SteamOS has a built-in system level FSR upscaler that scales any resolution to 4K. the steam deck for instance can scale any game to 4K from 720p with negligible performance loss; all off 15w of tdp. all of the reviews I’ve seen are using the in-game FSR options to scale to 4K.
>system levelSo all UI in games will look like shit?
>>741793082No.
>>741793176So how does the system level FSR distinguish UI with 3D in game rendering?
we're reaching cope levels beyond human understanding
How well will it scale GTA VI?
>the power of the cell
>>741793004But why would anyone use FSR, it sucks massive ass and blurs everything?
>>741793004If it's a generic upscaler that works regardless of game, then it's FSR1 which looks like shit.In-game FSR will be FSR 2/3 which looks slightly less shit, with FSR4 apparently coming soon. But either way the SM is wildly overpriced and wildly underpowered, so who cares.
>>741793004 So can my TV. It doesn't look good
>>741793004ai post
>>741793282The ui is scaled as well and looks fine. the entire game render resolution is scaled by SteamOS including the ui >>741796494it is valve’s custom FSR1 that scales on the steam deck. it works better on their official dock as opposed to generic usbc dock, leading some to believe the scaling algorithm is hardware accelerated by the dock, but no documentation exists to support that other than straight performance. in a way, I made this thread because when the steam machine reviews came, I was hoping df or ltt would review and discuss steamos’ system level scaling, but instead they’re all normie idiots and just discussed in game fsr like ultra performance as if current SteamOS and steam deck users careI wanted to know how valve achieved 4K 60 through their system level scaler. guess I gotta wait for actual nerds to buy the thing and let me know
>>741798406your tv doesn’t have a kernel access scaler from the gpu
>>741793004Still not worth it $1500, mate. It might not be Valve's fault, but the console is DoA. And I really wanted it to succeed.
>>741799998I didn’t say it was worth it. honestly, I was just hoping to see a single One (1) review show how SteamOS scales to 4K 60 with the system level scaler. and I still havent
>>741794010Kek
>>741795805Indeed, it gives you insane performance boost but it also looks so fucking bad I'd rather just not play the game at all if it means choosing between 30 fps or FSR
>>741795805because valve has a custom version of FSR1 that is genuinely excellent on the steam deck. if you dock a steam deck and try it out, the quality is it apparent and much better than amd’s five year old stock fsr1. I was hoping to see if and or how valve adapted it for steam machine’s rdna3 And i still haven’t. professional tech journalists can’t comprehend using the Scaling slider
This shit works just long enough to trick people looking at a graph. We've got people pretending the PS5 is running GOW at 4k
>>741800690>FSR1 that is genuinely excellent on the steam deckNah, FSR on steam deck is complete shit.
>>741801215like the in game fsr or quick access fsr?
>>741793004>scale any game to 4K from 720p with negligible performance losI mean, is this the new meme? Scaling os literally automatic and it's done by the tv when adjusting any arbitrary resolution to the output resolution, in this retard case, 4K.We should be talking about upscaling quality, which FSR does poorly. Just use DLSS
>>741802869quick access fsr
>fsr as a selling point
>>741803567nah. SteamOS has linear and pixel scaling, like you’ve described, which TVs and consoles do. it also has a fsr1 scaling option built right into the quick access menu. this uses kernel level access to the pixels straight off the gpu, unlike your tv’s linear filtering. I was hoping to see if steam machine reviews would discuss this. they have not. >>741803717fair enough. I think it’s great but the shimmer can be a bit much depending on the game. HENCE WHY I WANTED TO SEE IT DISCUSSED IN THE STEAM MACHINE REVIEWS
>>741796494>with FSR4 apparently coming soon.youtubers have been saying that for over a year>FSR4 is here!>Look inside>It's optiscaler>FSR4 is here but only for this linux>Look inside>It's optiscaler>FSR4 is here for real this time>It's still optiscaler
