>Saying game didn't meet their expectations
>Decided to do a year 2 for DLC
Did Sega expect this game to be the best-selling Sonic game of all time
>>
Sega sold this game at $70; they obviously had way too high expectations

You're right.

>Decided to do a year 2 for DLC
5 bucks says they split the DLC into two parts so there could always be a be year two DLC with hopes that sales were close muddle the waters with numbers. Their expectations must have been to astronomical where they couldn't spins it to investor reports or risk lying and getting sued.
>>
>>741677643
Did we get actual sales numbers yet?
>>
>>741677643
Somewhere along the line they forgot the franchise is targeting kids and kids can't afford $90 games and DLC to play as Spongebob or Minecraft, despite all the money involved in obtaining the IP rights for most of these.

Keep in mind that what they've shown from Season 2 is two of the biggest IP whores in Japan out of the gate, with only Gundam really missing by this point, so they probably have a massive downgrade as a result.

>>741677820
Even worse, $90 with the Deluxe if you want the $30 season pass that never goes on sale at a reasonable price.
>>
When you try to sell a knock off of a real franchise for $90, obviously it's not gonna sell.
>>
I'm guessing that the game has sold enough to not be considered a failure but they also haven't reached Frontiers numbers for it yet and wanted that.
Not to mention it has a dedicated team making it and the year 2 content was likely planned ahead of time, they probably still want to work on the game and it has enough player retention to justify it
>>741678284
This is what I'm thinking. Year 3 is going to be the actual gauge for the game's success (but honestly, I expect it to get a sales boost when the movie comes out, since that's exactly what happened with TSR)
>>741678356
Not yet
>>
I would buy it right now but apparently the game is just a meta whore experience so why the fuck would I want to do that?
>>
>>741679159
They're probably going to nerf the meta in the upcoming patch
>>
>>741678569
>Year 3 is going to be the actual gauge for the game's success (but honestly, I expect it to get a sales boost when the movie comes out, since that's exactly what happened with TSR)
A sales boost might not be enough as by then as when the movie comes out, the game will have already be approaching three years which is old in the gaming world. Also Crossroads was apparently developed with Sega's arcade team as well which could be why Sega has these extreme numbers they are expecting. Plus with the incredibly expensive IP crossovers must cost like >>741678458 said, It might not be enough for Sega to view the series as worth the the total cost in general.
>>
>>741679594
Games like this that rely on multiplayer to survive will just find the next meta and abuse it and it turns into a game of whack-a-mole until the devs finally stop updating the game and leave people with the final meta setup
>>
They're not even going to finish year one if they don't do something about the item balance.
>>
its just a bunch of models with stats. easiest dlc ever
>>
>>741679710
Only time will tell, but if they're going through with a year 2 I just hope they go all in and add plenty of content in case year 3 is shot down
>>741679718
True, but they're guaranteed another year and a half of different meta builds before that happens
>>
>>741677643
>>Decided to do a year 2 for DLC
you know that shit had to be decided upon well in advance
>>
No voices and no interactions with the DLC characters is what absolutely kills this game.
You're already shelling out extra money for an already overpriced game and this extra content is subpar. Absolute garbage.
They could add any wacky character in the world, and that won't undo the fact they're just lifeless 3D models.
>>
>>741679874
Pretty much this. They're going to slap some junior devs on it to do the modeling for cheap, slap the characters into the game with no voice lines or interactions, and charge money for it anyways since someone's gonna pay when they're going the Smash Bros Ultimate DLC route of just throwing random franchises into the mix by this point. Honestly, we'll get Dragon Ball at this point just because they won't have to pay for JP or EN voice cast and can use it to market both the game and franchise as a result.

>every DLC character, Sega or otherwise, is a lifeless husk whose true purpose is to give modders an extra slot to shove in their bikini Sonic.exe OCs (with voices)
>>
>>741680152
They also removed like 80% of the content the first and second games had.
I'm not paying 90 bucks + tax + tip for a multiplayer only e-sport game
Also the cups being 3 maps instead of 4 was a big dick move.
>>
>>741679925
>I just hope they go all in and add plenty of content
They should be adding more Sonic stuff, I don't understand why this game is getting so much praise when it will soon be approaching the point where the non Canon DLC characters will eclipse the Sonic cast characters which is beyond ridiculous at this point. I'm not gonna be surprised with a year or two they explain that they focused so much on the guest appearances they sacrificed the games quality and fine tuning as a result.
>>
>>741680717
As much as I want more Sonic tracks I don't think they're on the table anymore (I think Iizuka talked about more collabs for a potential year 3) so it'd probably be a better move to include SEGA themed CrossWorlds for any future characters they add instead. That way they can still deliver on this being a game for the All Stars Racing crowd and people who feel burned by the Sonic focus in the base game still have something to look forward to
>>
>>741680854
The problem is that it's too little, too late to correct course like that. The people burnt moved on since every company decided to drop a kart racer in the last year all the sudden to even fucking Kirby from Sakurai himself, so the All Stars Racing people aren't going to jump into the Sonic Racing game a year later or so just to buy the deluxe version to get the DLC and likely year two season pass.
>>
>>741680854
>and people who feel burned by the Sonic focus in the base game
Burned?! It has Sonic as the first word of the title which should have been a clear direction on where the game is going with the cast. Although at this point I would not be surprised to learn that upper management forced the Sonic angle on to a developing All Stars game that they were making to try and align for the 35th Sonic anniversary, which they've been doing a lousy job of so far.
>>
>>741677643
I thought it would do a lot better cause it’s genuinely one of the most fun racers I’ve played. Should have launched at $50 with $70 getting you the game + season pass
>>
>>741681130
New people are coming in as they see fit if they're interested. I played for a few hours with a friend of mine last Sunday afternoon that just got the game the week prior
>>741681336
It's anyone's guess at this point. Either way the game needs more tracks and just a SEGA character with a festival isn't enough, having a new track of some kind included with them would help (plus some characters could get a rerun festival to double dip for characters, like Monkey Ball, Persona, or NiGHTS)
>>
>>741681812
At this point they seem to be super fixated with collabs which becoming cheap thing in this day and age. Another issue is that Team Sonic seemed to have believed their own self hype a bit much, like when they say they wanted to make Sonic Mario's rival again, a worthy LONG term goal, but it's clear Sonic's cultural popularity hasn't risen as much as they and the fans believe. Fact is they both tried challenging Mario in racing and in platforming when he still has yet to master his own games before challenging his old rival again.
>>
>>741682586
Yeah the only thing Sonic's beaten Mario in is movie reception and even then the Mario movies have made more money faster (though the new one made less than the first). It's really a toss up for now. I'm more glad that Sonic even got a new racing game that people could compare favorably to a Mario Kart since that hasn't happened since 2012

so when's the mystery niggas reveal happening? japan's 7pm JST stream or the eceleb's charity stream?
>>
>>741683407
Probably both, but the JP one comes out first (only a few more hours) so I expect it to be there first then uploaded to the YT channel
>>

is the stream even up to wait in yet? I'm not seeing it anywhere on YT

>>
>>741684130
>28 hours away
wtf? so it's the 25th for Japan then, and the 24th for us. that's a bummer we have to wait another day
>>
>>741682763
The better reception IMO is mostly coming from hardcore Sonic fans as my two younger cousins who went to see every movie, Said while they liked them they were fine with one viewing. For the Mario Galaxy movie one saw the movie twice while the other saw three times although he is more of a Mario fan and both said they saw them multiple times because they wanted to catch all the stuff that was happening on screen. Meanwhile they said while they liked the Sonic and his friends, they wish it was animated which has always been my biggest criticism of the Sonic movies.
>>
Believe it or not Jonesy is coming to Crossworlds in year 2, you did not hear it from me and do not screenshot this.
>>
>>741684263
Yeah it sucks, you'd think it would be on the anniversary date but oh well
>>741684298
I see. I guess it's different strokes for different folks then, I know some people said their kids found the Galaxy movie pretty boring. I personally liked it fine enough but it reeks of missed potential, can't deny that it was a fun time in the moment though
>>
>>741684497
I'm sure there's some kind of Fortnite crossover since Epic already announced a Sonic crossover about an outfit and I think a car if you bought Crossworlds on Epic Store. Season 1 I got to joke about how most of the roster was just Nick doing wholesale to Sega, but Season 2 is shaping up to just be the biggest advertising whores they can find for all that cross promotion that won't really work out like they think it will, since it needs to be worthwhile and fun instead of just a music track, a skin from an IP, and a loosely based track on it.
>>
>>741685004
if a new character, new customization options, new festival, new car and a new track isn't enough then nothing will satisfy you bro

Before I had to bed, I'mma be honest with you, anon. I'm mostly just here to bitch about how stupid Sega is for expecting such huge sales one on one of their highest priced games ever that's a spin-off at that and how the value doesn't really seem there as an outsider that's been wanting in outside of dropping $50+ for the Deluxe. Most of those things won't really satisfy me from what I've played of the game since it's usually just a single lap of a track from what I've played, I don't know what a festival is nor the customization options, the characters as DLC are just mute skins that are all interchangable as far as I'm aware and probably the same with the vehicle selection by this point since the game is at the point where it's mostly leaning into meta play to really have a chance to succeed online from what others are saying.

My monkey paw wish is to get the Deluxe for $20-$30 but then I know they'll introduce Season 2 Pass for $20 or even $30 on top of it, so the waiting game is turning into a long con for a deep discount it seems when all the content is released as well as tons of mod support and bug fixes / balance patching.
>>
>>741685439
I share your frustration with SEGA, they should've charged 50 bucks base and 60 Deluxe and a lot of people still don't want to buy it as it's 50% off because they feel like they missed out on it due to the cosmetic rewards the festivals gave, hopefully they'll remove the fomo in the future.
>>
>>741685439
>nor the customization options
the customization is pretty dog honestly, you can stick together the front half and back half of any machine within their shared types and there's decals, but you can't overlap them and they have fuck huge squares around them so you can't even go over an area of empty space around them so making anything actually cool/detailed is impossible
oh yeah you can also change colors/finish and there's unlockable auras and horns, those are decent at least

Honestly I've gotten a good amount of mileage out of the limitations. I got the Werehog later than most because I got the Switch version physical and didn't use the code but upgraded, immediately thought to make a Wolverine car with the car parts

I find it funny that Sega tiptoed around overlapping decals, presumably to prevent naughty designs, but then Nintendo let KAR release with an incredibly robust kart/license customization system
