WHY YOU MOORS
>>
Been a while since I played the OG Gothic but can you not dodge animal attacks by backstepping like you do in the 2nd game? I remember not taking any damage from snappers by back stepping during their attack animation, swinging a few hits and repeat.
>>
>>741642103
yeah, that was 2 thing, in 1 you still get hit
>>
>>741641739
you know why they call him mud right?
>>
>>741642179
damn, what do i do then? holding right click and going sideways?
>>
>>741641448
>ironman

>hard
I thought Gothic 2 didn't had difficulty settings, no?
>>
>>741642310
honestly I can't remember, get more agressive so you stun them? I think that worked for me. Or dodge back and hope their attack won't reach
>>
>>741642029
Spaniard here, please understand that the sort of jokes you anglo speakers have already gotten tired of only become popular in Spain with several years of delay because fucking nobody here speaks english.

>>

I just installed the first game yesterday and it does. On Steam you can switch the game version to the Workshop version, install Union patch via workshop and voila.
I also installed GD3D11 via workshop for better visuals.

They're dragons by name but they're essentially demons of beliar. They should run more freely with the idea rather than the usual DnD flying lizard crap.
>>
>>741644189
Would be fun if the battles had more sequences and were unique to each boss. Like Sleeper in the remake.
>>
>>741644836
What does it do? I only played the Gold version a few times via SystemKit & PlayerBack only.
>>
>>741644843
That makes sense. They can also just skip the whole "talk to the dragons" bullshit since it added nothing to the game.

>>741644956
A bunch of small things, basically it keeps things as close to the og as possible but adds a bunch of polish and QoL things. For example if wanna play mage Mana no longer needs exponentially more LP to acquire.

How much faster is Master archery? I'm not sure if I should grab that or 20 more Dex. I can't find any good bows tho.

Whoever said during the weekend thread that Longsword from underwater cave near the Skeleton mage caves and shipwrecks is no longer there in 1.0.7 was full of shit.
It's still there and there's a chest you don't need to pick with steel bar, ruby gold and some nuggets too.
>>
>>741644189
The issue is that they're lame to fight.
The other issues they have are tied to the retcons making Beliar a boring evil god and all which comes with it.
>>
>>741645885
It's for new games, loot gets loaded when you create games, that's why I could loot Gomez chest on chapter 3 yesterday.
>>
got Uriziel and now exploring the map doing whatever quests i have left
can anybody tell me about some missions that i should know about? because running around the whole map talking to every single NPC could be quite time consuming
already killed everyone in the Old Camp (except Thorus, he's alright in my book) and im heading to old Xardas' tower to get items, but what more can i do on this playthrough?
>>
>>741644354
The GOG version comes with Union already installed.
If you want DX11 it requires an extra step but that's completely optional.
>>
>>741644189
keep dragons but just improve the boss fights in general
make it more souls-like or whatever, you know what i mean. dragons were bad because fights were fucking awful, if they make fights interesting then dragons won't be a issue

I downloaded some Union patch or something but I didn't work, IDK if it's for my version or whatever. Put me off from trying it. Same shit with Deus Ex and the fucking text / UI scaling. Garbage. He sounds like a bored accountant. They put a filter over his voice with the last patch but he's still a bored accountant demon. The German dub is really low quality in a lot of places. The hero constantly sounds like he's yelling but can't actually raise his voice because it'd wake up his parents. A lot of the sillier and over the top lines got rewritten to be more down to earth, but a lot of the iconic humor died with that. It wasn't until the sleeper temple where the hero has a really wacky talk with a crazy templar that he made me laugh.

It's not a problem of age but of direction and writing.

>>
>>741651924
In the german version it's less that he got old and more that he has no idea what he is doing. He was also winging it 20 years ago but this time somebody tried to teach him something about voice acting and it made him worse.

you can brew permanent stat potions later down the line, so it's not a total waste. mana potions also don't need super rare stuff. I managed to craft like 50 of them in my mage run

Alchemy is worth it, you can save a fortune on making potions instead of buying them like a plebe. Also you later learn to make stat increase potions too.

Well, it takes place in the Swords & Sandals universe, hence the name, but I have no idea what that is. You play as Romulus, the sole survivor of his village, who sets out on a quest for revenge against King Rezenhart. The mod is up to 20 hours long and features side quests, multiple arenas, plenty of new items, an original soundtrack, and new worlds. You basically start out as a piss-poor meat shield, but fight your way up through the arena, gaining more and more prestige and facing harder battles. Haven't played it myself tho only watched a review

iirc the D3D11 mod works a lot better with II than I
combat has no rolls and attacking requires you to stop for a moment so it migh feel limited after the remake but it's very similar still

your faction matters more in II so a second playthrough is more justiifed
hence i recommend that you play vanilla first

the rideable scavenger in particular has a bad habit of running right over to munch on a wild animal you just killed. even when youre busy trying to kill a bunch of others that were with it. and then getting hit by a wide attack from something

itll even run over to cannibalistically munch on other scavengers lol

It's one of the few games I can play in German without dying from cringe.
Dialogues are down to earth and not as stuck up as they are in most other games, especially translations.
I heard the voice acting is one of the main reasons it's so popular in Poland too.
It's just nice to play a game in your native language and it doesn't sound as if it was written by a teenager trying to impress his middleschool teacher.
Concerning mods I guess it's not as easily moddable as TES with its creation kits, but there are several full conversion mods that have as much content as a full RPG so there is potential.

A number of bugs related to npc pathing and dialogue triggers that just sent me over the edge. A random example is at the big ore pile convincing saturas that i'm legit and no need for violmce. Dialogue plays out that he agrees, I get the cutscene where I supercharge the sword and when gameplay resumes milten starts a convo but saturas aggros causing milten to break and fight him but i'm stuck immobile. I reload, do the same thing again and then saturas throws lighting at me mid teleport so that glitches out leaving me softlocked and needing to reload AGAIN.

Or cor kalom getting stuck in the temple whatever you have to escort him through earlier on. I just kept hitting these bugs. I apparently got locked out of one quest because a skellie mage is meant to drop a book which causes the mission to start but nope, that never happened. By the time I saw the sleeper off I had had enough.

redpill me on Gothic 3.
I've played the trilogy many times (G1/G2 NOTR/Archolos) a couple times along with the new remake, but I've never even bothered to install G3 let alone look into it being shitposted into oblivion everywhere.
Does it actually suck, or does it just suck next to G1/G2? Is it functional? A lot of cut content? Why does it suck exactly?
>>
>>741683421
Music and world exploration are praised but everything else, the factions, the character models, the story etc are trash. You might have the tism for it but chances are you will not enjoy G3.
>>
>>741681647
What I found more curious is why he bothers to jump through the extra hoops, since permadeath isn't actually permadeath. You're allowed to load your last save if you die, it's actually just ironman mode. The primary effect is you can't reload after your plan fails and an NPC takes 80% of your belongings, that's about it.
>>
>>741683361
If you really deliver the water he's gonna making you his bitchboy to deliver water. The only way to finish the quest is to beat his ass. Also fighting human enemy is easy, if you warry about dodge then just keep your guard up. Enemy AI usually winded up after 2 attack and that's your chance to strike after blocking their strike
>>

>since permadeath isn't actually permadeath. You're allowed to load your last save if you die,
Not anymore.
It works like intended after patch 1.0.7.
Your save don't get deleted but your profile frame gets a little skull picture on top when your character dies and you can't continue anymore.

>>741684686
G2NotR is very manageable if you like cheese. Aside of bullshit dragons that cannot be killed in any other way than spawning a demon with demon scroll (demon is generally more powerful than a dragon, kek), I'd say the general balance around ordinary areas is pretty well done, and in Jharkendar it's pretty much spot-on. If you know gothic combat, give it another shot someday and just buy a bunch of random scrolls for tricky situations, it's really better than you'd initially think. Also, go to Jharkendar as soon as possible, overall game difficulty got cranked up because this area develops your character at insane pace and can be played through with a very weak/early character.

if you still hate it, it's fine, but I really think it's worth to be a bit maso so you can enjoy G2 with the addon. Game feels kinda dry without it.
>>
>>741685283

Because most is just small stuff. For example if you become a mage and then give Constantino his shrooms for every 50 shrooms you get 5 mana as well as the money. So instead of eating shrooms like a retard for 20 min to get more mana you give them away in one or three swoops with some cash too.

Apparently the mod adds companions lol, I wouldn't call that small, adds a "guildless route" (it probably just means you can get away with not picking a side for longer)

I know what you mean. In my current playthrough I might just say fuck it, drink and eat it all and then use Marvin to give me what I need without extra grind.

Also Nostalgia mod now offers an option to respawn the monsters on the map, so I don't even need Marvin anymore. Forgot to mention too how useful companions are for mage runs.

there are few strategic points where it's better to use boosts early. I usually do shrines to get 60->70 so I can equip that 70str 80 damage 6 skill sword early

Just use "any LP" mod or whatever it's called for G2, and set leveling up to reward 20 LPs. That actually solves all the pacing issues and you don't need to hoard. You could even ignore the breakpoints (going to 39 and training 5pts to skip incremented costs a bit).
I have no idea why they felt it was necessary to ramp up the costs. The player gets map clearing ability via armor, not necessarily LPs.
>>741686331
That's actually when the game is at it's peak, when it's almost impossible but tempting due to fast gains. Notice in the remake the world loses it's sense of danger in Ch3 when you unlock better armor, when it should realistically happen way later, around meeting Xardas.

To put it shortly Gothic 3 feels more like an offline mmo than a gothic game.
The world is open, it's big but there's barely anything interesting in it.
The towns aren't really connected, once you're done with starter town there's never really a reason to return and this is applicable to most locations they're self contained.
The quests is pure mmo tier, collect 10 plants kill 5 boars if I describe many quests you'd think they're from wow.
You know how all piranha byte games make you join one of three factions? None of that here, there's faction reputation but you can complete the game without joining anyone.
So what's good?
The magic is the best option for once, homing fireballs never stop being funny.
The music might be best in the series except for the combat music, you will hear the DUN DUN DUUUUUUUN wayyyyy too often but that's the one problem with it.
There's still plenty of exploring, gathering loot, number going up character progression feels good even if it's basic.
Liberating towns is pretty cool, the fights are much bigger scale you can fight like 50 enemies at the time.
tl;dr I still think g3 is fun even if clearly inferior to g1/g2. Anyone who's a gothic fan should at least give it a try.

>The player gets map clearing ability via armor
Not really true for dex or mages
>>
>>741685884
The game can expect fairness when it starts coming at my 1v1 instead of gang rushing me. Until then, you're gonna get kited to a ledge and plinked with my bow while having barely enough dex to even hit you. Get fucked.
>>
>>741683421
>redpill me on Gothic 3
I played it last week. it's a solid 0/10. community patch bumps it up to 3/10. it's just clearly unfinished and untested piece of shit.
>>
>>741691829
It's incredibly true for dex, especially for vets. In fact it was even easier this time around since Scar's crossbow had a dex requirement instead of str, so to my surprise I was clearing the orc outskirts before even having the mine collapse.

Mages have a rough go, I've already fixed the magic with mods as the developers seem to have skipped playing the original as mages.

the biggest shame for western video game development is idtech not being licensable without chaining yourself to bethesda
>>
>>741683421
Most of it comes from some kneejerk reactions to performance issues and terrible combat (especially against beasts) but they also dropped some things that were kind of important for Gothic games:

>you don't start as a random hobo, you can kill orcs from the beginning (you can understand this narratively but still)
>factions work differently: they work on a reputation basis instead of hard adherence, it makes it feel more like an MMO
>>
>>741691810
I've got DUN DUN DUUUUN PTSD after beating Gothic 3. Strolling through the beautiful countryside listening to Vista Point and suddenly my ears are assaulted because a pig saw me through the bushes. Horrible.

Keeping the same protagonist and having rag-to-riches progressions are contradictory things.

>>741692148
Yeah but you don't magically unlearn everything you learned. Rune magic got fucked and your weapon skills are good enough from the get-go.

Risen is great when all of the community advice is to ignore the parry system and just tank hits with a shield because the combat animations do not line up with when damage is actually dealt.

It feels like the game isn't meant to be played on hard as melee. So much shit just tears you apart until you have an armor.
With melee only you basically can only fight scavengers and molerats until you get armor. Shit like the dam lurker is impossible because there is 3 groups of wolves aroun dhim

Risen 1 is good, feels like Gothic game. Risen 2 feels consolized and some don't like it being a pirate game, I fucking love it for that.
Risen 3 has some neat ideas but fails at execution, too little enemy variety, too large a world, meaningless exploration, being extremely easy etc.

Yeah, they ruined melee. It's very suspicious that there's always a rock nearby to climb and shoot enemies from. My guess is that the devs don't understand melee combat so they put hyper armor on every strong enemy, thinking that it'll please Dark Souls fans, while playtesting the game exlusively as archers.

My friend who's a notorious video game exploiter, realised that when you lead Baal Lukor to the orc graveyard he doesn't have any dialogue or interaction when you go off the intended path. He will just follow you anywhere and that's exactly what he did.
He also had that bug where Baal Lukor was immortal and he used him to clear out almost the entire colony.
Old Citadel, Xardas' Tower, Orc Territory, Snappers around the monastery, caves etc. There was no problems with pathfinding other than the Baal not being trained in rock climbing, but he had no problem with ledges you can jump and climb on. I think he even jumped off cliffs when he could find another way to follow downwards.

Followers aren't such an unrealistic idea.

Everyone promotes later, at the start of chapter 3 rather than halfway through chapter 2.
You can become a water mage at the same time you can become a fire mage so going OC isn't mandatory for mages anymore.
You can also learn some basic bitch magic without even joining a camp, and the firebolt is enough to carry you til you can become a proper mage.
>>
>>741696794
But Baal Lukor is not even that strong I don't get it, in my game he got knocked down thrice to the scouts in the cemetery.
>>
>>741697250
No it's fine, in the OG it didn't make sense to finally access magic at chapter three but then get spells that are designed for beasts that stopped being threatening 10 levels ago.
>>
>>741697897
In the OG you couldn't become a water mage until chapter 4 no matter whether you joined NC. This made NC effectively the only camp without custom rune magic.
In the remake it's symmetrical to fire mages, you can do it at chapter three.
>>
>>741698045
Can't comment on G1 magic system but the remake nerfed a lot of late game spells like Fire Rain into the fucking dirt and the whole stupid charging for every spell is just not fun.

Well I also don't like the lower dress part but love the overall design, colour and shoulder pads. Mages also make up for it by being able to kill everything in sight with a single spell.

I really like it. It has great exploration but the world is just too big for the gothic formula. It's kind of like a proto ubisoft world. Vista point <3

>>741704825
Yeah the whole mechanic about gating areas based on dangerous enemies becomes pretty hard when you have a whole continent to deal with.
Still want them to try.

how the hell do I make money/ore in this game, I finally got all the hunter skills but the mechants are too broke to trade for it and even if they had ore bulk trading is nerfed for some retarded reason, only posetive thing is that I finally got enough mana to kill a reasonable amount of enemies

you won't even make the money back before like chapter 4 lmao, trophies from early and midgame enemies are almost worthless
Enjoy selling wolfskin for 2 ore a piece
>>
>>741705868
Cycle through different vendors. It looks limited but even with this I've never lacked for money, and you start spending a lot of it when you get ugpradable armor.

Vendors restock ore after every chapter so remember to revisit them.

I don't like the new system too much but there are so many new items and monsters added in the remake that with the old economy, you'd get rich without trying in chapter 2.

You can unlock Cipher as a trader by selling him Isidros weed or the weed harvest for Calom. He pays 400 ore for the first, and 600 for the latter. This also unlocks him as a merchant and he has like 700 ore in chapter one. Easiest way to get filthy rich in chapter 1.

ye that and the sleeping nerf, to make the game "more relaistic", I sure enjoy staying up for 24 hours in order to get 8 regen hours of sleep, meanwhile my mage should have died of smoking and overating a long time ago, I am this close to just installing a mod
>>
Is there a point to blacksmithing? Don't you just get better weapons by exploring?

no. yes.

I installed it because of the bug and just never removed it. But fuck me does the animation take ages
>>

my game is not even bugged but it is just supid you go outside kill like 15 mobs do a sidequest, get back to your bed and you got like 3-4 regen sleeping hours

Can you still join the swamp camp if you sell Calom's weed?

Idk if going for mage was a mistake, it is not too bad but I assume melee and bow are just strickly more fun/better and not that gimped early by mana

If you challenge Kirgo to fight you in the arena you can just never draw your weapon and beat him up with your fist because he doesn't fight back until you have a weapon drawn

disregarding the specific opinions on the new lockpicking, what was wrong with old lockpicking?
>>
>>741708156
Early game is the most fun part of the game for mage, the later spells suck in damage compared to what bowfags and ungabungas can do in the same time and the spells aren't even fun to use.

>>741708276
On release that was true but since the last patch the moors changed it. Trust me I tested it my fucking self with Cor Angar.
And no, it's not mentioned in the patch notes.
>>
>>741708347
Nothing imo, it's a great and simple system where stats and memory are needed but you don't waste 5 minutes for trash rewards.

This year.
You're at a difficult crossroads. On the one hand, it's by far, hands down, the best Gothic game out. Even despite running on the 20 year old engine it has far more fleshed out systems and emergent gameplay without feeling clogged or amateurish.
The reason to hold off though is that patch is coming soon and it will add in a ton more. The campaign is some 60hrs long if you explore diligently. I dunno, play now if you're NEET and time doesn't matter.

At around 40 dex it will begin to function as an actual ranged weapon. The further you get to the cap you'll be able to nuke things down.
The main reason it's far weaker is you can't maneuver and backpedal, or even knock an arrow without standing still, so you'll get bumrushed. In practical terms you need to cheese enemies and shoot them from a ledge if you want to challenge yourself to a full ranged only run.
Ranged is stronger in G2, but the same core weakness of mobility remains.
>>
>>741708602
They might announce it already. Remember G1 remake was announced ages

You make money fast like it's done in real life, drugs, and cutting deals behind your employers back. Figure the rest out yourself, the game is at it's peak when you're starving for resources.

>>741707294
There's a mod to fix the animation speed as well. In the original you can go to bed, sleep, wake up and get moving in the time it takes in the remake to even land your ass on the mattress. Triggered my tism so hard this was the first thing I modded out.
>>
>>741708965
og bow is busted once you get a good amount of dex you will become an auto homing missile launcher that snipes everything

It's not worth it at all. Train all the way up to master, then use the mod to F6 solve everything and roleplay that this is the mastery in effect. The lockpicking eats like 15-20% gameplay time and that's just a mistake on the devs part, no matter what you say.
>>
>>741709194
I used one but it also increased or just skipping most pick up animation and that annoyed me more.
>>
>>741709295
>The lockpicking eats like 15-20% gameplay time and that's just a mistake on the devs part, no matter what you say.
Agreed. There's also a really low amount of chests that are opened with very specific keys. I think they'd benefit more from having that instead of putting some intricate lock on a simple shitshack door
>>
>>741709197
True, however requires preknowledge about where to acquire certain objects to or else the power ramp comes too late for it to really matter. However, that's true for melee as well I suppose. If you know how to get the Stonecrusher AND how to get enough str to equip it before even entering old camp, you can bust the game's cheeks
>>741709275
Time to tick on DLSS. Runs stable 60 with everything on "Gothic" just fine. Opening cage doors still stutters for some reason.
>>
>>741709314
Then do what any sane person does, read the description page and navigate to the config file to finetune it to your preference. Personally I made the sleeping nearly instant and using consumables roughly 3x the rate of vanilla, to match the classic version more closely.

>Runs stable 60 with everything on "Gothic" just fine. Opening cage doors still stutters for some reason.
DLSS balance.
Everything lowered to High
Only 50 fps with 85% GPU loading.
>>
>>741709684
DLSS performance. Enforcing FPS 60 cap through Nvidia control panel, UE5 can't handle this shit ever. V-sync on, screen refresh rate at 120fps. If that doesn't get you close, it's time to reinstall Windows and get rid off pornsite rootkits.

Lockpicking minigame is fine, median difficulty is just too tuned up, a random digger chest shouldn't have more than one lock, two if you want to keep the minigame.

>hurr durr but then it's trivial
Yeah nigger so is what he has inside, just make it mandatory to get LP training to be able to attempt it.

Only the absolute most important chests found in Gomez personal vault should have 5 to 6 locks.
>>
I enjoyed playing a mage with the mage balance mod, better robes mods and the mana regen mod
