Do people seriously think a flat texture makes something look bigger? The hoops retards are jumping through to justify hating the Halo remaster are getting absurd.
>>741671971Kill yourself.
Nobody cares about this.
>>741672015I wish that were true however too many people are bitching that the original looks better than this.
idk where you heard that, but what's true is that the new one looks absolutely ridiculous
>>741671971Yes, it does, because it tricks perspective by making it unclear how far away the object is and therefore how big the features are. It's like looking at the moon, and the craters not looking as deep and the terrain not looking as jagged and rocky as it is actually is. If you add a lot of obvious depth to the features now it no longer looks like a massive structure tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands miles/kilometers away, but something small maybe a half mile away. It's not that the flat textures were necessarily intended to have that effect, more like it was a fortuitous coincidence no one considered at the time. But 343 doesn't have an excuse for not looking at their high res, overly detailed remake and not realizing, "You know, something does really look off."
>>741672186looks ugly
>>741671971The Earth looks like a flat texture when you're up in space. The appearance of flatness just masks how deceptively deep the surface actually is, as opposed to >>741672186 where you have absolutely no context for how big those protrusions are supposed to be.
>>741672186It does. And it looks smaller because you can clearly see a structural shape. At that scale that's retarded. It's like expecting steel bars the fucking size of everest to keep working at that scale
>>741671971The sense of scale of the new Halo ring is fucked because all that "detail" makes it look smaller. The "flat" texture you see makes the original one look more massive because that is how you see things from far away.
>>741671971>the hoops retards are jumping throughYou could even say the Halos retards are jumping through. Get it? Because giant hula hoop?
>>741672268>'s not that the flat textures were necessarily intended to have that effect, more like it was a fortuitous coincidence no one considered at the time. Are you forgetting how much CE used bump mapping?
>>741671971It's wild that the first thing game developers new with more powerful hardware is make shit look worse.
Old one is clearly inspired by the death star. It shows that 343 artists don't understand Halo on a fundamental level.
>>741671971The ring has the diameter of a planet. You should not be able to see all those details that UE5 jeets are putting on the new ring. It makes everything look small and it actually looks like a toy for children.
>>741672000Straight to the point.
>>741671971Remake retards will look at this and go "yeah this makes earth look really huge".
>>741672783>AI garbage
>>741672923Just like the Halo remake.
No matter how turned off of this shitty remake I am, every time I see something new it makes me hate it a tiny bit more. That's kind of impressive in its own way
>>741672186The original looked more like High Charity, I can imagine sentinel factories and other facilities lining all of it. The remaster and anniversary versions take away all of that potential and just give you flat surfaces that clearly have nothing going on, with the remaster making forerunner architecture beige for some reason.
>>741673056There are two of them at this point.
>>741672186That looks awful
>>741671971irl planets visually appear as simple spheres so...
>>741672186>No background planet to give you a good sense of scale>looks like a generic sci-fi donut ring
>>741671971>Do people seriously think a flat texture makes something look bigger?Yes
>>741672186That looks really bad.Like holy shit someone got paid to make this, and someone else got paid to look at it and say "looks good boss"Jesus christ.
>>741672186I'm not sure how to explain it but it reminds me of how the Starcraft remaster updated the Protoss. There's more detail, but less... feeling.
no need for a halo demaster
>>741672186>What if the covenant were protoss Looking ass fuckin halo
>>741672212Original gives a much more impressive sense of scale and engineering feat to build such a thing. All the little lights on the underside and dark spots which gives depth to this colossal structure and what it must be like to see it up close.Remake looks like a toy in comparison and far less interesting to look at.
Welp that's it I'm going to marathon
>>741673449I miss the hell out of broodwar, but ill never support nigzard or cuckvision again.
>>741672186the outside being so chunky is the only thing worseoriginal had a better sense of scale
>>741672186That looks like shit and does look small, looks like the inside of a car or robotics.Nothing gives a sense of vastness there.
the atmospheric effects look good, a reasonable addition to the original. the bottom probably had a good deal of thought put into it but the end result is exactly what most people didn't want to see, generic protos space magic.
I dont remember from where is this screenshot, but why didnt they use this as reference? looks 10 times better
>>741673986Thata from the first time they remade CE. Yes they have now remade CE twice and did it even worse the second time
>>741672186All sense of scale lost. Without seeing the actual ring that underside could be any forgettable sci-fi tech. Hell it kinda looks like a graphics card.
>>741674034the first one was a remaster since it was just a texture overlay that could be toggled off and on. This is a full out remake.
>>741671971>>741672186I'm gonna be honest, the only reason why it looks good is because your brain is filling up what the ring COULD look like. It's YOUR imagination doing the heavy lifting. As time goes on, and fidelity increases, you have to actually create what's there. An artist has to now choose
>>741674190No, you can still use the same techniques, small lights, deep cavernous holes in the structure that are just too far to see inside. The design they went with is very lazy and does not look huge.
>>741674190This is a cop-out for bad visual design. Bungie could have achieved a similar effect with bump mapping but they didn't because adding that level of detail ruins the scale of the mega structure.
>>741672015>>741672186I do mind, because it does take away from Halo's iconic art direction and it's replacement is completely forgettable, cookie cutter, cheap hollywood, straight to netflix stuff. It's comes off as "look what I can do" instead of "will this clash with the rest of the world's design, does it make sense in this universe", and that's goes for pretty much all of 343/HS's direction for everything. It prefer the og, it looks like an ancient abandoned ring, not a new transformers.New one looks like the usual generic futuristic noise you see in a cheap modern sci fi movie, old one looks like something straight out of OT era Lucasfilms.Halo has become unrecognizable, I think the only thing it has going for is MC's helmet shape and visor, everything else has been slowly chipped away and made unrecognizable. Only familiar chapes with foreign designs to this world.Honestly when you get to that point, why bother making it a halo game? just make a new product, that way you're not held back by these 'lesser' designs. What exactly is there to get excited about if you've replaced everything that made Halo, halo? the art direction, menus, the ring, the armor designs, the weapons design, core gameplay changes, etc. is gone, like a sports team replacing players with people from other teams, what exactly are you excited about? the name of your town on their shirts?
It looks retarded because those "bumps" are 4,000 miles thick.
>>741674606People talk about Halo 1 like it's a damn Kubrick movie and then you try it and it's a game about shooting star wars prequel reject aliens and bad vehicle segments
>>741674980>People talk about Halo 1 like it's a damn Kubrick movie and then you try it and it's a game about shooting star wars prequel reject aliens and bad vehicle segmentsAbsolute truthI liked back then but it was a generic setting for fun weapons as it could get
>>741674034Thats a Halo 2 cutscene
>>741674190and I'm going to be honest, the artist chose incorrectly
>>741672186Yes nigga because the underside of the fucking ring is something people will be looking at for most of the gameDo you niggas think fr?
>>741674980Halo CE is kino and all the vehicle segments are good.
>>741674980We get it, you're brown
>>741674190yeah i saw that post on x.com too
>>741671971The original looks better. This one looks better too: >>741673986This: >>741674723That being said, I don't care. I already decided I'm buying this shitty remake.
>>741675826>I already decided I'm buying this shitty remakeWhy?
>>741673284As always modern tech removes the artistry of illusion to the point the modern "artists" don't understand the basic concepts.
>>741674980You're exagerrating, people just appreciate the work.
>>741671971Yes. Its a megastructure so carving out giant architectural details and furnishes makes no sense. It would be if there was giant mcdonalds M going across all of manhattan.
>>741672186looks like a 3d printed cockring
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sR2296df-bc
>>741672186>RTX 9090
>>741673986I think it's the same but from a different angle, it could be a different one from Infinite or anniversary 2. Goes to show how generic it is that people can't tell what game or media it belongs to.It does looks better but it doens't look like Halo
>>741676943Pretty sure it's the blur cutscene from halo 2
>>741671971The flatness and the detail just makes the ringworld larger in scale.
>>741674980>People talk about star wars like it's a damn Kubrick movie and then you watch it and it's a movie about shooting flash gordon reject and bad action segments
>>741672186it looks something Gemini would make after being prompted for a sci-fi ring space station.
>>741676591i mean just look at how the new ring is covered in so much useless detail compared to the old one. it just looks garish and ugly
>>741671971Unironically yes. Megastructures hundreds of thousands of kilometers long and hundreds wide. At those kinds of scales, it's very difficult to discern the true distance or size of things. Planets have this sensation of looking small in photos or through a telescope because you can see the whole scope of it. Earth and Mars have giant mountains. Jupiter's cloud layers are hundreds, if not thousands, of kilometers difference in altitudes, but from orbit it all looks like a flat texture on the planet because the scale is so incomprehensibly huge. Being able to see any kind of specular details like that on a Halo ring are absolutely absurd and imply that those ridges are fucking enormous. The flat texture with lights on the original implies a lot of interior space to the ring with service areas and tunnels and control rooms.
>>741672186>no planetits shit
>>741672186Oh wow the original really does look better, I didn't know.
>>741672186that genuinely looks bad
>>741672186Never seen this before now. The original is better.
>>741671971>Do people seriously think a flat texture makes something look bigger? The OG Halo texture looks like the Death Star surface and has a planet as a backdrop. I don't know why people say a flat texture specifically from wherever you are from but it is completely different from the remaster look.
>>741672000FPBP trips of truth, kill yourself faggot OP. slither back to whatever tranny infested 343 worshipping reddit you came from.
>>741673449Classic protoss look ghoulish. This isn't brought up much because most people have a subconscious mental divide with fantasy creatures and spess creatures but the old CGI effects gives them creepy mottled grey skin and spooky glowing eyes like some creepypasta monster.
Ringworld was an obvious influence, and I suggest you read it if you want to understand what they were drawing from, initially.>>741672186Why is there now a thousand-mile-wide blue pipe across the bottom of an artificial Ringworld? It seems they just looked at it and went "hm, how can we make it more detailed?" without considering what kind of details would be appropriate. The forerunners in the 343 games seem to have designed buildings with the sole purpose of showing off polygon counts.
>>741672186this looks AI generated
>>741672186>>741671971>>741672212The weird thing is the nu-halo actually looks fine in the in game cut-scenes (pic), it's just the title screen where the scale looks off
>>741672186This individual beam of truss is about the size of New Zealand. The sense of scale is retarded here
>>741672186idk why i'm reminded of sauron's ring with this one. it's just not "halo"
>>741672186blizzard artstyle
>>741672186>>741671971stop defending microslopIt doesn't even make sense in their own lore to adapt the old games to the halo4 forerunner aesthetic when that kind of architecture was used by the Didact, who wasn't involved with the halo rings
>>741673284wonderful, lost art
>>741671971>>741672186Presented as-is, the pattern and size of the greeblies make Halo look much more smaller in the remake and they don't contribute to its design in any meaningful way other than just giant fucking lights that ruin the illusion. The exterior in the original looks like a giant grey Star Wars Death Star, frigate, or cityscape that runs continuously, giving the ring a more mysterious and monolith-like appearance, and there's only big circular macro-structures breaking up the design intermittently. The darker spots give implications of depth and/or dereliction.
>>741677352I get a really strange ceeling looking at this photo. Star Wars has been nothing more than a toy and licensed product franchise for almost half a century now. Yet seeing this photo full of things that multiple generations grew up to see as nothing more than franchising elements you vome to the realisation that at a certain moment in time these were all somebody's creative ideas. Someone sat down, decided to let their imagination run loose, and came up with visions of worlds and ships and creatures not of our reality. And this expression of vast creativity is a brief flash that quickly morphs into a century of copypasted brand logos and franchising rights divorced from any semblance of any human connection. I look at that photo and, objectively I am conscious of the fact that these are the creative output of a human being. But a whole lifetime of commercial conditioning has gotten me to a point where on a psychological level, try as I might, I am incapable of perceiving any of this as anything other than garbage or consumer industrial waste.
>>741671971>>741672186the most basic illusion to create a sense of size is to have something just be relatively much bigger than the other visible things around it.the detail elements of the original are smaller and therefore make the ring look bigger.also for something that is 10k km in diameter, such large details start to look corny.
>>741674980Stop stealing twitter posts
>>741685281>It is truly remarkable to consider the absurdity of an imaginary ring of a scale surpassing that of an entire planet, containing within it a metal rod of dimensions comparable to that of an entire country.
>>741677352notice how the deathstar looks exactly the same from the planet surface as it does from space
>>741674980People put more thought into the effects back then, deal with it. Even cheesy action flicks with something simple but innocuous like a digital cityscape was using a rale model city with glow in the dark tape carefully positioned to look like vector lines when panning the camera across it in the dark.
>>741683737>I suggest you read it if you want to understand what they were drawing from, initially.Meh it's pretty dry anon
>>741674190>errm achually what you're seeing is not dogshit it's an illusion in your brain yes I am very educated how could you tellI have reddit fatigue. Sometimes human instincts are correct, sometimes things seem like shit because they really are shit.
Don't objects that massive look smooth anyway because the size of the surface distortions are trivial at scale? You don't see lumpy planets.
>>741672186Looks like a video card
