This incident is really proving that Valve can do literally anything and people will eat it up. Gabe could kill someone in a livestream and people would defend him, I am not even joking. Trump couldn't get away with this, but Gabe could.

Back in January of this year you could have bought a PS5 pro killer level PC for $827. And it absolutely demolishes the steam machine. Image being a waitfag.

CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X OEM $106
Cooler: Aliexpress tower air cooler $9
MB: Asrock B550M-HDV $70
RAM: Chinese 2x16gb 2933mhz DDR4 $64 (from newegg btw)
GPU: Gigabyte RTX 5060ti 8gb $330
SSD: Gamestop PCIE 4.0 NVME SSD 2tb $170
PSU: Asrock Pro 650W $45
Case: Zalman Raven $33
>>

OP's cereal box won't have a single slot for expansion. It'd better to rip out the CPU&GPU and put them in a real case.

Then just spend another 10 seconds googling pre-builts. There's another one for $1229 with a 5060 Ti in case you were planning on buying the 2 TB cube.
Unless you absolutely need the smallest form factor possible there's no reason whatsoever to get a Steam Machine. Even then I'd say just get a SeXbox and a laptop.
>>
>>741679790
He doesn't need to though, it's a fully functional PC.

All Valve has to do is develop software that turns this thing into an editing machine/streaming box and they can kill Microsoft because the hardware itself goes up in value over time because it gains more functionality

The Xbox Series S only does netflix streaming and video games, same with the X but that can also do Blu rays ooh wow

The Steam Machine will get a refresh in a few years and improve while the Helix comes out and is only useful for GTA6

Subsidizing is anti-competitive behavior.
It makes it impossible for smaller businesses and start-ups to compete. Subsidized everything is why the US companies aren't able to compete internationally without government handout or intervention, and it's why outsourcing labor/production and importing goods became the norm.

valves not going out of business, its epic games. valve sells actual games.

>here's so few real world scenarios that would preclude someone from having the space for that pc but not a steam machine
The point of the steam machine is so that normies can place it right next to the TV and not having scream GAYMER when people come over.
People on /v/ obviously don't care if they have a rainbow monstrosity in their living room, or else have other means of connecting their PC in another room to the living room TV.
>>

Anon. Fucking think for a second. If I go to someone's house and I see a steam machine I am not only not going believe they are a normie, but I know they are either mentally ill or retarded and probably obsessed with valve. Every slightly tech adjacent influencer has talked about how shitty of a deal this is. Normie is having a PS5.
>>
>>741686163
No bigger than a ps5
>>
>>741687149
flag state of the vessel so likely the US considering that's probably where his yacht is registered
>>
>>741686674
Normies don't want a PC hooked up to their TV. They simply don't.
Gaymers who do this want a PC that's reasonably powerful and not slower than the PC they had 6 years ago.
The target audience for Steambox is exactly 3 people who really want to play their Steam library of 2D roguelikes on their TV and also think that paying 1000 bucks for that is reasonable.

Yea Tim Sweeny actually gives back a lot more.
Unreal Engine, Millions of dollars worth of high quality assets, buys tech an incorporates it for free in UE, Metahuman, which you can use for free in engines other than UE, gives developers money to make games and more.

All Gayben does is get fatter and buys more yachts while an army of NPC gamers ride his dick and lick his boots.

Tim is classically autistic and far from perfect but it seems he cares/cared more about games than Gayben ever did.
>>
>>741687149
Well if the yacht is stateless (doesn't have a flag), then most likely to the US
>>
>>741686674
Just put the PC behind the TV. Fucking hell, just get a laptop with HDMI.

I feel like steamies have been living in an alternate reality where mini PCs that are just laptops without the screen in a tiny box haven't been around for a decade. I got one that was 200 bucks, it plays everything at 720p, and is fine for casuals. Any real gamer will have an actual rig and an actual monitor, so the steam machine is for nobody.

Source engine is just the quake 2 engine with decades of tech debt layered on to it for years. Almost no third party games use the source engine because it sucks. How many movies/video have you seen made with the source film maker? I have seen ZERO because it's shit. I have seen a lot of music videos, shows and movies that have used the unreal engine for VFX.

Also what does Gayben's dick taste like because it seems you love ramming it deep into your throat.

This is a 1080 machine it can't do anything else anyways so I consider this less of an issue than SINGLE CHANNEL ram and fucking 512 storage

literal garbage

If you really think tendies are the only ones like this, you're probably blind.

Not anymore it isn't.

That's so fucking shit, the Steam Machine out performs 3060 (non-Ti) according to benchmarks. 3050 and 8GB of system RAM -literally half of the Steam Machine, which people already say doesn't have enough, for 1000 dollars? Sign me up.

GamersNexus already estimated a $79 premium over DIY for the 1tb version and a 200$ premium for the 2TB
Theres a lot of interesting bespoke work that went into making the proprietary cooler and case as well as the huge amount of software work getting proton to reach higher levels of compatibility (which is available to any machine that can run steam os or Linux for free).
The thing has no value other than being a fun tech toy for those that love interesting tech in small packages but it's at least clear that there's hardly the same massive markup from other competitors like HP.
It's evident to most that Steam didn't subsidize because they'd probably have it used against them in court where they're being sued for being a monopoly

>All Valve has to do is develop software that turns this thing into an editing machine/streaming box and they can kill Microsoft because the hardware itself goes up in value over time because it gains more functionality

Not when they're selling them at a thousand bucks a pop with a limited stock.

And yet it's better than the Steam Machine.

That's literally more than the complete steam machine with controller, can't you read numbers?
>>
>>741695846
it's the exact model in OP's screenie, not my fault HP are charging $1500 for it now
>>
>>741679275
Subsidizing requires locked down system and that would be pretty bad for the ecosystem. Do you really want a PC that you can't do anything but play steam games just so you can save some money on the hardware?
>>
>>741696012
Nigga, the whole argument is that it was cheaper than the valve machine and you say "here i've found a more expansive pc that has more performance", yeah no shit Sherlock.
No, you did not found that 600 bucks pc because that first pc doesn't exist anymore, everything is more expensive and the steam machine as much as it hurts costs as much as it should be, everyone is saying that's not the case while presenting more expensive or slighty less expensive but worse at the same time pcs.

>everyone posts the "current equivalent" with a 3050 because the original is apparently not being sold anymore
>i post the listing of OP's machine proving it is indeed for sale and now for a considerably higher price
>"dude wtf why is that one you posted more expensive than the steam machine now?"
