Valve didn't subsidize Steam machine cause thats not how you build a healthy ecosystem
They don't have enough stock to make a price cut worthwhile
>>741672998the real reason
It's true. If you want people to adopt SteamOS you can't undercut the big PC manufacturers.
>>741673098like the ai trend his company has also followed?
>>741672998Valve is right. The Steam Machine needs to survive on its own merits. If it can't, it should die.
>>741673104No don't you see, Valve and Gabe don't keep winning because they are smart it's because they got lucky for 20 years in a row.
Only poorfags care about the price, real fans will still be buying it regardless
>>741673104>you can't undercut the big PC manufacturers. Why, and people won't adopt steamOS cause of the price anyways
>>741673098Not true, he bought a mansion recently for a price of 700 000 steam machines
>>741673098This but unironically.3 years from now, the Steam Machine is going to look like a steal because the pricing lag from current bottlenecks and disruptions will have caught up to other hardware.
>>741673098Lmao he's such a salty bitch
>>741673432It will look like deck - overpriced and outdated
>>741673098i love how pc gamers are all about the bantz until its anyone poking fun at steam, then the thin skin shreds
>>741673370SteamOS is literally free.
>>741673501It's really weird because he didn't stop buying up American land when his company had to fire half their workforce.
>>741673192We need to realize that video games generally take a back seat to advancements in AI. Gabe knows that just like Satya knows that. The data centers and infrastructure upgrades are generally going to be a net positive for much more than just AI and cost of components will start stabilizing and even dropping in about 2028 or so.Just be ready when Steam Machine 2 or "Steam Machine refresh" comes out at "just $700" in 2029 or 2030.
>>741673098could be worse, gaben could've funded lawsuits against a game that made his biggest product culturally irrelevant and spent millions just to lose lawsuits against apple and google
>>741673098>premium PCis this guy for real? the steam box is an entry level PC.
>>741673432It wasn't a steal at $700, it's e-waste from parts that would never sell even several years ago unless you were selling to retards.
>>741673558Then undercut these PC manufacturers since your OS is free regardless, there is no reason not to subsidize then
>>741673676He's an indian making a living on twitter, of course he has to spice up his posts.
Wait, it only has 16G RAM, BUT it's also single channel???
>>7416733701) Valve did an interview with that caveman pc youtuber and told him undercutting the price only works if you want a closed ecosystem, ie Steam Machines being cheaper would drive people even further away from desktops than they already are, which isn't what they want for PC gaming.2) Valve is getting fucked up the ass by the memory shortages thanks to AI companies (without explicitly naming the AI jew). They're not making a datacenter despite Gabe Newell previously donating/investing money into LLMs, and they're not even a publicly traded company to begin with, so the 5-6 dram manufacturers are giving them the same shitty daily rates that the rest of us have to deal with.3) Valve is being sued (again) for a supposed monopoly (again), this time by Netherlands who filed the suit immediately after the New York suit was settled. Showing up with a new computer product that's undercutting the rest of the market might give the claimants some legal ammunition.
>>741673098>Steam Machines were supposed to be affordable console alternatives, not premium PCsHoly fuck who is this delusional retard>Thinks $1400 buys a premium PC in this economylollmao even
>>741673783The literal only reason for valve to sell any steam machines at all is to set an example for those people you're suggesting they undercut.
I wonder where the Steamies who said Valve would subsidize the Steam Machine went...
>>741674248Nowhere since none of them said that. Console retards said that
well you're not building any ecosystem selling a pile of shit for 1.5k
>>741672998Why the fuck does it need to exist in the first place?
>>741673959>despite Gabe Newell previously donating/investing money into LLMsThe amount that he invested is basically a drop in the ocean considering how much cash openai acquired and is burning through right now>this time by Netherlands who filed the suit immediately after the New York suit was settledWhere did you see that it was settled? I couldn't find anything. Also all of these lawsuits against Valve all stand on the same shaky ground while being borderline lawfare, against a company that prints money, i dont even know what i'd say to these people, i thought jews were supposed to be smart or something.
>>741674440They already have a strong ecosystem desu.
>>741674440Steam has been an ecosystem for over a decade.
I wonder if Valve would consider licensing out their Steam machine design to other hardware manufacturers? Kind of like what 3DO did back in the day?
>>741672998Dead on fucking arrival. Anyway, who is going to try to make gaming hardware next?
>>741674480Because Valve is fucking retarded.
>>741674416>noooo the false flaggers said it!!!! Why lie tho
>>741673098>>741672998Cultists working overtime to defend Valve, people were furious at the Switch 2's original launch price.
>>741674480valve was hoping to make a competitively priced linux box to break out of windows' monopoly on PC gaymen but obviously the WEF won't let that happen
>>741674568wow i forgot how great steam's home console ecosystem was
>>741672998Yeah, it's also a regular PC so if they priced it under cost big corpos will buy them out, kinda like what happened with the PS3
>>741674480>>741674658Its just an excuse to get steamos out the door to test itLike people are being too autistic, look past the hardwareValve has always been a software company
>>741674701What are you talking about lol nobody thought this was going to be cheap other than poor people which are consolefagsThat's a fact>>741674757This. I don't get why this is so hard to understand. They see example after example of valve doing whatever they want and wining as they don't have shareholders yet somehow it's not sinking in
>>741674751Steam is a software store not a home console, turbo retard.
>>741672998Welcome ladies and gentlemen, to Xbox 2.0.
>>741672998What does that even mean?
>>741674757if you think the Steam Deck sold like shit (it did) it will look like a success to Steam Machine.
>>741675015>consistently sells out>sold like shitRetard alert
>>741674813>What are you talking about lol nobody thought this was going to be cheap other than poor people which are consolefagsWhy do you keep lying, console users said it would cost a lot and valve fans kept saying it would be cheaper like $600
>>741672998They wouldn't need to subsidize it if not for the AI bubble. Valve (and all b2c enterprise) is trivial in the scheme of things, and just happens to be on the wrong side of the great grift.
>>741675094>>consistently sells outYeah cause they barely produce any you twat
>>741674889So there is no ecosystem for Valve's console
>>741675094it sold out because they decided to pull it and hike the price by 300$, not because people bought it. Chinkhelds have better screens than the 'eck lmao
>>741675219Steam is the ecosystem. Devices that interface with steam are part of it.
>>741675219180+ MAU btwMore than any console platform
>>741673098
>>741675094I have been consistently right retard. I used to nickname the steam deck the "Stadia Deck" before it launched and that piece of shit hasn't even sold 5 million units.Steam Machine will sell worse than Dead Deck.Steam Frame will sell even worse than Steam machine. The 10.000 paid valve shills will make the Steam machine appear that its successful but Valve will be quiet about its sales.Valve is a piece of shit that will be eventually sold off to Microsoft.
>>741672998I imagine the meeting going likeGabe: Why the fuck would we subsidize it? Ship it.
>>741675292You mean like PCs? The ones you can get for the same price as the 1.5k gabecube that have 2-3x the performance?
they should have just scrapped it and blamed AI
>>741675205>>741675272>>741675392>It's came to me in a dream
>>741675439You make it sound like you just discovered some amazing profound information that nobody else has figured out yet.
>>741673616Infrastructure upgrades? Those upgrades are hogged by the AI use.
>>741675158>Why do you keep lying, console users said it would cost a lot and valve fans kept saying it would be cheaper like $600No, they didn't Since that not what PCs fucking cost you mong.
Valve is reliant on the Machine. Steam is still growing regardless of their hardware endeavors.
>>741673098Based Timothy
>>741675585>all those posts you saw were fake goyimWhat do you get from lying anon
I wish Valve would put a little more effort into Source Engine and getting it ready as an Unreal competitor. Tit for tat.
>>741676779>valve>effortYou should have learned by now
>>741673728I'm literally retarded tho
>>741673667>culturally irrelevanttroons are actually this delusional lmao
Just fuck my ecosystem up nigga.
>>741676619I'm not the one lying about how many decks Valve made or how they're going to be bought by Microjeet??? What do you gain from being intellectually dishonest?
>>741674756Valve reservation list makes it impossible for corporations to buy them
>>741677528Valve reservation list only exists because Valve is unable to meet demand even in the absence of corporations and governments buying the device.
>>741673501He's completely right though. GabeN can easily subsidize this like they did the steam deck to break into the market and make things affordable for gamers. But now Valve is more focused on pushing an image of wealth like Apple so they sell overpriced garbage to plebs.
>>741678047>GabeN can easily subsidize thisI doubt it, people here severely overestimate how much Valve is worth and how much that costs. It's especially bad because Valve has no idea what the machine will actually cost next month. I was watching one interview where a guy at Valve said you would talk to these memory companies, they'd offer you the chance to buy X units at Y price, and if you turned it down they'd just never talk to you again. And Y price is doubling.
>>741672998They don't have their own production place for the economy of scale to reduce production price unlike with other consoles.
>>741673098>$900 piss5>$800 xbaxWhen did this happened?
>>741677438You're lying people didn't say it would be subsidized abd blaming console users nimrod, archives exist and oeople memory exist
>>741672998I honestly thought the price would be worseI guessed around a grand about 3 months ago and I figured it'd only get worse how things are progressing
>>741673098>chadrat and timmy dabbing on /v/groids and steamies holy based
>>741678861Not him, but anyone with a rudimentary understanding of PC gaming would never ever claim steam hardware would be subsidized. That's literally insane and it makes no senseThat idea can only come from a market mindset that is unfamiliar with what Steam is, what a PC is and how valve makes money.
>>741678869The price for the machine is spooking me the fuck out because then what the hell is the ps6 gonna be at?
>>741679663Its going to be cheaper numbnuts, sony can take the hit unlike valve
>>741679663There won't be a PS6 until 2032 or later for that reason.
>>741679663At worst, it'll be $999 but more likely around $600-800. They're not going to hit quadruple digits. It'd be suicide for a whole console cycle.
>>741679786and so will the ps+ subscriberssony ain't taking shit
>>741679883Ps6 is slated for 2027, next yearThey already made the contracts for the supply and did all the RnD for the specific specs. They can't back out now and redo all the RnD and contracts
>>741680039Lol you forgot about AIGood luck console fag
>>741672998>cause thats not how you build a healthy ecosystemwhat the fuck do they mean? Steam already dominates the ecosystem, its been built already.People are complaining because Steam Machine 512gb (when every console cheaper is 1tb) for $1000+ is a rip off and rightfully so.Valve can't just say 'well yeah its a rip off, nothing we can do". They can do something but they don't care too.
>>741680003Ps5 pro is more powerful than steam machine and cheaper so they cant obviously take the hit dipshit
>>741673526>pc gamers>timmy tencentWhat?
>>741680039>Ps6 is slated for 2027, next yearYeah, that's not happening. You were slated to get a girlfriend in 2025 and look how that turned out.
Why don't we just build more RAM production factories?Or is that question antisemitic?
>>741673370The long term plan of Valve is to have PC manufactures like Asus/HP make steam boxes that can be sold at big box retailers. They won't even consider entering the market is Valve does loss leader hardware.
>>741680064Its going to be funny when ps6 is announced to be cheaper than steam machine
>>741680089glad we agree
>>741680171You understand that the Steam Machines already exist, and the PS doesn't, so now think about how far behind you are on hardware when it comes up and the hardware prices aren't going down. AI, remember?
>>741680169So their long term plan is the same for the original failed steam machines in 2014 lol
>>741679663We're all fucked anonYou can thank the AI shitheads for this one
>>741680279Yeah but it'll work this time because the software is better. Nobody was going to spend money on PCs that run bad linux ports. People will spend money on PCs that run windows games better than windows.
>>741680241Its funny you can't conceptualize subsidizing prices but then again steam never did for you so you can't, Sony lost $200 on every ps3 sold.
>>741679996>>741679786The ps5 pro is already like 700-850 bucksThe leaked ps6 specs runs circles around it I dont see a world where it can be anything but 1k minimum
>>741680160It takes a lot of time and money, and by the time they're stood up the demand might be gone.
>>741678476Valve subsidized the Steam Deck tho? Even now if you ignore the Rog Ally, it's still the best value handheld on the market.
>>741680394k, but they aren't going to lose $800
>>741673098Oooooof Gabecucks didn’t take well this one
>>741680379>but it'll work this timeNo it won't lol, PC market back then was cheaper and now PC marketshare is declining year over year cause of increasing prices. No one cares software is better they care about price
>>741680474Steam Deck sold millions of units and lots of PC manufactures jumped on afterward, it already worked.
>>741680413Yeah, but it's the Pro model and there's SUPPOSED to be generational price-to-performance improvement. The only price they can put it at that won't make their userbase freak out is the same price as the PS5 Pro, and even then people are going to lament that. Consumer technology's so fucked.
>>741680458>Valve subsidized the Steam Deck tho?Nope
>>741680562>>741680413My prediction is that the PS6 gets delayed but Sony pushes their PS5 handheld instead. It's not like the crossgen period is gonna end so might as well take advantage of that.
>>741680554It sold 4 million and the ones who jumped afterward sold even less. And those ones who jumped in was before the ram increases so the market is even smaller now
>>741680682Its closer to 6 million now give or take
>>741673098Valve had a DECADE to launch this platform and did NOTHING.
>>741680857Had to build linux gaming from the ground up in thay decade.
>>741680710Eh it was essentially sold out for a year and even now is not really moving. I'd say 5 mil best.
>>741680606Find me a handheld PC that was $299 and could run cyberpunk. I'll wait.
>>741680160Before the AI Rampocalypse retailers would often find themselves selling RAM at cost because of how unstable the demand for it is. The current situation is a windfall for manufacturers and the intend to milk it for all its worth until the demand inevitably dies down again.
>>741680992Right after you perform irrelevant, non sequitur task for me.
>>741680107you know what, retard
>>741681183>Bro it's not subsidized there's just nothing else even remotely in its price range trust me!Concession accepted~
>>741681939Ps5
>>741672998aka we are a bunch of kikes and we need to make more money, also that fat fuck need a new yacht
>>741673098He’s so fucking based. I kneel, Dr Autismo.
>>741681939>strawman statement that never happened, but in green[reddit space]Canned meme pidgin reply.
>>741673098LMAO
I mean it's also a PC
>>741672998They didn't subsidize it because unlike Sony, MS, and Nintendo, there's no guarantee that you'll use it to buy exclusively Steam games. You could get one and just use it as a desktop. You could use it as an emulation station. You could only buy games from GOG or Itch.io. In any case, they would lose a ton of money that they'd never be able to recoup.
It's still hilarious how everyone blames AI for RAM prices soaring and not the ram manufacturers who have been in trouble for price fixing many times in the past.
Valve can't sell the Steam Machine at a significant loss because its literally just a PC so people would just buy it for non-Steam shit which means they would be selling a computer that costs them money. Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo sell their machines cheaper because they know you'll be buying stuff on their digital service. What they should have done is include like a 300 dollar Steam gift card with the machine to soften the price
>>741673098Tim bringing the BANTS
>>741682132Concession already accepted. No need to keep begging for (You)s.
>Steam Machine out>No Half-Life 3
>>741672998These retards have been in their Washington bubble for far too long.
>>741680160You could multiply current RAM production by 5x and price trend wouldn't reverse.
>>741685072a digital gift card, at least. meaning it'd most likely be credited to the account that bought it. a potential clusterfuck if buying for little timmy.
As disappointing as the steam machine is the current price of components is a good excuse. Still this was not at all what I wanted from a redo on this concept they have all the manufacturing levers to pull we could have had>upgradeability>a more sleek form factor>some notable linux first releases to coincide with steam machine 2but it's the old steam machine all over again. For now it fills a role only thanks to the absolute state of hardware prices. Would anybody buy this if prices were normal and you could still build a PC without taking out a loan?
>>741688224the formfactor is already pretty sexy desuits the single most striking thing about it
>>741688224They should have used recent windows update fiasco to push Steam OS and then have the steam machine piggyback off of that.
>>741688378>>741688224The only good part about this current launch is that Valve is motivated to improve SteamOS while the Machine is still fresh.
>>741688224The problem is at the price it is, I'd rather build it myself so I can replace that atrocious 'GPU' down the road.
>>741688224>Would anybody buy this if prices were normal and you could still build a PC without taking out a loan?I would buy this for $400 and come with Windows installed.
>>741688224I would 100% buy this if it was like 600 bucks just as an extra PC to put in the living room
>>741673098lmao dunked on
>>741685072>Xbox sell their machines cheaper because they know you'll be buying stuff on their digital serviceNot anymore, that stops with Helix. You Xcucks need to stop putting yourself beside Nintendo and Sony. Team Xbox already confirmed they don't have any contracts for Helix in terms of RAM and SSDs, and their Helix APU, they have to give most of it to OEM companies.
I've had like $120 worth of unused steam gift cards for almost 2 years. Do you think the machine is an interresting offer with such a discount?
>>741689261give them back
>>741679786Uhhhhhh
>>741689261Fuck noThis thing would only be an interesting offer it was HALF the price
>>741673051There's also the fact that scalpers will just buy them all and resell the RAM for for $500. Subsidizing would be funding this behaviour.
>>741689261Do you want to put a PC on a living room to play games on? If no then FUCK NO. If yes, then it's relatively ok value on the current market with all hardware prices inflated to shit, but there's probably a better vfm alternative for that specific use case. Maybe some chink miniPC for half the price.
>>741673098kek timdog don't miss
>>741672998What the fuck would they be subsidizing exactly? They are selling a fucking 5 year old low range PC for 1400 dollarydoos turbonigger
