Valve didn't subsidize Steam machine cause thats not how you build a healthy ecosystem
>>
They don't have enough stock to make a price cut worthwhile

>>741672998
the real reason
>>
It's true. If you want people to adopt SteamOS you can't undercut the big PC manufacturers.
>>
>>741673098
like the ai trend his company has also followed?
>>
>>741672998
Valve is right. The Steam Machine needs to survive on its own merits. If it can't, it should die.
>>
>>741673104
No don't you see, Valve and Gabe don't keep winning because they are smart it's because they got lucky for 20 years in a row.
>>
Only poorfags care about the price, real fans will still be buying it regardless
>>
>>741673104
>you can't undercut the big PC manufacturers.
Why, and people won't adopt steamOS cause of the price anyways
>>
>>741673098
Not true, he bought a mansion recently for a price of 700 000 steam machines
>>
>>741673098
This but unironically.
3 years from now, the Steam Machine is going to look like a steal because the pricing lag from current bottlenecks and disruptions will have caught up to other hardware.
>>
>>741673098
Lmao he's such a salty bitch
>>
>>741673432
It will look like deck - overpriced and outdated
>>
>>741673098
i love how pc gamers are all about the bantz until its anyone poking fun at steam, then the thin skin shreds
>>
>>741673370
SteamOS is literally free.
>>
>>741673501
It's really weird because he didn't stop buying up American land when his company had to fire half their workforce.
>>
>>741673192
We need to realize that video games generally take a back seat to advancements in AI. Gabe knows that just like Satya knows that. The data centers and infrastructure upgrades are generally going to be a net positive for much more than just AI and cost of components will start stabilizing and even dropping in about 2028 or so.

Just be ready when Steam Machine 2 or "Steam Machine refresh" comes out at "just $700" in 2029 or 2030.
>>
>>741673098
could be worse, gaben could've funded lawsuits against a game that made his biggest product culturally irrelevant and spent millions just to lose lawsuits against apple and google

is this guy for real? the steam box is an entry level PC.
>>
>>741673432
It wasn't a steal at $700, it's e-waste from parts that would never sell even several years ago unless you were selling to retards.
>>
>>741673558
Then undercut these PC manufacturers since your OS is free regardless, there is no reason not to subsidize then
>>
>>741673676
He's an indian making a living on twitter, of course he has to spice up his posts.

Wait, it only has 16G RAM, BUT it's also single channel???
>>
>>741673370
1) Valve did an interview with that caveman pc youtuber and told him undercutting the price only works if you want a closed ecosystem, ie Steam Machines being cheaper would drive people even further away from desktops than they already are, which isn't what they want for PC gaming.
2) Valve is getting fucked up the ass by the memory shortages thanks to AI companies (without explicitly naming the AI jew). They're not making a datacenter despite Gabe Newell previously donating/investing money into LLMs, and they're not even a publicly traded company to begin with, so the 5-6 dram manufacturers are giving them the same shitty daily rates that the rest of us have to deal with.
3) Valve is being sued (again) for a supposed monopoly (again), this time by Netherlands who filed the suit immediately after the New York suit was settled. Showing up with a new computer product that's undercutting the rest of the market might give the claimants some legal ammunition.
>>
>>741673098
>Steam Machines were supposed to be affordable console alternatives, not premium PCs
Holy fuck who is this delusional retard
>Thinks $1400 buys a premium PC in this economy
lol
lmao even
>>
>>741673783
The literal only reason for valve to sell any steam machines at all is to set an example for those people you're suggesting they undercut.
>>
I wonder where the Steamies who said Valve would subsidize the Steam Machine went...
>>
>>741674248
Nowhere since none of them said that. Console retards said that
>>
well you're not building any ecosystem selling a pile of shit for 1.5k
>>
>>741672998
Why the fuck does it need to exist in the first place?
>>
>>741673959
>despite Gabe Newell previously donating/investing money into LLMs
The amount that he invested is basically a drop in the ocean considering how much cash openai acquired and is burning through right now
>this time by Netherlands who filed the suit immediately after the New York suit was settled
Where did you see that it was settled? I couldn't find anything. Also all of these lawsuits against Valve all stand on the same shaky ground while being borderline lawfare, against a company that prints money, i dont even know what i'd say to these people, i thought jews were supposed to be smart or something.
>>
>>741674440
They already have a strong ecosystem desu.
>>

>>
>>741672998
They wouldn't need to subsidize it if not for the AI bubble. Valve (and all b2c enterprise) is trivial in the scheme of things, and just happens to be on the wrong side of the great grift.

>>
>>741674889

it sold out because they decided to pull it and hike the price by 300$, not because people bought it. Chinkhelds have better screens than the 'eck lmao

I have been consistently right retard. I used to nickname the steam deck the "Stadia Deck" before it launched and that piece of shit hasn't even sold 5 million units.

Steam Machine will sell worse than Dead Deck.

Steam Frame will sell even worse than Steam machine.

The 10.000 paid valve shills will make the Steam machine appear that its successful but Valve will be quiet about its sales.

Valve is a piece of shit that will be eventually sold off to Microsoft.

>>
>>741673501
He's completely right though. GabeN can easily subsidize this like they did the steam deck to break into the market and make things affordable for gamers. But now Valve is more focused on pushing an image of wealth like Apple so they sell overpriced garbage to plebs.
>>
>>741678047
>GabeN can easily subsidize this
I doubt it, people here severely overestimate how much Valve is worth and how much that costs. It's especially bad because Valve has no idea what the machine will actually cost next month. I was watching one interview where a guy at Valve said you would talk to these memory companies, they'd offer you the chance to buy X units at Y price, and if you turned it down they'd just never talk to you again. And Y price is doubling.
>>
>>741672998
They don't have their own production place for the economy of scale to reduce production price unlike with other consoles.

That idea can only come from a market mindset that is unfamiliar with what Steam is, what a PC is and how valve makes money.
>>

There won't be a PS6 until 2032 or later for that reason.
>>
>>741679663
At worst, it'll be $999 but more likely around $600-800. They're not going to hit quadruple digits. It'd be suicide for a whole console cycle.
>>

and so will the ps+ subscribers
sony ain't taking shit
>>
>>741679883

>>
>>741680039
Lol you forgot about AI
Good luck console fag
>>
>>741672998

what the fuck do they mean? Steam already dominates the ecosystem, its been built already.
People are complaining because Steam Machine 512gb (when every console cheaper is 1tb) for $1000+ is a rip off and rightfully so.
Valve can't just say 'well yeah its a rip off, nothing we can do". They can do something but they don't care too.
>>

>>
>>741673370
The long term plan of Valve is to have PC manufactures like Asus/HP make steam boxes that can be sold at big box retailers. They won't even consider entering the market is Valve does loss leader hardware.
>>
>>741680064
Its going to be funny when ps6 is announced to be cheaper than steam machine
>>
>>741680089
glad we agree
>>
>>741680171
You understand that the Steam Machines already exist, and the PS doesn't, so now think about how far behind you are on hardware when it comes up and the hardware prices aren't going down. AI, remember?
>>
>>741680169
So their long term plan is the same for the original failed steam machines in 2014 lol
>>
>>741679663
We're all fucked anon
You can thank the AI shitheads for this one
>>
>>741680279
Yeah but it'll work this time because the software is better. Nobody was going to spend money on PCs that run bad linux ports. People will spend money on PCs that run windows games better than windows.
>>
>>741680241
Its funny you can't conceptualize subsidizing prices but then again steam never did for you so you can't, Sony lost $200 on every ps3 sold.
>>
>>741679996
>>741679786

The ps5 pro is already like 700-850 bucks
The leaked ps6 specs runs circles around it I dont see a world where it can be anything but 1k minimum
>>
>>741680160
It takes a lot of time and money, and by the time they're stood up the demand might be gone.
>>
>>741678476

>>
>>741673098
Oooooof Gabecucks didn’t take well this one
>>
>>741680379
>but it'll work this time
No it won't lol, PC market back then was cheaper and now PC marketshare is declining year over year cause of increasing prices. No one cares software is better they care about price
>>
>>741680474
Steam Deck sold millions of units and lots of PC manufactures jumped on afterward, it already worked.
>>
>>741680413
Yeah, but it's the Pro model and there's SUPPOSED to be generational price-to-performance improvement. The only price they can put it at that won't make their userbase freak out is the same price as the PS5 Pro, and even then people are going to lament that. Consumer technology's so fucked.
>>
>>741680458
>Valve subsidized the Steam Deck tho?
Nope
>>
>>741680562
>>741680413
My prediction is that the PS6 gets delayed but Sony pushes their PS5 handheld instead.

It's not like the crossgen period is gonna end so might as well take advantage of that.
>>
>>741680554
It sold 4 million and the ones who jumped afterward sold even less. And those ones who jumped in was before the ram increases so the market is even smaller now
>>
>>741680682
Its closer to 6 million now give or take
>>
>>741673098

Before the AI Rampocalypse retailers would often find themselves selling RAM at cost because of how unstable the demand for it is. The current situation is a windfall for manufacturers and the intend to milk it for all its worth until the demand inevitably dies down again.

They didn't subsidize it because unlike Sony, MS, and Nintendo, there's no guarantee that you'll use it to buy exclusively Steam games. You could get one and just use it as a desktop. You could use it as an emulation station. You could only buy games from GOG or Itch.io. In any case, they would lose a ton of money that they'd never be able to recoup.

It's still hilarious how everyone blames AI for RAM prices soaring and not the ram manufacturers who have been in trouble for price fixing many times in the past.

Valve can't sell the Steam Machine at a significant loss because its literally just a PC so people would just buy it for non-Steam shit which means they would be selling a computer that costs them money. Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo sell their machines cheaper because they know you'll be buying stuff on their digital service. What they should have done is include like a 300 dollar Steam gift card with the machine to soften the price

>upgradeability

but it's the old steam machine all over again. For now it fills a role only thanks to the absolute state of hardware prices. Would anybody buy this if prices were normal and you could still build a PC without taking out a loan?
>>
