The single, sole benefit of a GKC is you can resell it. You have no "independence" to exert because it's identical to the same "independence" you have with a digital copy I.e. none. You rely on Nintendo's servers to download it, you can't install it offline, and you can only download the latest version of the game. Both have the same "Once you have them installed you can play them offline indefinitely" thing but that's about it.
