The smartest thing they ever did was disable fast travel
>>
>>741637772
>I want to waste more time traveling
based retard
>>
>>741637772
that's true, though it was smart of them to give it to you as soon as you needed to backtrack.
>>
>>741637772
Conversely, the level design in the series took a hit once the developers realized they could just make everything a dead end that players would warp out of. Funny how the second half of DS1 gets criticized for that. I guess players just lowered their standards for the later entries.

>Puts literal level select after the tutorial
Funny how this one decision resulted in 100% of bloat being removed from the game.
>>
Literally no other souls game feels as much like a Journey as DS1 does because of fast travel. You're constantly portalling back and forth and it ruins the atmosphere.
>>
Perfect fast travel system was Morrowind's. Only available from certain well-advertised spots, costs a non-trivial amount of gold, only links to some other connected locations. Doesn't show you where the connected towns are on the map, so you have to learn where they are to make informed decisions about where to go.

thats because its the first one you played underage retard
>>
>>741640934
I was 19 when it released and I wholeheartedly agree with him
>>
>>741640934
Wrong, I bought the whole collection and played it all like two years ago. Never played it before.
>>
People talk about "wasting time travelling" but learning how to traverse the DS1 world as quickly as possible was actually fun in its own way.
>>
>>741637772
They didn't "disable fast travel", they just made it a thing you have to unlock instead of something that's available from the start.
>>
>>741640883
Agreed. And on that note, Morrowind lore makes Souls lore look like shit smears on the side of a bathroom stall.
Fromdrones have this weird tendency to heap praise upon trivial bullshit that Fromsoft games aren't even particuarly good at.
>>
>>741640934
What does that have to do with the factual statement that anon made? fucking idiot
>>
>>741640883
Very true. Wish more games would attempt something like it. Along with the journal system and no quest markers
>>
>muh genius world design
>look inside
>two elevators and a ladder
>>
>>741644382
TES Lore is boring drug trip nonsense for pseuds and faggots
Souls lore is classic mythological kino
>>
>>741640604
DS1 cant feel like an adventure if you're constantly backtracking. Adventures dont have backtracking.
>>
Who built those elevators everywhere? Like why is there an elevator from new londo too firelink, and then another to the parish? What about the one in darkroot to new londo? It makes no sense
>>
>>741644382
>>741645346
I like both
>>
>>741645346
Literally the opposite. Fromsoft lore is vague word salad from Japs who blindly regurgitate western fantasy aesthetics with zero substance behind any of it.
TES lore also isn't afraid to be mysterious but the foundation of it is well-thought out, incorporating the developers' understanding of real-life history and comparative religion.

>>741637772
top tier metroidvania.
>>
>>741637772
>>741637772
I agree. It destroyed any and all enjoyment from actually trying to care about the npcs and their quests, but they're shit anyway so it's not a big loss
>>
>>741637772
Gamers would bitch like whiny little shits. You can't win with them. They do not care about soulful games they only care for dopamine hits and convenience.
>>
>>741637772
>muh fast travel bad

You have been wrong for over 20 years and I appreciate you're going for a world record for longest spent time being a wrong dumbass retard.
>>
>>741641116
Old ass motherfucker
>>
>>741637772
how would you do demon's souls without fast travel? running all the way from the nexus to old monk would suck balls
also demon's souls is the better game because it's focused and doesn't waste your time it's just a level select and there you go, beat the whole thing in one go or get fucked noob and lose half your health
>>
>>741640419
But when DS3 streamlines it's level design so there is no filler its le bad or something
>>
>>741637989
Yeah, that made lots of sense. DS1 is the best. Bloodborne kind of comes close but not so much
>>
>>741648831
Dark Souls 1 is legit just Greek mythology. From the ntro cutscenes showing you the Gigantomachy to the Golden Age of the Gods fading away into a darker one.
It's with Dark Souls 2 and after that it became a bunch of fanfic.
Reminder that world cycles and reincarnation Eastern religion cringe wasn't part of Dark Souls 1 and was added to the story to justify more games after the fact. Arguably Dark Souls 2 biggest sins, but posers won't admit it.
>>
>>741653076
That's because Demon's is awesome nad DS3 is shit. Hope this helps.
>>
>>741653076
DS3 has mostly shit levels and zero sauce
>>
>>741652903
>how would you do [game designed with fast travel in mind] without fast travel?
i don't know, you tell me. maybe try redesigning it with more looping back bits, and then part way through when the journey takes you out so far that reasonable loop backs don't work you unlock fast travel or something
