The 3060 was reamed for having shit price to performance at launch FIVE YEARS AGO.
It has only been 'redeemed' in recent years for having 12gb of VRam and the steam machine doesn't even have that!

>>
>>741841068
Steam hardware survey is by its nature(which is assuredly what they're looking at when they say "pc gamers"), dictated only by the people who actually allow it(many power machines are probably more tech-savvy and turn it down.) But give it a look. The average of most stuff is pretty small.
The only thing that surprises me is that 6 core instead of 4 is the majority for CPUs. 16gb of ram is majority, but doesn't specify what generation. Almost 2/3rd of the survey has 1tb of disk space or less(a huge majority 500gb or less.) More than half on 1080p displays.
By /v/'s bloated standards, it's pretty grim. With so much non-standard hardware, I don't know if it qualifies as better than a full 70%, but the number probably isn't that far off if not.

To be fair, OP does specifically call out /v/ while the article mentions all pc gamers. While /v/ is a subgroup of all pc gamers, /v/ as a whole might be different from the average.
To go back to the women's height average, it would be like saying that because the average height is 5'4", the average height of japanese women is also 5'4", which it isn't, it's actually 5'2".

>Why the Argument is Logically Consistent
>The Core Contradiction: You cannot logically dismiss Steam Hardware Survey data as being "inflated or skewed by low-end PC users in developing regions" while simultaneously celebrating Steam Charts player counts for a game without acknowledging that those same exact regions are inflating those player numbers.
>The Shared Dataset: Both metrics pull from the exact same global user base. If an influx of users from a specific region skews the hardware averages downward (e.g., higher numbers of older GPUs or CPUs), they will inevitably skew concurrent player counts upward for the specific free-to-play or regionally popular games they are playing.

Secondly, hardware surveys are voluntary information sharing, you don't have to participate in them, unlike ccu.
Thirdly, it's actually pretty easy to see whether player numbers are inflated by third worlders with review languages serving as a decent way of segregating.
Fourthly, your apparent unprompted seething at the steam chart numbers make me question your motivations about this whole discussion and I'm certainly curious what your answer to that curiosity will be.

Valve games and other games that drop market items like Banana actually do have massively inflated playercounts. Not even just because of thirdies but because of bots.
TF2's real player count is around 11,000
CS2's playercount excluding bots and Russians is probably like 50k
If a game is pay to play and doesn't have market items the player count is likely made up of real westerners.

what valve isn't telling you is that is caused by a majority of indians suddenly being able to connect to the internet as part of their governments push to be the first ai state. ewaste like complete waste laptops with superglued components is also ending up in specific places because china and others don't want to be a dumping ground. on top of that, china cracked down on vpn usage resulting china usage suddenly plummeting to half it originally was and pushing average reported pc specs lower. valve has been twisting the narrative to suit their means for awhile now. the steam dronies have lost their ability to think because of years of being treated well. its the same thing with apple after tim cook took over. the brand loyalty is insane.

Valve claims they built it based on spec surveys of what was the most commonly used GPU/CPU and other parts in people's PC's. 70% of PC gamers might have weak ass gaming PC's, but there is no reason to buy a Steam Machine if it matches what is already in your PC. If anything I would think the Steam Machine is marketed towards console players who want to game on Steam, but either can't afford a gaming PC, or don't have one. The thing that is retarded about that is the Steam Machine is weaker than a PS5, and a PS5 Pro blows it out of the water.

If you have an XSX or a PS5 then it's a waste of $1,100 to even buy the damn thing. It's basically double the price of a console. You might as well spend $600-$700 and get a PS5/XSX, or spend a bit more and get a PS5 Pro. I still can't get over the fact that they are charging basically $1,100 for it, and it doesn't even beat out the PS5. Absolute waste of money for console players.

it's quite literally a meaningless statistic

i own a surface pro and a steam deck. i feel like im the target audience for this thing & have been saving up for it but for the price it seems like it'd just be better to buy a laptop or pc.
idgaf about AAA sloppa for the most part but i wanna play ac8 when it comes out
>>
>>741838684
Yes now I'm going to switch to overpriced steam machine because it's 10% faster than my rig /s
>>
>>741838684
It's fucking Valve. They have all the data, specs from every Steam user. If you have something better than you're clearly in the 30% group.

our target audience is poor, hasn't bought a new PC in years and is probably using a laptop.
surely they will buy a new PC right now when the hardware is most overpriced.

Third worlders shouldn't count as data points, because they can't afford a 1k box anyway.

The steam hardware survey is not representative, it's just as flawed as saying women are 50% of gamers because they play on their phones.
There's a large number of people who have a basic laptop and use it to play basic, free to play games which skews the numbers.

Anyone actually spending money on games i.e. enthusiasts, already has a better PC, because it's not hard to beat the Steam Machine's performance.
I don't even have top end hardware, just my old AM4 platform - 5700X, 32GB DDR4, 9060XT 16GB and it's still more powerful than the Steam Machine.
The machine was already obsolete when they announced it and it ended up being even worse than expected (the CPU is very underpowered), it ships with single-channel memory etc.
>>
i hope this shit is so unpopular that they're forced to make HL3 to recover their destroyed reputation
>>
>>741849989
Are they even capable of making a new game at this point?
>>
>>741838684
>Steam Machine is better than what 70% of PC gamers have at home
yeah and that statistic is coming from majority of absolute poverty thirdies from hardware survey statistics that would have to work tens of years to afford a single brand new goy machine
just take that L Valve, work on windows free ecosystem and release HL3
