>Metroid Dread and Prime 4 long considered "never ever" holy grails by the fanbase>They actually get announced officially >After years of buildup they finally get released, to little fanfare>Already forgottenWhy did it fail?
Dread is the best-selling Metroid game.Prime 1 & 3 have individually outsold Prime 4, and Prime 2 did also if you include the Trilogy release in its numbers.Prime 4 is a shitty game that hasn't even shown up in Nintendo's financial reports as a million-seller.
>>741802546WTF are you talking about? Dread was great
the meta to make your game popular and respected is to fill it with zanzibart lore for youtubers and secondies. it's why hollow knight is still talked about.
>>741802546imo Dread is a great game that was worth the wait, I hope MercurySteam is working on another 2D Metroid. As for Prime 4, they kinda blew it, just a really disappointing showing from Retro. I still can't get over Mackenzie.
>>741804529Allegedly the final game was largely similar to the Namco build and Retro tried to clean it up.
>>741804713Old Retro could have made over 10 Prime games in the time it took them to clean up this one, since allegedly Prime 2 was only 30% finished 3 months before release.I can only imagine that there had to have been large consultant team levels of back and forth for every decision.
>>741802546I wanted a remake of Super Metroid, fuck Dread, fuck Prime 4. Just give me my remake.
>>741802546Metroid has never been the biggest seller and, like most singleplayer nintendo games, they don't get infinite updates for the GaaS treatment. They came out, dread did better than expected, prime did worse and now we move on.
Dread is the best selling game in the series, and was pretty damn great. Prime 4 was an absolute mess, though.
>>741805517It's a mix of bureaucracy and the difference in complexity for an HD game. You can't just make an asset, texture it, and put it in the game in an hour like you used to. You can't just type up some weird biology tidbit without being approved by HQ and the brand manager. Shit is even more restrictive when you're working on what is one of the most expensive games Nintendo has ever produced.
That's how it is in movies, books and other forms of entertainment too.
