As a Millennial/Zoomer I actually love 13 but despise its late-game content.

Graphically speaking, the game is ahead of its time by at least a decade. Mechanically, It's behind a decade.
It would have been a lot better if it was actually turn based, but the gameplay itself was not the worst part about it, at least once you gave it a chance and understood how it worked.

But the grinding. Trying to get gil. Trying to max everything. That's the fucking worst thing about 13. Toriyama is such a fucking retarded faggot. I hate his ass with passion for not having the balls to go all the way with it.

there's been a growing trend of people looking back at ff13 fondly in retrospect, a major contributing factor is people who were kids/teens during 2009-2015 having the ff13 series be their first final fantasy game or even their first JRPG.

yeah XIII-2 had way better late game content in that regard, a lot of the best gear came from boss drops or were craftable using 1-2 material per item. Monster grinding was a real bitch though, I have the archetypal steppe theme burned into my mind from the amount of time i spent looking for potent essences and crystals. Wish the original XIII let you revisit some areas cause the game is beautiful but it simply railroads you to the next area with no hope of revisiting without a 2nd playthrough, i'll probably just get a hardmode mod and a freecam mod next time I run through it.
