More like "what" and that is quite simply: Capitalism itself. It is inherently an irrationally acting force.

Artificial scarcity is in the interest of it. It's systematic. Especially once a market has consolidated enough.

"Competition/Free market leads to better products" is just not a guarantee, the driving factor is profit. A better product costs an initial investment, so is not desirable. Artificial scarcity however? Now THAT won't cost you a dime and allows you to make all the money. Same goes with Shrinkflation (lower volume, same price) and Skimpflation (decreased quality, same price).

Naturally the idea to maximize profits at all times ALSO means you are not allowed to miss out on any trend. Everyone knows AI is a massive bubble that will go tits up, but everyone hopes that they will manage to get out before that bubble bursts. Not participating in that bubble means not maximizing profits, which is the anti-thesis to capitalism.

Hell, a BIG reason China is picking up Steam so much is BECAUSE they are not (as much) "profit first" oriented, which in long term allows higher quality products at competing prices. (at least as of this point, the whole "subsidy" shit with China is pure cope... the West uses the same subsidy tactics).

Not to say we need Communism now... but maybe the governments should start bringing the anti-trust hammer down again and voters should stop falling for "Red Scare" tactics which corrupt elites use to smear candidates that want to reign these companies in. Essentially the government needs to set price, supply and quality baselines which private corpos need to match and not just allow it to be entirely free floating. If corpos can't match those the government will get involved, but if they can the gov. will stay hands off.

Look at how Steam acts compared to stock traded companies. Look at how Aldi operates compared to stock traded stores chains. The difference is day and night.

As always the leftists want to increase state power to fix the programs caused by the state. It's entirely the government's fault that everything ends up a publicly traded company beholden to shareholders. Get rid of estate taxes and let companies remain private and you'll see far more competition and better products.

Correct. But a better product is not necessarily what people want, people may prefer a cheaper product or a more trendy product. The profit incentive is just how the market allocates resources to best meet demand.

Most games on my wishlist are still around 60 though? I don't think this will have as much of an impact as you think it will.

I've been hoarding as an escape from my miserable life, so I have enough stuff to play until I'm 80. It doesn't bother me much

Nvidia gamers so 99% of PC gamers are responsible for this. We AMD gamers told you decades ago to drop the Nvidia dick sucking. Look at you now. Death is your only recourse.
