The biggest upgrade I'm seeing over the Engage animations is that there isn't as many effects on screen during the battle. Engage had some really cool animations, but everything resulted in a big color explosion that sometimes made it hard to see what was going on. Even a character doing nothing but dodging resulted in a big flashy effect iirc.FW has the weapons leaving a trail when swung and a hitspark burst. That's all you need.
