifu only you are then subjected to another form of RNG where she’s either nice looking or has downes syndrome oh and sometimes her color scheme is randomized too
>>
>>741633040
It’s okay when valve does it
>>
>>741632872
>>741633206
Valve knew about it and should accept the consequence of their act in making such a kiked gambling system
>>
>>741632872
>>741633206
They had YEARS to change this bullshit but it was too lucrative. Now they are trying to avoid a full market crash
>>
>>741633206
>slavs get trapped in another shit skinnerbox

why would I care lol
>>
>>741631847
Absolutely. 2 killed this game permanently, but the weapon skins and gambling surrounding it were already doing that for a decade with GO. Counter Strike exists only in name at this point. I used to play competitively and can't bring myself to touch 2 again.
>>
>>741634185
Because it’s gonna hurt valve badly
>>
>>741634245
GOtards are crazy. I've been playing CS since 0.6 beta and yeah launch CS2 was pretty fucking rough but it got fixed. The revisionist history of "CS:Source is good, actually" or "GO is the superior way to play CS" is laughable, they were both hated for years and looked down upon. The cycle of larping and ignorance continues.
>>
>>741633206
I find it kinda cool that you can get different type of wear of a skin if you want, but realistically yeah most people just want the cleanest skin as there are very few milsim larpers playing CS.
>>

As much as I love shitting on zoomers and their games as a millennial, millennials have their own arrogance and achilles heel.
>muh nostalgia
Absolutely positively will not stop buying sequels/prequels/remakes/remasters of old, dated gameplay because
>muh nostalgia
Look, Ocarina of Time, CS, Halo, MGS1-3 were great back in the day but not the gameplay is DATED AS SWISS CHEESE. Millennials are basically turning into stubborn boomers who refuse change no matter what because it's safe or whatever. You absolutely need quality of life changes injected into these older games. I haven't played a CS competitive game in ages because RS Siege took its gameplay and improved it in every possible way.
>>
>>741631847
CS and DotA are immensely popular, just not in the English speaking web
Remember that Chinese, Russians and SEAsians vastly outnumber English speakers on the web
>>
>>741634848
I mean did say the hardcore fans hate source but casuals love it
