>Greater than 70% of PCs are weaker than the base PS5
kek so much for the """Master"""" race

I mean yeah most people are 3rd world

Not surprising since it's only natural that Steam is installed in some potato machines, right? If anything I'm impressed 30% of PCs are stronger than that.

And anyways, who cares? With $1000 you can build something infinitely better than the Steam Machine, and guess what, it can be upgradable, which the Steam Machine isn't.

Good thing I always log into my 11 year old 1060 rig when polled for the hardware survey
>>
If they aimed for 80% I could still respect them for fucking people

>steam machine is better than your grandmother's computer that only has bejeweled installed

You won Gabe.
>>
But what if you take Chinese and Russian Steam users out of the equation?
>>
>>741827732
That would obliterate 90% of steam's userbase
>>
>>741827459
Most computers using steam come from cybercafes in Asia.
>>
>>741827350
I sure hope nobody is trying to fudge the numbers by including third world shithole PCs built 20 years ago in this here statistic about a product meant to be sold in the first world at roughly twice what it's actually worth :^)
>>
>>741827776
And obviously they're not going to buy the gabeslop.
>>
>>741827617
No, today.
>>
>>741827350
Even a mid range pc is stronger and infinitely more useful than any console.
>>
>>741827459
Upgradability for PC is kinda stupid. My "upgrade" every 4-5 years end up being everything. I may keep the Case, PSU and Monitor. But at some point I change that too.
This is not an upgrade, that's a whole new PC.
Issue is that the Machine is dated, at 1000 is way too expensive. But I doubt you can build anything good for less than that. Only 16GB is $400, add storage and it already get close to $1000.
A decent PC now costs at least 2000 dollars. You can't cheap out on Motherboard because that will bite you in the ass later on.
The convenience of the Steam Machine and it's scarcity is what will give it's value. I just hope it doesn't take too long for the price cut.

it's embarrassing seeing how the talking points shifted for the steam machine.
we went from
>cheap entry point and performance floor
to
>boutique micro device for apple fags
building system from decade old parts with a xeon processor is more respectable than buying this over priced piece of shit
>>
>>741827350
Greater than 70% of consoles are weaker than the base PS5. Get better bait
>>
>>741828490
That just means you don't know how to build PCs.

When building a PC you should understand the platform you're building on (AM4? AM5? Will you wait for AM6?). Let's say you wait for AM6 release and go for that. You can get a high end CPU right off the bat and never need to upgrade it. Then you can get a mid GPU so that you can upgrade to a high end one later.

You can upgrade your storage, you can add RAM sticks later down the line.

You probably won't ever need to upgrade the MOBO. You won't need to upgrade the PSU.

The Steam Machine for $1000 only gets you 512GB of storage by the way and you can't upgrade it.
>>
>>741827350
Yes. And these 70% will probably ignore the Steam Machine and still use Steam because they're not being forced to buy it.
>>
>>741828490
I upgraded my RAM, GPU, PSU and replaced my MOBO over the years. The only reason I haven't upgraded my CPU is because i fell for the Intel meme and I'm never doing that again. Next time I'll go for the best consumer grade AMD CPU and build my PC from there.
>>
>>741827350
Is it cheaper than 70% of PC's gamers have at home? No? So fuck off.
>>
>>741827424
FPBP. It's better than what 70% of PC gamers have at home, but it's not better than what even 15% of AMERICANS have at home.
>>
>>741827350
>Greater than 70% of PCs
Quote from company that couldn't detect RX 9000 series video cards for over a year.
They put zero effort into making sure the Steam Hardware Survey is accurate and current.
Garbage in, garbage out.
In addition, the "70% of PC gamers" sounds like a stupid metric. A better metric would be "PC gamers who bought more than 3 games in last year" Valve want this device to promote the store.
>>
The interesting thing about it isn't the hardware, it's that normies who see this on Steam and buy it will be gaming on Linux. I mean Valve already did that with the deck but this is the next step, for people who were never going to be interested in buying a portable.
This is how you get the buzz going to the point where regular people start planning their builds around Linux or looking for Linux-based prebuilts because they heard the Steam Machine uses it and their friend with one likes theirs.
>>
>a PC built in 2026 using recent components is better than the older PCs the majority of people are using
wow truly gaming journalism has peaked, what a story

>How to upgrade a PC according to /v/:
>First, buy a socket that doesn’t exist
>fit it with a CPU and don’t upgrade it
>buy a GPU you don’t want
>buy another GPU
>buy storage you don’t want
>buy more storage
>don’t get enough ram
>get more when old micron stock is gone and people are scrabbling in the dirt for ddr2
>then don’t upgrade anything

If component prices do magically come down, valve will cut the price and start doing sales again.
But prices sure ain't coming down in the foreseeable future.
