>$1300 for the steam machine
>no controller included
>specs are worse than every single current gen console

but it's okay because its valve, right? pay up, piggy.
>>
>>741642475
it's okay because it's a PC and you're comparing it to consoles. :)
>>
>>741644754
even PCs are cheaper than this. steamies are brainwashed cattle.
>>
>>741644906
Post a compact and low power PC that is equal in power and cheaper or just as much but even more powerful. :)
>>
>>741644754
So let's compare it to PC and see how it goes
>>
>>741645207
go ahead anon. that's the comparison you should be making. :)
>>

Good goy, now buy the snoystation for the same price+subscription+games that cost twice as much.

okay so what ram and ssd are you getting?

>consoletards getting segregated and taxed is a bad thing
This thing is a buffer bankrolling my Deadlock and console players should have to pay this tax for ruining the medium. If you are dumb enough to spend +1000 on anything other than a rig that would annihilate this thing or a car payment, you deserve this shit, wholeheartedly. So yes, I am a mustard and applauding you being taxed an arm and a leg.
>>

>same price
PS5 Slim is 580 and has double the storage of a base steam machine

$80/year. Plus all the free games it comes with

Got some free AAA tiles with that subscription
So we're currently at 660.

That's not true, specs are better than Series S and Switch 2.
Though yeah, worse than base PS5 and Series X which are what it aims to compete with

for 1.4k youcan get a decent PC that can do 1080 60-120fps no problem

Similar CPU and power draw.
Better GPU.
More storage.
$50 cheaper.

The only thing the steam machine has going for it now is portability, but then why wouldn't you just get a deck or rog ally x instead?

Never mind I forgot I was replying to a snoy for a second. On second thought, that tracks.
>>
>>741646414
5060 is quite a bit better than a 3060, yes.

>>741646547
It's a standard tower case, Anon. Do you live in some liberal shithole shoe box that you have no room for a PC?
>>
>>741646358
you just posted evidence that the steam box is comparable to an equivalent prebuilt PC
i'm not seeing the problem here, i'm sorry. $50 is a rounding error at this price range, and the case is less than half the size as that one.
>>
>steamies are unironically defending this
LMFAOOOOO. it doesn't get better than this
>>
>>741646358

ok, it's also full-size.
that seems to be the trade-off. you just demonstrated that the steam machine is fairly priced.
>>
Looks like it's catering to the people who just are trusting valve on 'just works' and brand appeal. I'm curious to see how successful it is
>>
>>741646735
It's 50%~ more performant though. As I said, you are trading portability for power/price, which goes back to my original question: why not get a steam deck or rog ally x?

You should be comparing pre-builts to the Steam Machine because you can get better specs at that price if you build it by yourself.
And bear in mind the Steam Machine are using awful 2230 SSD and DDR5 Ram with cl46

Steam Machine GPU aims for 4060-equivalent performance, and that PC has a 5060. Lowest-end Steam Machine has 512GB storage, that PC has 1TB. It's theoretically worth several hundred more

Steam Decks keep selling out each time they're restocked, despite their obscene recent price hikes.
It will be a niche product that never sells in the volumes of consoles from the Big 3, but people will buy it.

>>741649407
There will be a Series S version of GTA 6 which is decently playable. It will be something like the Xbox One VCR version of RDR 2, soft looking but good enough that you rarely see anyone complain about its technical shortcomings.
Thus, it shouldn't be super demanding on PC. Steam Machine will handle it fine.
>>
>>741650308
>. Steam Machine will handle it fine.
>>
>>741650339
Yes, it will. There are already various games in the wild that are probably even more demanding than the PC version of GTA 6 will end up being, and they run fine on this thing.
>>
>>741650673
fine being 15fps ok
>>
>>741650718

>>
>>741650807
>40
>vrr
>2026
>>
>>741650308
The SS will probably run it at 900p 30hz with much less NPC density. The lighting will also be scaled back. And even that may be asking too much of the Switch 2.
>>
>>741650912
Have you tried a 40fps mode in a console game? It doesn't sound like much of a step up over 30 on paper, but it feels and plays remarkably better. In a sort of blind test where I was presented with a 40fps game and they told me it was 60, I'd probably believe them
>>
>>741650978
Possibly, but RDR 2 on base Xbox One shows they are remarkably good at scaling down to the weakest console and keeping all the same visual features intact. There was a huge power difference between One and One X back then, it turned out resolution was the only major difference between versions
>>
>>741648490
The market where a 4L case works but a 8L case wont doesn't exist. The Xbox Series X is 7L. Valve made it tiny for no fucking reason and priced themselves out of reality. All these 7500X3D machines with a 5060 or 9060XT 8GB are double the performance for the same cost but just bigger.
>>
>>741648847
Yeah they'll sell all 12 of them.

Judging by the fact that Valve keeps comparing the steam machine size to a banana I’d say it’s very much the reason if not even the MAIN selling point for it
>>
>>741647859
3060 not bad, I ran on one for 2 years. I got a 5070TI and I would never go back but when I didn't know any better it was perfectly fine.
>>
>>741650308
>Series S version
why are they still supporting that dogshit console, it's like supporting the ps3 when the ps5 is released
>>
>>741652189
It is about $300 conventionally overpriced but nobody takes into account that it is fucking tiny, Valve is just gonna produce however many units as there are people who want a PC the size of a pack of smokes and the world is gonna keep spinning.
>>
>>741652378
Helps Favela developers target Switch 1.
>>
>>741642475
If I ever decide to move countries, I'll probably buy it. Building a PC is a pain and a desktop is cumbersome.
>inb4 why not buy a Switch or Playstation
cuz my library of games isn't on those systems, duh
>>
what compels a "person" to get irrationally upset about a product that they were never going to buy costing more than they can afford?
>>
>>741652189
Yeah if anything the size was the only cool thing about it even before we knew the price would be kinda high
>>
>>741642475
it's not a console though, it's a pc. so it can and will do inherently more than just a console would.

if you're looking at it like a console, yeah it's not the greatest value. if you're looking at it like a dedicated emulation machine + pirate station, it's a great value.

aside from the fact that i already have a pc. which is more powerful than this already. so it's unnecessary for me, but for a new comer to the pc space, its not bad at all.

For me, it’s the Steam Machine. The best piece of living-room gaming hardware. I even ask for extra Steam Controller dongles and the staff at Valve is so friendly and more than willing to oblige.

One time I asked for a Steam Controller dongle and they gave me three. I said, "Wow, three for free!" and the nice friendly Valve hardware engineer laughed and said, "I'm going to call you 3-for-free!".

Now the SteamOS update screen greets me with "hey it’s 3-for-free!" and ALWAYS gives me three USB dongles per controller. It's such a fun and cool atmosphere at my local Big Picture Mode setup, I boot that machine at least 3 times a week for couch co-op and a large iced coffee with milk instead of cream, 1-2 times for breakfast-session Rocket League on the weekend, and maybe once for dinner when I'm in a rush but want a great gaming experience that is affordable, fast, and can match my daily entertainment needs.

I even dip my fries in the residual heat from the exhaust vent, it's delicious! What a great piece of hardware.

Not Switch 1, which is more like 360 or PS3 power. Completely obsolete now.
Series S parity rule helps multiplats scale down to Switch 2 and Steam Deck and similar handheld PCs, which are all still less powerful than it
