The problem is much more so that everything feels capable of or pressured to have voice acting now even when there's really no point to it or it's clearly not playing to the strengths of the work, so you get slop voicework to fill the gaps where text would have previously done the job.
>>741840772They're either spending way too much money on one or two big names and don't have enough quality actors to do the rest of the game, story revisions requiring VAs to come back and do rushed performances, nepotism in the VA industry where roles are given not necessarily based on talent, the talented VA cost too much money to hire, sometimes they have VAs come in and have no direction at all for the lines they're giving. All sorts of things can lead to a game having worse performances in modern times. Makes you kind of miss the era where games didn't take themselves so seriously and they could have absolutely terrible voice acting and nobody cared so long the game was fun.
There are so many bad voice directors these days allowed to torch entire projects with their lack of effort.

Same with Metal Gear Solid. Voice performances and actors have refined their craft in ways normalfags can barely comprehend and deliver performances that put the old shit to shame in all measurable respects, and shit is moving on.
