So are we all in agreement that this is both solidified camel piss and ALSO going sell out immediately because Valve has been super nice to goontroons?
>>
>>741648806
it will probably sell out

It's a terrible deal in every way, pic very related
I do think it will sell out regardless as consumers are idiots
>>
I'll buy it if I see it for under $700 on sale or secondhand. What I'm definitely buying are the Steam Frames; I want a new VR headset and this one looks good. If it costs no more than $700, I might buy it.
>>
>>741648806
Is it really going to sell?
>>
The only reason it will sell out is because valve can't produce that many. If they could produce millions of units like the other console makers most of these would rot on the shelves.
>>
>>741648992
And scalpers will find a way to bypass the security measures to get multiple machines and resell them at a profit
>>
ScalperGODS are gonna resell it for 3k KEK
>>
>>741649114
>comparing prebuild to custom
you are poisoning the anti steam machine campaign
please stop posting this
>>
They only made couple of thousands, of course it's gonna sell. Even if only people that want to cash out their CS inventory bought it, it would sell out lol
>>
The PC Master Race Movement cares more about compliance than actual features or performance. The only reason why PC came back from the dead in the 2010s was because you could build a “console killer” for $300. Now that that’s gone all that’s left is empty brand loyalty.
>>
>>741649513
You could get prebuilts for less if they actually spec'd prebuilts low enough.
>>
>>741649649
you're telling me the steam machine is offering a unique option that the market currently does not provide?
thats crazy
>>
>>741649682
What's unique about it?
The poor cooling design?
I guess if you REALLY need it to be that small, go for it. Otherwise, it's a terrible price/performance option.

maybe if they sell the 500GB version with no controller you can buy under 800 dollars

Can you play Songs of Syx on a console? Endless Legend 2? MGQ: P?
>>
>>741649979
>>ddr5
>why insist in this meme?
because in the pic they were making an equivalent (or better) prebuilt using the Machine's specs.
>>
>>741648806
Yes.
I don't know what the play is here if they were trying to get the console NIGGER CATTLE in the PC gaming ecosystem.
It costs too much for them and has problems with normies slob requiring kernel level anticheat.
I don't think AI upscaling is gonna be the magic they think it is for 4k either
>>
Judging by the parts to final pricing I'm going to assume it'll sell out because they at most commissioned like 10,000 of them. There's hardly any batch discount at all and that's generally how steam sells hardware.
>>
>>741649979
>maybe if they sell the 500GB version with no controller you can buy under 800 dollars
I can really wait; I have several PCs and it would be one more to have at home and put in the living room instead of a console, although the new anniversary Xbox they're releasing makes me want to buy it.
>>
>>741649856
see
>>741649649
>>
>>741650156
yeah especially since its using FSR

Switch 2 has the same deal where its relatively weak and relying on AI upscaling but DLSS is just a magnitude better than FSR and probably always will be.

>>

A fool and his money are soon parted.
>>
It really is the quintessential console for rich incels with shit taste in games. It was built from the ground up for fat autists who are addicted to porn.
>>
>>741650446
okay sure a low-spec "gaming" miniPC is unique. It ain't good, but it is fairly unique.
>>
>>741650580
so why the seething? it's a unique product that fills a niche that no one else is serving and it will sell out instantly.
>>
>>741649256
It will sell out just because it has a limited production and there are more steam fan boys willing to piss away a grand than units produced
>>
>>741650156
>>741650310
Yup, its just a bad deal all around.

Like, gaming laptops with nvidia gpus around Steam Machine's price range offer better performance at a base, have more built in support for optimization due to windows+nvidia, have access to dlss, and are also even more compact than a steam machine.

I like Valve but I don't get what the fuck they were thinking with this, there's literally not a single product point to the steam machine, its just e waste.
>>
>>741648806
It might sell well at release, because it's Valve, then it probably won't sell much at all. If GTA 6 isn't on it at release, because it's not technically a console, that's going to be rough.
>>
>>741650659
you could build your own SFF PC with similar spec for less money and far better performance. I genuinely don't understand who the Machine is for.
>>
I expected better CPU performance, at least a 7500F; it performs below a Ryzen 3700. I wanted more for proper PS3 emulation, although the base Steam Deck can handle PS3 games fairly well.
>>
I had considered buying one but only at the right price, which it never was. I didn't want to spend $700+ on something that didn't feel like a $700 product. I could probably get just as far with another PS5 Pro (before they spiked in price).
>>
>>741648806
It's going to sell out because people who are too stupid to use a PC want to play PC games.
>>
>>741648806
>Valve wants it in living rooms to target console users & casuals
>$1050 - $1400
>Controller sold separately and you have to go on a reserve list for the controller
>No Blu-Ray Drive
>PC Desktop UI
>Can't run AAA games from 6 years ago above 16 FPS

The only people who'll buy this are so deep in the Valve cult they already bought the controller lol.
>>
>>741653269

That’s what I’ve been asking. Does Valve expect this to outsell the Steam Deck? Surely that’s the ceiling right?

$200 over cost of parts doesn't seem outrageous for a pre-built, especially if you need to buy a new copy of windows.
>>
>>741650906
>SFF PC with similar spec
No, you cannot.
>>
>>741648806
it will sell out immediately because they probably have several dozen units
hell the journos probably have half of all global units
>>
>>741654071
Any product you use appeals to troons. It doesn't make it right but to paint this narrative that only troons use Valve or Steam products is disingenuous.
>>
>>741648806
It's shit and I will laugh at people buying it just like I did with the switch 2.
>>

you have $200 to spare and that's assuming you pay list price for everything.
It's absolutely doable if you swap the mobo, PSU, and case.

>>
>>741654284
Your example is not a SFF pc. It's a normal sized PC.
SFF has other considerations. You will spend more money trying to make a similar SFF pc than you'd spend on a pre-built modern sized PC.
>>
>>741654315
>>741654071
By posting the troons that are shown playing in Valve's advertisement. You're implying troons will sell the Steam Machine.
>>
Bad news is this thing is extremely overpriced for what it is and Valve will likely never try going into the hardware market again, good news is my 3060 desktop will get more mileage with games being optimized with the Steam Machine in mind. Except games using Unreal Engine, that engine is so far gone up it's own ass I've given up on any games using it.
>>
>>741648806
>solidified camel piss
personally i love the concept of a little cube HTPC running damn near inaudibly because the thing is 90% heatsink.
the price is beyond fucked though, not even considering buying one.
probably gonna DIY something similar. might be able to slap some better cooling onto a gaming laptop motherboard.
>>

Mocking the attempt from Valve to sell it by showing the two fags is not the same thing as claiming that only they use it. If anything my point is exactly that it's not something that attracts people to it.
>>
>>741649114
>I do think it will sell out regardless as consumers are idiots
It'll sell out because Valve has literally come out and said they were unable to get many units produced in the first place.
You simply cannot procure components in this economy.
>>
>>741654730
SteamOS is still being developed, it's not even available to the public outside of proprietary hardware right now.
>>
>>741654647
1. Why would anyone 'optimize' for something that overwhelming majority of people will not own?

2. Why do you think any optimizations would even affect you? There is more to just 'low settings are better' when you are dealing with varying hardware of a pc.

Those who would buy prebuilts will continue to do so. It coming from valve might make them consider it above others.
>>
>>741649114
>in everyway
this isn't an exact comparison because the diy pc is a micro-atx case and the steam machine is slightly larger than a gamecube
(34.1 liter volume vs 3.8 liter volume)
if you want a sff pc, it's a good deal
if you don't care about that, yeah it's a bad deal

>>
>>741653269
It comes with a controller if you choose, you idiot.
>>
>>741655690
There isn't one, but there are better options the question is what you want to sacrifice
You can get a better performance machine for the price but it will be higher wattage and a worse form factor
You can get a similar performance for the same form factor but hotter and questionable components
You can get a console and save some money assuming you don't play online but if you do you'll only save upfront
You can get a laptop but then you got to worry about battery life and heat
People are being weirdly zero sum. I don't give a shit about form factor and already have a PC so I'm never getting the steam machine but I don't get micro MTX at all.
There's a market for it that I don't get and I think steam machine is in the same niche. It's perfect for some people but only a handful. Which is probably all they're making what with the lack of batch pricing
