Nice try, faggot, I may make a measley six figures a year and I can afford this, but I'll not be buying it because I'm not a fucktard niggerbrained monkey that wastes resources. I know the actual value of fiat and this ain't it, chief. I have my rig and it cost a hell of a lot less than this half-ass PC console. People who have PCs already don't need it and people that do not have a PC are better off buying a fucking pre boxed PC over this turd. Fuck you, baiting kike.

I can’t believe /ourguy/ fucked us over so fucking hard

Valve were positioned to destroy and kill Snoy and Xbox once and for all, and sit comfortably alongside Nintendo as the King and Queen of gaming, the only two left standing

but nooooo, Flumpft just had to go all fucking in on AI and a stupid fucking two week special operation to open the strait…

I know the price is cataclysmic but people are leaving out the form factor. This is a computer you can throw in a carry-on or heft with one hand. That does have niche value. What's the most equivalent value laptop you could get?

I know you can just build a rig for a better price/performance ratio but even if you go with a Micro ITX you're going to struggle to match this thing's size. I just don't think the size is near enough of a selling point though.

It's a combination of "fuck it, we already have a bunch of the components" + the possibility of AI-related components not coming down in price for another 4-5 years, so if they waited out those 4-5 years then all the other components might be outdated.
>>
>>741639680

>>
On one side it's too much compared to things from a few years ago, on the other I understand because prices have gotten so big they probably did not have any choices. They must really have being caught off guard.
For modern games it probably will be restricted to medium graphics unless there's special version of games for it. for old games it's probably pretty good though.
>>
>>741646036
At what resolution is that? 1080p?
>>
>>741639680
This is not for the PC enthusiast, who already has a high powered PC at home.

This is for people who want a third option against PS and Xbox that also doubles as a PC. When you go to costco and see prebuilts for 1400, then the 1000 dollars looks very appealing. Still inflated but blame AI for that.
>>
>>741645907
>miles better
Yes!
>and cheaper
No! Holy fuck dude if you can even find a 9070xt they're going for 700-800 dollars currently. You're going to be spending a minimum of 1500 dollars if you're doing a 9070 build and don't want to bottleneck it immediately. DDR4 doesn't even save you very much over biting the bullet and going with DDR5 now. And you should NOT be buying the el cheapo 9070's btw.
>>
>>741646021
That was probably what they were planning on, but currently no one is selling at market price and valve stated in their newsletter they legit could not source some parts because companies were not selling them at ANY price because they'd already had 2-3 years of stocks bought out at 3x valuation by AI companies.

You are blaming Valve because Elon Musk and Peter Thiel fucked the world electronics market.

That's a very good price, but still comes out to 570 USD which is more than half the price of a Steamdeck even still and you're tacking on a 400 dollar CPU and 200 dollar Mobo before you even touch RAM and memory to actually make use of your card, then the memory and RAM combined is going to cost you at least 600 there if you want to meat or beat the 1300 2TB steamdeck. 1400 Euros is 1600 USD. You must be getting much better prices than the US to be able to make it out with 1400 Euros/1600 USD. My PC I bought before the price hike was 1800 USD before taxes and only because I got a combo deal from Microcenter. Trying to buy now would raise this well over 2k USD/1.7k Euro

I wonder how the next generation of consoles will be. the current is probably safe enough due to many units already being built. but the next ones is going to get fucked like that too.
We might enter an era where buying ANY hardware will be more expensive than ever. All due to a few companies (who probably will then try to sell false solutions to a problem THEY made).

My guess is Valve was hit with a cost sunk fallacy situation once prices for everything started exploding. Unironically China will save us. Their government is hyper obsessed with keeping prices relatively stable and affordable and Chinese GPUs and RAM and memory will come out in the next 3-5 years on par with Western stuff.

And then the West will probably try to ban them to protect their monopolies like they did with Chinese EVs lol

>>741647083
Those are current updated prices as seen on pcpartpicker, not what I paid. The liquid cooler actually went down in price and the case went up. PSU stayed about the same. I just never updated da-list but with taxes n shit it came out to about 1800 anyways.

And that's an absurdly good deal for a 9800x3d so I'm not even certain what you're complaining about. I got it for $100 cheaper than what it was going for at the time buying a Microcenter bundle that also discounted the MOBO about 50 bucks too.

"old" as in anything that isn't AAA slop garbage. You can play RE4 remastered at 1080p/60fps which is FINE. Good even. And it'll run anything before 2016 easy. Just like the Deck, it's a way to ease normalfags into PC games, for better or worse. Maybe also for dudes who want a lazy "console-like" game experience on their couches, I guess.

The RAMpocalypse makes it look worse than it is, but it's not THAT bad of a deal so long as the quality control is good and there's no surprises like thermal issues or whatever.
I think most people forget that computer shit is expensive these days, even SD cards can easily run $200 alone (T^T)
I was looking around for mini PCs to possibly buy for a family member, and the ones that used to cost $100 are now up in like $300-400 and that's AFTER they gut out half the RAM.
Even basic-ass Chromebooks are often teasing $400 for some reason (though that happened long before AI, because ???)

Really the only way to compete in price is either to build one yourself or buy a prebuilt from a chink-tier company.
Emphasis on the build "yourself" part, since I've seen normalfags spend half the cost of the PC just to have a system pre-assembled without even blinking.

Obviously though, I'm not buying one and never will unless my current PC suddenly shits the bed and I decide I'm too lazy to build a new one.

>>741648898
It probably would've cost $600 (for the base model) 8 months ago, nigga.
BRB, buying an $80 Gamecube, and Pokemon Ultra Moon for $40.
>>
>>741653928
just wait until current non-AI contracts expire if no one does anything to regulate the supply.
Thats where the actual economical collapse will happen once shit like medical equipment or CNC machines becomes impossible to make.

It's already collapsed if you don't have "AI" in your name. We're living in worse times than the Great Depression and are only shielded from it being acknowledged because of Government -> corporation -> government money laundering.

Arguably, this is how most civilization has been since the dawn of time, so we may just be returning to the norm of everyone who isn't in the royal court of about 100 living like the starving slaves they are.

They can't sell it below its price point, because it's not a console. It's a Steam OS PC. If it dips below its own value the Chinese will just buy them all and turn them into work servers for AI without buying a single Steam game.

I'm not saying I know who the damn thing is for, but they're kind of fucked with the RAM prices and what their product actually is. I would say sell it at a loss to real humans with Steam accounts older than a year (like a level 9+ Steam account) at a loss. People who actually play their fucking games.

Or sell it to brand new accounts and throw in like $200 steam store credit so they can get some games if they don't have them already. I really don't know what the answer is to this mess.
>>
>>741652183
there was a fairly large and specific demographic of gamers that have seen hardware failures and computer parts wear down over the last year or so who decided to hold off for this thing cuz it was promised to be affordable and they only play games made before 2016 anyway, if your computer is in good condition and built since 2020 you most likely have no idea how fucked the market is, and the market being so fucked is why a lot of people were holding out hope and ergo are now so upset

>I’ve started turning my PC off when I go to work
I only left it on when I wanted to take advantage of an exploit to farm xp afk, in a game like fortnite, or when I wanted to leave something downloading overnight or seeding
For a while now, I’ve stopped liking the idea of making my pc work for things like that, especially with fiberoptic internet, they practically give it away for free to the point where they leave the leftover rolls of cable lying in the street because it’s not worth it for them to keep that excess
What I do still do is seed while my pc is on, and what I’ve never stopped doing is turning off my pc at night
I don’t know what kind of people like to wear out the lifespan of their main PCs, which aren’t servers or secondary machines, by leaving them on overnight, not to mention the electricity costs.

I forgot to mention that the fortnite thing was something I used to do when I was working, rather than doing it at night while I was sleeping

Maybe in another two years, or when the new generation of consoles is just getting started
PS5 and Xbox Series have been around for 6 years, so that will likely happen soon

Didn't realize the EUR/USD exchange rate was so volatile that it changed between them writing the prices

Probably 2032 at the earliest if you want more "normal" prices and when your computer will finally feel the crunch.

Why does valve cope by saying its prebuilt prices but you can get a prebuilt right now for cheaper and 3-4x more powerful, load it up with the official steamOS image and use it exactly like their console?

Are they REALLY trying to make me believe that form factor is worth $800+ dollars?

Even top of the line 9800X3D+9070XT PC's regularly go on sale for $1800.
