Fromsoft is capable of doing a proper story structure with Sekiro so why can't they do it in any of their item descriptslop games? I'm so tired of these shitty vague and disjointed garbage with no proper timeline.
>>
>>741754842
He wrote the backstory, though a lot of it was taken straight from the Silmarillion. Think of it as a design document. None of it is in the actual game. That's all Hackazaki.

Because Miyazaki has explicitly stated his intent with these games is to reproduce the feeling of playing a game in a language you don't understand, only being able to piece bits of it together through context and what little you do understand.
>>
>>741754842
I don't think he wrote anything.
>>
>>741754928
>>741755163
We know he didn't do this, because that all changed a bunch during development.
You can find dialog in the game data referencing a version of the story where Godfrey never even killed the Giants. Like the one thing he actually has attributed to him in the released game, and it was a late addition to the plot.
Whatever backstory GRRM wrote, it was just paper thing.
>>
>>741754842
The gods and their family tree, the concept of the war and obviously the Ring and the Erdtree as a religious concept.
Everything else is blatantly Fromsoft.

Take the Two Fingers. This weird concept could only have come about by George writing a cool name for basically a pope of the setting (Christ raising two fingers). He did this in Fire and Ice with the "High Sparrow".

Miyazakin took this and turned them into literal unironic fucking fingers, then wrote their concept out basically be the Godhand from Berserk.
This is why up until meeting the fingers you feel like you're expecting a religious figure and then the door opens and there is a giant hand sitting there.

That's probably why despite the setting being heavily invested with Gold and trees there is a heavy finger theme. Basically japs not getting a christian allegory character concept and running away with it.

This. people shitpost about it being them making up for poor writing. You need to look at BB, where the story was the clearest it's ever been in terms of souls story telling.

Miyazacki went out of his way and edited Kos's name to Ebrietas, then made Kos a separate character, to completely change how the Choir and Rom's ascension occurred. He deliberately fucks with shit to keep that "reading a story in a foreign language" concept.
>>
>>741755683
"Japs not getting it" seems to be a running theme with the studio. From story beats to having basic graphics settings.
>>
>>741754563
There's another shitpost where someone says something like "Item acquired: Brambleshart's Zanziclap" and I laughed out loud.

Japan's imitation of how it thinks old english sounds is fucking bizarre. Same energy and cadence but it just sounds like nothing you have ever heard of before.
I had to google the word "Pontiff" when DS3 came out and I don't think anyone has used that word in 400 years.
>>
>>741755838
I think he does it intentionally to mess with people and you are reading it backwards. They know people go out of their way to learn everything in these games so they intentionally obscure things. In ER we have a character with the last name Loux that does the same things as the mythological guy Lugh that is pronounced the same way. In the prerelease stuff they gave that name to goldmask so you wouldn't catch on that they fantasy-fied a mythological warrior. This is the studio that put stuff into character models in NR that you can't see without ripping the models and removing layers of clothing in a character viewer, they know people go to autistic lengths to uncover things. When you factor in trailers that don't show up in the games having lore related stuff you can kind of see this all as some ARG we are all playing.
>>

I don't think that needed any proof, but the confirmation is nice.

Elden Ring and DMC5 are perfect examples of turning a joke into something badass.
DmC was shit on relentlessly for spouting "fuck" every two seconds. The "fuck you!" scene with the succubus thing was hilarious and stupid.
Then DMC5 pulls a "fuck you!" at the climax of the game and it was a huge moment.

The "forgive me x" also works with some build up. If you read the item descriptions in the manse leading up to the boss, it was an excellent moment.

It's likely the greater will isn't a conscious thing with morals and decisions. It probably doesn't need to take a shit, scratch an itch or tell you what to do. It just exudes its will like a radio frequency, something interprets its need for expansion or self-propagation, and when it moves too far away to be heard, the self-proclaimed scions of its will go crazy without a purpose.

There are cut statues of Ebrietas with a more human body holding a Rom Spiderling. A corpse/shed skin resemblign Rom is in Ebrietas's room.

It couldn't be more obvious they intended Ebrietas to be Kos, a captured Old One used by the coir to give Rom eyes and bolster the Choirs ascension into higher dream realms.

>This is the studio that put stuff into character models in NR that you can't see without ripping the models and removing layers of clothing in a character viewer
Given From's overall incompetence I'm more inclined to think that's an effect of miscommunication between designers and modellers. We're talking about a studio that still can't figure out moving NPCs smoothly between loaded areas.

I've assumed that the "signals" from the greater will are just light (which coincidentally the fingers are able to manipulate) and the "abandonment" by the greater will just means that the light from the explosion that created the universe stopped after x amount of years due to the lag between the event and the light reaching metyr. which is why there's deliberate use of the alleged sound a black hole makes in her summoning of the microcosm. she's been trying to get light signals from a void that can't produce light anymore and doesn't understand it. which is pretty dark that she returns to it when cornered so now she's trapped in a singularity never to see light again.

it's a parallel of the shattering where direction from marika suddenly stopped and the people were left to fend for themselves and broke down into faction warfare.

That's not what happened. Placi's deity was another Elden ring host based on his comparison to an Elden Lord and the Farum Azula Elden Ring (which has like twice the number of circles).

It's gone probably because Metyr deemed it time to replace it, so it's either dead or somehow managed to abandon the ring. There is a schizo theory that the dagger that can kill two fingers is Placi's god.

Not that there's anything wrong with that to be desu. Execution, as with most things in Elden Ring, needed work. Melina acknowledges that life sucks, but it endures, and wants to fight for that. The Lord of Frenzied Flame's whole thing is
>Nah fuck it all
It's nice, but it's a barely formed idea. Melina should have been a major antagonist should the player be embraced by the Three Fingers.
>>741755683
Doesn't help that the story works completely fine if you ignore the Two Fingers entirely, or even took them out. Ranni feeling trapped by the Two Fingers works just the same if it was Ranni feeling trapped by Marika's or Radagon's wishes for her to be the next god queen. The colossal trees being borne of Two Finger seeds doesn't actually matter when they could just be trees imbued with golden energies. The Two Fingers just exist to look weird and that's it. They're lame.

If a simpler show, or a person, had managed to encapsulate your entire writing in just a small, but poignant sentence (or a tweet), then your "serious game" has lost all of its depth or meaning because it's something that even a neanderthal can summarize without trying

No lol its literally a space worm that has taken up the forms similar to a dragon because of deep lore reasons. I feel like I'm the only one who thinks this because when I bring it up I get labeled as crazy :( but considering what the Profaned Flame says about Sulyvahn, how an ambition took root within him. I'm very certain it's something like this:
>Sulyvahn lived in the painting, which was beholden to a cycle of rot and fire
>Hates it, escapes the painting
>Finds out that the world outside is beholden to the exact same cycle
>Finds the Profaned Flame, a flame touched by darkness and never seems to go out
And so he decides to overthrow the current order because he found a flame that doesn't go out. But along the way, Miyazaki and co. gave the Profaned Flame less import, or maybe it never got to a point where it had much import, but I'm 100% sure this is Sulyvahn's whole deal.

Factually retarded statement. Spiritually brown contrarians on /v/ have tied all their self-worth to treating good things as bad things and bad things as good things, so anything acclaimed by both critics and fans burns them like clean water burns indians, and they must bring it down, even latching onto idiotic statements by slop essayists and journalists to achieve such.

Sulyvahn in the beta is the Old King of the Eclipse. The Dancer has swords which mirror his weapons and are more obviously Fire and Dark (Where as Sulyvahn's "Dark" sword is just magic, which may have been a later change)

So it seems apparent the idea behind Sulyvahn was always "master of both" .
The true Profaned Capitol was cut from the game, they weren't even remotely close to starting aside from the area we were given, which seemed to have been intended for what Wolnir was pre-final.

We don't really know what the Profaned flame was intended to be, but I think the entire idea behind Sulyvahn was always someone who wanted some kind of convergence of the ages forever, hence the concept of the eclipse that was severely downplayed in the final cut.

The Eclipse shows up completely in the Age of hollows ending, which is neither dark nor light, so I can only conclude it's similiar to what Sulyvahn wanted, since his plans seem to contradict both agenda regarding the ages (Stops Lothric from ascending, keeps Alderich on a leash)

There was this hilarious meme from one of the trailers that was displaying a rapid passage of time in the game world and there some little monster that crawled out of a cave at daybreak and posters were saying hilarious shit
>Look at that tranny
>DUDE IT'S ZANZIBART
and of course we had the Shazam memes to keep us entertained during the run up to the release. Honestly the pre release hype to me at least was more fun than the actual game. I had more fun dunking on Shazam posters than I did with the actual game. Like the game was alright it was a good game but there is so much going on in Elden Ring it's so unfocused and alot of the areas just feel like a really bad Dark Souls mod. The game is still great but I liked their previous offerings more.

It's really autistic but basically there was a group of extremely blackpilled posters who just hated every game it's pretty relatable really because at the end of the day I am very much like them but alot of them became very deranged and there were also alot of disparate motivating factors bringing all of these people together(for example alot of them were just seething console warriors gathering under the banner of Shazam)
Shazam itself was just something they organized under. They would just post Shazams in hype threads forever reminding everyone that it doesn't matter what you think the game will come out and it will be dogshit. Well Shazam posting reached a frenzy during the run up to Elden Ring's release and in a sense Elden Ring kind of killed shazam posting because the game was a "masterpiece"(desu I don't think so but I just think it's funny to go along with it because I thought dunking on the Shazamtrannies was funny)
At the end of the day autists have too much time on their hands and get overly invested in the dumbest shit imaginable. In a way Elden Ring kind of killed Shazam posting it really shouldn't have because now things are worse than ever.

>To this day I don't fucking understand what it was about
It all begins in 2014 when DaS II was was a let down against its insane over-hype, followed by Miyazacki announcing BB, a PS4 exclusive, followed by it being better than DaS II.

It was among the worst eras of console war shitposting because /v/ loved DaS, /v/ wanted Bloodborne, but PS4 had no games and /v/ could not afford or justify buying a 600 dollar 1 games machine.
So "Sony Won" and /v/ gorged itself on shitposting about it.

Then their fun ended because DaS III was announced. If DaS III was better or equal to BB, then /v/ could just skip BB and enjoy the new thing. Their fun was threatened, so DaS III had to be dogshit so /v/ would be bitter and continue coveting Bloodborne.

So it was shitposted non-stop before release, then shitposted nonstop during release. It was shitposted so hard it's still considered "Worse than BB" even though they're both pretty similar games with strengths and weaknesses.
Then Sekiro was announced and shitposted and dismissed.

And then of course, Elden Ring.

Around the time of Elden Ring, the green text >You are here
Type posts from the dark souls III era were emerging but with an image of Shazam. I believe this was party stolen by a /tv/ meme about predicting how the Shazam movie would flop.
So people called these shitposters "Shazam Trannies" and rumors spread of it being a discord group.

The core of this anti-fromsoft "lets tortanic a From Game and make /v/ think From Soft is doomed/or going to shit" is deeply rooted in trying to preserve Bloodbornes value even if people long stopped caring.
>>
>>741762173
When the movie came out, /tv/ was a riot! It got here too, mocking that shitty game Cyberpunk when CDPR fucked it up on release and made themselves look like fools trying to gain the ESG approval items. This was all very autistic but fun. Guys still Shazam posting are militant autists or people who were there and only do it to relive them funny memory. The discord spammer here is just a shitty indian on a crusade. Can't wait to see how he receives the next Fromsoft title for PC.

Poignant critique IMO isn't like a FOTN pressure point death blow or anything. Just because Weird Al sung with marbles in his mouth which essentially did encapsulate the entire output of Nirvana at that point in time and it resonated with people and made them laugh well whatever. People can laugh at both things if everyone just takes it in stride and can just honestly assess themselves and then poke fun at themselves for just a moment to reveal an inner humility then whatever it rolls off you like you were made of teflon.
This kind of biting critique only hurts creators with big egos that take themselves too seriously.

About half of them were probably just contrarians who wanted to prove /v/ had become too "legacy" dependent, like with redditors and bioware. Basically too lovestruck with the dev to judge the quality of their games.

/v/ enjoys hating games more than loving them, and seeing something /v/ like crushed would have been enjoyable for some.
But the root of it was always BB. What is more enjoyable for /v/ than hating a popular game is seeing other seethe and be envious over games they cannot get.

There was no reason for /v/ to shitpost at Dark Souls III especially after its release trailer and footage made it look closer to DaS than DaS II did.
It was 100% fear that /v/ would stop being salty about BB.

There was still a strong delusion at the time that Fromsoft had built a strong relationship with Sony and that a process of "B team" cutting all lose ends with slop would begin.
Basically they would fulfill Bamcos contract with a lackluster third installment and go full into Sony with for a more generous business deal. The future was souls games with greater scale but Sony exclusives.

So DaS III had to be shit no matter what, can't let From Soft have a reason to continue working with Bamco... until Oh no.. Elden Ring.
What's that? Sony dropped the ball with BB entirely by going full California DEI slop for the next decade? Whoops! the dream dried up, the shitposting died with it, nothing left to do but wish From Soft would just go bankrupt.

No, that's bullshit. There are games that generate genuine discussion every time with minimal shitposting. But it takes a GOOD game to do that. Deus Ex, Legacy of Kain, XCOM, Diablo, just off the top of my head - I have never once experienced a bad thread dedicated to any these. /v/ does love games. GOOD ones.

The sad fact of the matter is Sturgeon's law is very real in the vidya industry, and most games released nowadays just plain old suck. If your favourite game's threads are so full of "hate" you end up calling it ubiquitous, then consider the possibility it may simply be not good enough to warrant real discussion - and that what you call "hate" may actually be nothing more than vitriolic criticism.

Which game has harder bosses? Dark Souls 3 or Elden Ring without spirit ashes. I finished Elden Ring recently and now want to play a more focused Souls game. I've already beaten DS1 & 2 but I skipped 3 since I was a bit bored with the formula at the time of its release and know basically nothing about the game. Whichever one you play first. Since the game reuse a lot of animations/frame data and rely heavily on i-framing through attacks, the one you're not yet used to will inevitably be the hardest. If you've already played ER then the "hardest" one is going to be either DS2 because of its nerfing of i-frames or Bloodborne because of its slightly different dodge animations and timings.

That may be so, but once it was made shipped to a more demanding audience, justified criticism naturally emerged. I remind you that DaS was an unfinished trash heap of a game that performed TERRIBLY on its native platforms and had one of the WORST pc ports in history. Broken sound engine. Utterly retarded NPC AI. GFWL. A thousand other problems. Finding this out, especially after all the hype, soured a lot of people's experience. Was the game fun? Fuck yeah. Did I squeeze over 100 hours of play time out of it? Sure did. Was it objectively a bad product that should never have been sold in its released state? Sadly, it was, and there are very few criticisms of it that aren't more or less substantiated. It's just a very broken game.
>>
>>741763316
Purely in terms of the difficulty of bosses:
>Elden Ring DLC > Elden Ring > Sekiro > Bloodborne DLC > (the bad) Bloodborne chalice dungeons > Dark Souls 3 DLC > Dark Souls 3 > Bloodborne > Dark Souls 2 DLC
POWER GAP
>Dark Souls DLC > Dark Souls > Demon's Souls > Dark Souls 2
DS3 bosses aren't that difficult, but DS3's gameplay is fundamentally less varied than Elden Ring's. Every conceivable build is viable in Elden Ring and there's a wider variety of defensive options. DS3 is basically all about learning the boss's attack timings and rolling good. Roll good, win. Easy.

Perhaps a better way to put it is that Elden Ring is more difficult, but its difficulty is also more flexible - you have more agency with respect to making the game more or less difficult for yourself. Sekiro's difficulty is inflexible. Bloodborne's and DS3's difficulty lies somewhere between these extremes.

Not sure why a bad port on release fucking over a few people somehow has a lingering effect? You do know that games like No Mans Sky which had the funniest, most mocked release in gaming history can now honestly be said to be a decent game after a decade of patching.

I won't forget that the game was a laughing stock, but I can no longer use that as a "criticism" of the final product.

>>741763770
>Perhaps a better way to put it is that Elden Ring is more difficult, but its difficulty is also more flexible
Yeah, that's why I specified my question with Elden Ring bosses without spirit ashes. I'm not sure if the game was balanced with or without their use in mind but some of the bosses have very long and aggressive combo strings, which itself isn't necessarily a problem, but I think the window of opportunity presented to players was sometimes quite small unless you leaned in on stance breaking. I was just curious if lots of bosses in DaS3 had the same level of aggro and pace. It felt a bit exhausting in some cases, especially so for the final boss in ER's DLC.

Thanks for the explanation. I've not played Sekiro either but I have it on my radar. I played these games a lot up until Bloodborne after which I was burned out on the formula. Now that I'm enjoying them again I'm gonna go and catch up with the releases I missed.

Smart money says no. Japs aren't very self-aware, and it was mostly shitposters that even knew of the meme. Randy just hit the nail on the head for the first time ever and only because art imitates life. It would be funny if they did know though

Nah it's just different. I'm not bothered and honestly it's a good thing that the majority of the story is not in the game. Imagine these games having walking sim sections where NPCs spout dialogue or 30 minute cutscenes the game would be absolute trash.
>>
>>741764495
That depends on whether Miyazaki gets feedback from social media and such. Probably not because consuming social media makes you too self aware and brain rotted, that's how you end up with a respected writing making shit like Dustborn.
>>
>>741764948
>Probably not because consuming social media makes you too self aware and brain rotted
Depends on how you handle criticism. If you just believe in what you are doing it won't affect you.
>>
>>741764937
The original Dark Souls wasn't nowhere near as popular as Elden Ring. The game also heavily trolls players, more so than other From games.
>>

Using too much social media means that you are already putting too much weight on what other people say on any topic.
>>
>>741764946

No it's just shit. Write a fucking structured narrative, have towns with LIVING AND SANE NPCs that the player can talk to and build characters and realtionships so the player has some actual emotional investment when he fights LITERALLY WHO, WARRIOR.

>Yeah, that's why I specified my question with Elden Ring bosses without spirit ashes. I'm not sure if the game was balanced with or without their use in mind
You'll get a lot of differing opinions, but I think Elden Ring is very obviously not balanced around spirit ashes. There are a lot of ways to modulate difficulty in FromSoft games, but spirit ashes are the only method that fundamentally alters the gameplay without incurring a compensatory opportunity cost; for example, summoning NPCs or players also alters the gameplay, but it does so at the cost of increasing the boss's HP and stance health. Spirit ashes don't increase either. They're the game's dedicated easy mode, although there's nothing wrong with using them.

>I was just curious if lots of bosses in DaS3 had the same level of aggro and pace
I think ER and DS3 have a similar tempo. Someone actually did an analysis of both game's boss attacks per minute relative to player attack opportunities per minute, and the boss APM is similar. The difference was that the player AOPM was higher in Elden Ring, but there are also more options in Elden Ring. If you don't know how to identify and exploit attack opportunities, it's easy to be overwhelmed.
In contrast, DS3 is much more straightforward. There aren't as many "delayed" attack timings or attacks that you need to exploit with a specific defensive option like jumping, sprint jumping, strafing, etc. Rolling is almost always the correct choice, and so you just roll, attack, roll, attack, and repeat. Even though the boss APM is similar, it's not as overwhelming outside of a few specific fights which vary from player to player in terms of difficulty.

Completely agreed. Contrarianism without taste is the sign of very low IQ associated with aggressivity, which I found predominantly in brown and pajeet. The white with very low IQ is the slop eater, the brown and pajeet with very low IQ is the contrarian.

Both are the same side of the same coin, just one more violent. Both cannot recognize something good or bad by themselves because they're too dumb to recognize the quality of a work. The only difference is the aggressivity: Pajeet and brownoids tends to be the dumb, aggressive contrarians.

That forest is where the Frenzied Flame and Three Fingers developed. It's not too far from the place with Metyr. Midra was a fairly normal guy until he ran into one of those dudes in the forest and then he became a vehicle for chaos. However, Nanaya cursed him to endure, and being that he was a respected nice guy before then, he decided it'd be the best option. Who else curses people in this game? Marika, who also looks like the glimpse of Nanaya we get in the portrait, so it's not farfetched to say that Marika was pretending to be Nanaya and cursed Midra to endure the Frenzied Flame so she'd have less competition and remove something that can hurt the Erdtree.

The Elden Ring. That's why killing him releases the Elden Beast :D
>>
>>741773032
You'll have to elaborate guy-sensei because what about this is disjointed or sloppy:
>Isshin Ashina was once a soldier who just enjoyed fighting and killing
>Kills and fights so good he claims his own piece of Japan
>Meanwhile there's a boy named Kuro who hails from a family with immortal blood
>Owl, a comrade of Isshin's, adopts the player character Wolf / Sekiro and both are in charge of protecting Kuro
>One day Owl and his cohorts betray Kuro's family in an attempt to wield his immortal blood themselves
>They fail thanks in part to Wolf, who in his moment of death, is given Kuro's immortal blood by Kuro himself, Wolf forever feeling indebted to Kuro
>Years later, Genichiro, someone who was taken in by Isshin years ago and came to view Ashina as his own true home
>The (Tokugawa) shogunate is uniting the country, and to do that you need to conquer the country
>Genichiro imprisons Wolf and kidnaps Kuro in an attempt to convince Kuro to help him save Ashina
>Wolf escapes, faces Genichiro but loses his arm
>Some time passes, Wolf recuperates thanks to Isshin's doctor and another former compatriot, a sculptor
>Wolf gets strong and faces off against Genichiro, who loses
>Kuro asks Wolf to aid him in getting rid of his immortal blood, for so long as it exists, men will fight and kill for it
>Wolf agrees
Then depending on your actions the story ends in three different ways
1. You kill Kuro to remove his immortal blood from the world
2. You kill everyone and lose yourself
3. You take Kuro and the Senpou Temple child, who was an attempt to create an artifical Kuro, on a Journey to the Westâ„¢ to find the origins of Kuro's blood and immortality

Literally none of this is from youtube. This is all from playing the game.

None of that is a defense or explanatory. Every culture has its own iconography you. Everyone knows the western style dragon but you can’t just slap a random dragon at the end of GTA 6 that is never once referenced by anyone in the game or ever referenced again after it’s intro cutscene and say
>well rockstar is a western studio the dragon iconography is part of western tradition
No one is asking how the dragon came to be depicted, they are asking why is it fucking there. The straw giant has nothing to do with anything

Nanaya is the manifestation of Shiki's fear of becoming a rape killer. He's a fragment of Shiki's mind given form as a living nightmare. He's never shown to have the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception as when Shiki was trained to be a killer he didn't have them.
In Melty Blood, Nanaya doesn't have any Mystic Eyes moves as far as I remember.
>>
>>741776336
Sekiro does do more than that. It has the Senpou Temple to explore Buddhism in the setting more. Buddhism has a long history in Japan too, many Buddhist beliefs are intertwined with Shinto ones. Considering the game is set in fucking Japan, I don't see how using or exploring any of these mythologies is confusing, especially when the entire context of going to Fountainhead is trying to figure out how to end an immortality curse. That's why it uses sacred iconography, because you're going to the realm of the gods.

NTA, but it depends on what Nanaya we're talking about. Nanaya awakening within Tohno is stronger than normal Tohno. You get Mystic Eyes + Nanaya Assassination arts. Nanaya incarnated by TATARI (as seen in Melty Blood) does not have the Mystic Eyes and is probably weaker due to that.

The "halo" effect comes from the temporal anti-aliasing solution that Fromsoft uses. It's very primitive at this point. You see it much more clearly if you have water in the background, probably something related to the screen space reflections used for the water surface.
