>was supposed to be the next big thing
>nobody cared when it was finally released
what happened?

Was too long in the oven
>>
oops we forgot to make the levels story and cutscenes
>>
I was gonna post in the other thread you made but didn't. Now I will.
Other than its "alternative" at best playstyle and generally off-putting graphical style, it just didn't have worthwhile content.
I've owned this game for fucking years and years and it was just a modded sandbox game for so long, no meat to it. Then it gets a "campaign" that is the most barebones modded half life level type shit ever. No voice acting or cutscenes. Felt extremely cheap.

The best you can feasibly get out of this game is like 2 - 5 hours of a mods playground, then you shelf it forever.

i remember following their dev diary from 2013 onwards. was actually how i knew about idubbbz back then (he was unironically an "Overgrowth youtuber" before he became the edgy guy who says nigger)

When you're making a game, there's certain ingredients you need. Like story, art, music, voice acting, maybe a few cutscenes in there, lore.
They forgot to add that. Can't forget to add that.

They baitpisted engine tech for 20 years, and even remade the engine (worse), and then released it without a game.
Same thing happened to Cortex Command.
It's a bloody shame.

dev casually offered refunds to chuds during gamergate. he refunded one person who posted receipts so he had to refund everyone who applied or open himself to lawsuits. he went broke because of this basically IIRC
>>

The industry caught up and all that fancy animation tech stopped being impressive
>>

Bullshit. Wolfire ganes (not just one guy) made a lot of money on this scam, and then they made Humble Bubdle and sold it for gorillions.

As it turns out, you can have genius programmers iterate on making the best most complex gameplay systems on a custom engine with the best programming practices but at the end of the day the most important thing about a game is everything else except gameplay.
>>
They spent a ton of time programming the procedural animation and things like blood, and then didn’t have the basics of an interesting gameplay underneath it all. Even the last of a campaign would be semiforgivable if the gameplay was solid, but it really isn’t. Combat is just button mashing.

>hey guys I know some of you don't like the animal characters
>I swear I decided to go with anthro designs because the violence was just TOO realistic with humans
>btw I'm actually just a furry lol

Who did he think he was fooling?

i remember when this finally released.
the level design and story was so bad.
>>
Is this the superior limb based combat meme game?
>>
Maybe that it took like 15 years in development. It was "out" for like 5 years too, so it had a complete life cycle of devs and modders making shit for it, then it came out and tons of old mods and levels no longer worked, and the creators no longer cared about the game, so it has basically nothing but the main game and a very small handful of content.
