It's not hard but I'm not a gamedev nor in the position to do what I'm about to write. But a live-service game can survive easily if they front-load a bunch of obtainable content/items on game launch by playing the game with some mtx. However, each update should include some mtx while the main focus is on the free playable content. If your game dies well the simple answer is despite giving the players more free-to-play content and not mtx they simply didn't care enough to support your game.
Which then leads to gamers deserving what they get.

I don't play team deathmatch, have a hard set role or fuck around waiting for a health pickup. The only thing close is that they are shooters with unique character abilities.
Every aspect of play, movement, mode. It's all so different that I can only assume those who try the "why aren't you playing rivals" line are actually braindead.

the matchmaker will consistently give you retarded players that don't even know what game they booted up, so this combined with the new urn makes for a great experience. they obviously didn't want the urn being an insta boost of power for a better team so they coded in a king of the hill mechanic, praying it will stall or prevent it. but all it did was now give the better team the urn AND kills, with free roam of the map during respawns. what they hoped would be more casual friendly has yielded completely the opposite result.
