>two dozen N64 control-tridents
>enough boxes and titles to fill a gamestop
twenty years ago, child me might've been wow'd beyond words. right now all i can see is the goodest possible goy, the corpo-salesmans' favourite mark.
there's thousands of dollars of vidya in there, a life's work in collecting. a life's work spent on hobby, that could've done anything else for anyone he cared about. could've built a garden, could've took their kids to didneyworl, could've done anything or gone anywhere. instead just a shrine to bing-bing wahoo. he would've got just as much fun, just as much gratification out of his hobby, if he didn't build a fucking gamestop in his basement
in this corporate hellscape the most rebellious thing you could do is to stop buying stuff. don't be a consoomer, don't spend money. threads like this exist for marketing shills to brainwash people into thinking that spending money on hobby is the only measure of trve fandom.

My brother recently got divorced and the lawyers actually factored the value of his Steam account into the equation when dividing everything up. Not sure how they would've split it if he had to though.

No game released in the last 6 years is physical media as it REQUIRES an install, the disc itself is simply a validation key.
They stopped being on-disc about half way through gen 7, so like 2017 or so.

>>
>>741801972
It doesn't because with a GKC you gain a bunch of restrictions on a digital copy. You actually get more benefits from a digital/CIAB release than you do a GKC. The single, sole benefit of a GKC is you can resell it. If you aren't going to sell the GKC then there's no reason to buy it over a digital copy as the digital copy will net you significantly more benefits like
>Don't have a cartridge taking up space in your system to play it.
>Can just redownload it because it's tied to your account, not a cartridge that acts as a gatekeeper.
>Have to lose your account which is much harder than losing the cartridge or having it break.
>Allows you to play actual physical games you own that are on the cartridge in addition to it.
I genuinely can't believe people defend GKCs and pretend they're better than CIAB releases when they're both garbage, it's just that the GKC is doing the CIAB except you can sell it.
>>
>>741802428
here's a counterpoint
you don't actually control the console, it's running a proprietary os you're not an admin of
even a game key card has a degree of separation and gives you some ability to exert independence on consoles
console digital on the other hand is completely fucked, you have zero control whatsoever, they dictate everything
>>
>>741802642
>even a game key card has a degree of separation and gives you some ability to exert independence on consoles
The GKC has to phone to Nintendo to get access to it and banned systems can't even use them even though physical copies can work on banned accounts because it loses access to the eShop and all Nintendo services. You have no "independence" to exert because it's identical to the same "independence" you have with a digital copy I.e. none. You rely on Nintendo's servers to download it, you can't install it offline, and you can only download the latest version of the game. Both have the same "Once you have them installed you can play them offline indefinitely" thing but that's about it.
>>
>>741800295
This.
I was a big hold out on consoles despite having a good PC specifically because of physical media. Especially for genres/games I really like. But then the majority of them started to just be CD keys in a box/on a disc. Not "really" the game on the disc. Thats when I moved almost entirely to steam.

No. Right of first sale was barely adequate at papering over the problems caused by software copyright giving companies the ability to sell licenses rather than software, and the DMCA gave companies the poorly worded privilege to fuck you over even when just doing normal things with the software you legitimately purchased (and Jap copyright law is another level of fucked up).
This paper has been rudely stripped with modern games relying on online authentication, additional company hosted services and patching to be playable even with a disc.
The problem is no longer with the token/download dichotomy, the problem is with software copyright and the DMCA being massive garbage fires and government favoritism towards short-sighted companies that were bad at selling products.
>>741801972
The problem will always be with consoles being DRM machines you have no control over. On a device you own, if you have the files, then you have all the ownership that matters.
The only ostensible benefit of a GKC is reselling, which I will now rephrase as "reselling Vtuber bathwater, because it was an impulse purchase you could not afford".
Just pirate, it is better for everyone than reselling games.

Do you have a tutorial or some resources to see how you did this? After searching the image I found your reply in a thread from a week or two ago about NFC cards and some kind of wifi reader that uses the card to launch the game. But I'm a tech retard, so at a base level post on /v/, thats above me.
But they are very cool.

/v/ is simultaneously a board that bemoans about the jews and how much the gaming industry is imploding yet is full of people who not only hate physical media but want you to buy anything, everything, currency if possible on a digital platform.

physical media doesn't do shit if it's completely fucking encrypted and requires extremely limiting drm to even function
the only real use of physical is obsessing and speculating about its value, it's completely dogshit otherwise

>buy drm but on a plastic disc
