Don't get me wrong. Japanese writing has its own problems with overusing tropes a lot, but that can be amended and more often than not is in some way by fleshing out characters and making them more than cardboard cutouts.

You can't fix being so insincere and uninvested in what you're writing that you make everything a lameass joke that isn't even fucking funny like every major piece of Western media has for the past decade and a half.
