It's a gay assassins creed reskin.

Splinter Cell isn't a tactical shooter, zoomie, it's a pure stealth game. the shooting is frustrating at best and counterproductive at worst. and stealth games don't fucking suck, nobody knows how to make them anymore so you've never played a good one.

You're so pathetic it's unreal. Being in my mid 30s the most painful thing about it is seeing embarrassing faggots like you harp on about how GOOD games were back then. Stealth games are dogshit, period. "Gameplay" about sneaking around is the most painfully boring thing imaginable. I remember buying Chaos Theory then trading it in a week later for God Of War.
>I..it's not tactical
No shit my original post implication was about everything gamewise with the Tom Clancy label. That goes for Rainbow Six/G.R.A.W. and even modern iterations like The Division. It's a raped genre that has nothing of value to offer to any actual gamer. Consider suicide, the earlier millennials die out the better the industry will be.

If this ever releases one day you'll get an unofficial one. Maybe. Plus there's another in development but likely slow progress co-op stealth shooter called Darkspy that i found.
>>
>>741740997
Hard mode makes it so you can only see what your character could, so a closed room hides the area and enemies around that room. People like both games because they're fun. You can go full stealth/ghost or mass shooter. The game thrives when you embrace both, for when stealth fails and you have to make a mad escape. Enemy AI is better than most too.

> Pictured, the death of a franchise

Their excuse for the complete and utter character assassination of Sam Fisher was "We want more action and Ironside is too old to do the motion capture scenes". More likely it was "We didn't want to pay him for VA so we got some new guy that we could pay next to nothing instead", but whatever.

Literally all they had to do to not piss everyone off was make the player character a brand new character who was younger, and get Ironside to voice Sam Fisher as the new leader of 4th Echelon (or whatever). He would talk to you over the course of each mission in the role previously held by Lambert. This would let the devs use a younger/more athletic character with a more physical style of gameplay, as well as keep the believability of the series intact.

Or they could have just made an actual stealth game instead of "press X to win" bullshit, but I digress.
>>
>>741749786
To be fair, the game being a AAA title they couldnt make it slow and atmospheric or strategic and methodical, at least %65 of people would dip out on the first mission plus youre basically eliminating purchases from females because youre asking them to play the video game equivalent of Master and Commander.

Stealth is dead simply because everyone now is much dumber and less patient.

all they have to do is patch the current pc port to fix bugs, modernize UIX, and give the game full steam integration

>>
>>741750185
>Stealth is dead simply because everyone now is much dumber and less patient.
Dishonored helped killed it by further dumbing everything down though. As did Ubisoft but that besides the point because whoever had the biggest impact to dilute game mechanics set the respective trend. Perhaps AC equally shares the blame to be a little more balanced in critique. Games are still copying Dishonored to this day which /v/ otherwise considers slop though.
The best example is that Thi4f is basically a Dishonored retread.
>>
>>741754697
Double Agent is best experienced by playing version 2 on the OG xbox.
It gets very close to Chaos Theory tier and less of a middling title. Ubisoft have made this the least obtainable version today. It never got properly ported for PC nor did it exist on the 7th gen consoles. It's a puzzling thing to happen because it's a very high note for the series gameplay wise.
Some people question whether SC was a 1 hit series but i say that's incorrect because DA is actually pretty good.
>>
>>741756447
Dishonored retread if its combat was dogshit and prolonged instead of dogshit that ends in a second because of how overpowered you are, superpowered or not.

AA won't ever touch. Indie there's only a few potentials right now and a few of them look pretty unclear and not well communicated about their progress. If even the indie scene can't break into this genre (or do it without meaningful results and they have a 2 hour run time/are janky. that's even if they ever release because most of them don't) what hope do we have for AA to ever do it? there's unlikely to be a comeback from any direction. That being said i hold onto hope that someone talented out there will eventually just take a leap of faith and realize they're not going to do make much money by creating these games but just does it for the passion above the profit.

I know what the difference is. My comments are that AA will only dive into something if it's well established generally from the small devs. They see StarDew Valelly doing well then they're going to want to make their own higher budget version of it. That's how it works nowadays.
They've been following trends of what does well outside their usual higher funded output.

How does the PS2 version compare to the xboxheug version? PS2 emulation is pretty good these days.

If its anything like the PS2 version of Chaos Theory I'm sure the lighting will be nowhere near as good and the levels will be split up with loading zones, but if its reasonably faithful it might be worth checking out.
>>
>>741757462
All stealth games should take place at dusk/night imo
best for atmosphere and kind of appropriate mission wise that you don't just bust into some complex in the day while everyones alert and expects it. Some people comment on Splinter Cells stealth being unrealistic but I've moved through the dark like Sam does IRL and people didn't notice me. But it's all circumstantial because there needs to be more dimmed background light sources.
>>
>>741759082
It still has minor cuts and pair backs, but the PS2/GC/Wii versions surprisingly aren't as cut back as prior ports were. Biggest problem is that Dolphin has notable graphical issues here and there with the GC version but the Wii is pretty much motion control hell, so PS2 is literally your best direct bet. You can technically run the Xbox version on Xemu and I mostly had intact gameplay, but Xemu's kind of a shit like all Xbox emulation.
>>
>>741759198
I'd emulate the PS2 version for two reasons:

1.) The PS2 is piss easy to emulate these days
and
2.) The Gamecube is gay
>>
>>741759082
Both PS2 and gamecube versions are likely always gimped compared to the Xbox ones. I'm not sure what the story was with that other than considering the SC series was technically a loose Xbox exclusive that it's versions got priority over everyone else.
I don't know the specifics but if it follows the same trends of the others then it's likely downgrounded lighting and textures or something. Chopping the levels up into pieces on the PS2 because the shit hardware couldn't handle it.
>>
>>741759361
Xbox straight up had more horsepower and memory overall (Xbox, 64MB; GC, 43MB non-unified; PS2 32MB). So it could store more level data, handle more complex shaders thanks to DirectX being built into it and the machine built to handle more demanding visuals, etc. When Splinter Cell got the other ports, the result was taking a scalpel and trying to remove level chunks, guards, other certain tidbits, and adding more loading screens here and there throughout to compensate, on top of graphics downgrades all around. Gamecube graphics weren't as downgraded, but used the same level changes. Chaos Theory and Double Agent Version 2 got less cuts/changes, but still had to pull back on demand to make the jump appropriately.
If you ever played Splinter Cell 3D on the 3DS, it was basically the PS2 port of Chaos Theory.
>>
>>741759254
I'd personally advise against playing the cutback version for the reasons he outlined even if it's not as bad as the prior examples>>741759645
Just find an Xbox Series S on the real cheap and backwards compat emulate. It might not be worth the hassle but thats something ill be doing for my next playthrough of it since og xbox emulation is still shit. I'd prefer the least compromises to the original vision of the game. Even though Double Agent is already in a grey area for having two versions. I've just played it back when i still had an OG xbox so that's how i found about the differences eventually that the version of the game that most people played on their 360s and PS3s and thought it was 'bad' wasn't the same one i played on xbox. That pretty much just felt like a continuation of Chaos Theory.

How are you going to make some part of the design stick out when the idea is that you can see in the dark like it's daylight and other people can't?
Solid Snake had a bandana half tried around his forehead and that worked in simplicity too for looking pretty iconic. All it needs is one element to create memorable iconography. Not sure why the bandana worked as well as it did since there were no practical reasons for why Snake did it on the other hand whilst Sam's reasons were practical.

Old SC was the blueprint for AC? wut
They play nothing alike. Or maybe you're insisting that Blacklist is old now with the similarities which is technically true about all the auto parkour stuff. But Blacklist was hardly the blueprint for any of it considering the first AC was 2007. None of the games had automated inputs until Conviction and Blacklist. Wasn't AC always technically automated? it just had varying degrees of automation and making it more cinematic later on with improved animations. But SC was never a blue print because it never adopted it's philosophy and only after AC did the similarities come about.

You are forgetting way dumber and more forced cases from the first game. Cant tell whether you genuinely forgot or are just being disingenuous

The same logic applies to SCBT's train level btw. You can just hide and take them down with gas grenades and shit before youre detected. You can even gas them before you drop inside the train. Doesnt make that section any less terrible

I have never seen that room. How do you get inside?

I am only talking about the end section of Blacklist's, meant to type BL
The SCPT train level is a different flavor of dogshit though. Most of it is practically a cutscene, you just hold the climbing button waiting for shit to happen, or you stare at dialogues.

What a shame that Mudang game is cancelled. I was kind of looking forward to it. Not the k-pop side, but the gear-queer tacticool side. Oh well, better scratch it off the list.

>hypothetical good train level
you have to keep moving in and out of the train to avoid detection while still progressing and getting your objectives done. cool strategy and timing
you use your fancy spy tools and sticky cameras to see the inside of the train from the outside
you have to watch out for obstacles outside of the train when moving out, maybe some observer/handler warns you about an incoming tunnel or low clearance obstacles
>SCPT's train level
hold w for several minutes
follow linear path
wait for dialogue to end in the 1 obvious spot to hide, move to the next one, repeat

Yeah the news broke just a day ago about the official bankruptcy filing. I'd probably have played it but it still wasn't entirely ideal for me in it's direction. Too action heavy that even made Blacklists action parts look more tame in comparison. Also the whole zombie like virus horror thing? didn't like that and it looks like they were trying to sprinkle in TLOU or something. Plus protect the k pop star? it was loopy shit that didn't belong in a tactical stealth action game.
Should always just be espionage themes imo. I dunno asian games are weird.
That being said no one makes these kinds of games at all, period. Aside from a very limited amount of future potential upcoming unpolished indie projects I've seen that won't even have a fraction of it's budget.
It's one of the few games i was still anticipating to try out at least but I'm pretty biased towards thinking that the right direction for design is light levels. Just no ones figured that out in modern day. Styx tried doing this to a considerable degree and i think it at least had a few of the right ideas in a modern game but the definitive direction should still be Chaos Theory.

Always bugs me when modern games stop you from doing fun things
In a nugame she would be un-attackable no matter what you do
Instead of this, they chose to add in a little message and let the player experiment for fun
It's so simple and yet so valuable
