Here's the big picture going on with the Steam Machine.... my little rant.First off, being fair, where Valve loses, is in the timing of all this, with the Hyper-inflated RAM prices coming at a time when Valve is trying to break into this console market (regardless of what the marketing material says, the whole point of tiny boxes is for the convivence of them).. An inflation that Sony dodged earlier with the PS5 and PS5 Pro. Keep in mind the PS5s have been on the market before the crash, they bought all their hardware beforehand.....AS WELL, they still practice at selling their hardware at a loss, a typical business tactic they've used since the beginning of consoles...... Valve missed that chance.... and one could 'theorize' that certain RAM manufacturers simply don't like Valve and Gabe on principle, which is why they fucked them on wholesale prices... but that's another topic...... basically if you look at the big picture, the cost of the Steam Machine is the NEW NORM in Console pricing. Consider that IF the PS5 was manufactured TODAY, (or wait for the PS6) and released the same time as the Steam Machine, the MSRP would be the same. *if they didn't suck and swallow the RAM manufactures for wholesale prices and sold their console at a loss; yes, the prices would be the same. Valve is just showing the scary future of gaming, that no Console kiddie is willing to accept right now... but they're going to have to, after the PS5 era ends.
>>741817332Part 2---So then it comes down to rationalizing buying one of these.... Console Kids could jerk themselves off on how awesome the PS5 is in comparing hardware and performance, and I wouldn't argue for or against it. But again, all you kids are doing is standing on a pedestal of that convenient truth of Sony luckily finding themselves in a better position before RAM-inflation.... but when that luck runs out? Where would that put the PS5.. or even the PS6?.... and their fanboys..... (Answer, again paying the same price as a Steam Machine)---After that it becomes an issue of their services, while Sony-fanboys massage their prostates with how cheaper and efficient their console is.... they don't quite understand that the software they have isn't theirs to begin with. That after a while Sony apparently has the right to take games away from your if you're not playing them for a long time. To be honest, I'm haven't been a Sony consumer since the PS3 days, but often hearing stories of various policy changes that put your right to ownership at risk all the time... doesn't make me want to buy into Sony for this or the next generation.... especially since a lack of "backward compatibility" is a sore subject for old time Sony users like myself.... and entire library of PS1/2/3 games and I can't use them on a PS4 or 5?... Bullshit......as for Steam... I mean, come on... I have 300+ games in my library, and I can't see the Steam Machine having too much problems running 99% of them... as well as it's been said, that the hardware is 'modest' to begin with, proving this is for casual PC players pretending to be console kiddie for easy living room antics.... instead of basement dwelling tech-heads who need to see the pores of Panam's booty as one plays CP77 at max settings...----
>>741817357ConclusonIn conclusion, it's easy to justify taking a $400-500 loss on one's typical Console spending.... when you can have easier access to your Steam library anywhere in your house... and just because you think the PS5 is better, doesn't make you right... most kids laughing at the benchmarks aren't even real tech-heads to make that distinction on their own... because they don't even understand that the TV they use always bottlenecks the hardware they have.... yeah, you have a PS5 pro? Sure, you're the coolest kid on the block, you're parents are proud... but on a cheap shit Roku TV from Wal-Mart for $500?.... and you're going to bitch about the Steam Machines sucking, when you're pretty much gimped on refresh rates on your TV anyways?...what are you proving?.... after all is said and done,.. the last thing to worry about is 'belief'... You think people will ignore Gabe's Yacht for a second and say to themselves that buying and supporting the Steam Machine means better innovations down the line?... That perhaps, if ever, the RAM market balances out, that the next version is better?...
Anon, i will just repost another one of my posts about it:"i can write a long post but it matters little. before you seek validation or opinions from 4chan first learn about the basics: every board has different groups of people who will share some opinion and fight the rest. this conflicts is what drives boards. Every single one of the top boards has huge constantly infighting groups./g/ is probably the best board for technical knowledge and the only real place to talk about this, but it too has some groups. its not like /v/ which is deffined by the Nintendoids vs Soicucks vs ( a small but vocal ) xbox hopers/copers vs stemies, but /g/ is still an Apple vs windows vs linux vs ai lovers vs ai haters....You have to take your own decision my man.as for me:-i already have some money in my steam account-i cannot find a cheaper alternative on my local market ( pricing is global which is good for some regions )-it will play all games i play at max fps- i was going to but the controller anyway-at most i am paying 50 euro for the valve logo"the tl dr is to just think with your head, and honestly not listen to /v/. go to /g/ for a more mature conversation. even /g/ is shit though - use your brain.
