The problem is that it's a bad idea in general.
How about either spending less money on a laptop that also will emulate most things up to ps2 era (even phones do) and plays pixel slop or spending more and get a real PC.
This is like a mock sports car with 60 horse power, it's almost as hard to drive and doesn't have a truck but you still get honked to death when trying to overtake a semi since you are stalling the fast lane.
>>
>>741846984
It was a good idea when the pc market wasn't completely fucked by ai.
>>
>>741847069
It would be allright at 599 but if it was at 599 that would mean I'd get a decent gaming rig for 1.5k
It would still be a bad idea to not get the 1.5k gaming rig instead, it just wouldn't be retarded.

lel
lelemo even.
Regardless of what happens to AI, we are NEVER going back to pre-AI prices, even if they drop prices by 20~30%, it pails in comparison to the 300~400% hikes. Manufacturing companies have zero incentive to accommodate you, especially when theres enough retards who will pay up for the high prices to cover the loss of your sale tenfold.

You have no choice anymore. its over. You voted for this.

>DIY kit with rando cheap parts from Silverstone
vs
>works out of the box, plug it in and you're using Steam

I'm not building my own cube machine from a fly-by-night company. I'll just build a regular PC if I'm going to be hassled.
The whole appeal of the machine is it's a quiet little cube that you don't have to fuck with. Just build a fucking real PC that's even better than that pile of android shit if you're going to order loose parts.
>>
>>741846525
>our response?
Good, keep it up. Competition is good for the consumer.

The only part in that build from Silverstone is the case, and that's the only part that is a guaranteed quality. Don't blame Silverstone for other stuff that might suck.

Since the steam machine is such a fucking disaster they should just reconfigure it as a DIY ITX shell. Make it large enough to accommodate a full size gpu, take out the ram, storage and the APU. There is actually a market for an ITX case with a chunky cpu cooler that is quiet and doesnt overheat

They should also strip down the steam frame, remove the ram and storage then just make a cheap wired variant for sim dads.

The products as they are have no use case.

God dammit why did they pick this chip when there are better mobile one.
>>
>>741873871
Let's say you have enough money to buy either that or the steam machine. You get this money just given to you, and you need to use it to buy one of these. You get to keep your current pc by the way, this isn't gonna have to be your only gaming device but you're not gonna be able to sell it or any components so scalping isn't a factor.

Which do you pick? For me it's a really easy choice.
>>
>>741846525
Isn't this what Valve intended though?
>>
>>741874292
Yes but it depends if the install steamOS on it. Doesn't really matter cause they will end up using steam.
>>
>>741874292
>tutorial on how to install SteamOS included
>resuregence of people building mid-spec rigs, forcing that as the new standard
Valve won. Even if they sell a single GabenCube, they won.
>>
>>741874206
They could get it cheaper from AMD.
>>
>>741846525
This is missing a lot of features

No HDMI CEC means no buy regardless of the deal though
>>
>>741874210
Saar I will boughting the steam machine. Buying less is more.
>>
>>741846984
You are missing the point of the Steam Machine (and the third party clones that hopefully spawn from it)
It's meant for the livingroom, for convenience and to be part of your TV setup.
tl;dr it's meant to finally bring PC into the livingroom in a way that isn't cluttered, clumsy, plain ugly or annoying.

Personally, I think it will achieve this, but then again I don't play consoles, I don't need a steam machine, I don't even have a TV (by choice).
I think a lot of people are missing the function of the Steam Machine, thinking it solely a smol PC.

All in all, this is cool, and I wish it great success. I ain't buying one though

There was no reason for them to go with the U chips which are low power, they could have gone with this https://www.amd.com/en/products/processors/laptop/ryzen/7000-series/amd-ryzen-7-7735hs.html

It shows how little effort valve is putting in this if some out of nowhere shop can build you a better equivalent this easily. It shows how little valve respects its user (not surprising from a company selling DRM).
>>
>>741874292
This is cope, just like valve saying it is basically selling them at cost and then saying if you cant afford it you are too poor for pc gaming.
>>
>>741874782
I can see Lenovo making their own seeing as they are licence to sell hardware with steamOS on it. With all the noise people are making it is showing that there is a demand for something like this.
>>

no, you're just a consolenigger that fundamentally doesn't understand the pc market

Valve likely went to AMD and said what can you get us for cheap? It is the same thing they did with the deck. They just lucked out with the deck because the handheld space was meh at release. If they released the 'eck now at $900, we would be having the same convo.
>>

Yes, they released a shitty box so that a French company would release a tutorial on how to install Steamos. Gabe won again!

yes, they want the living room conquered and they don't care who provides the hardware since they provide the software and make money off games
again retard, you understand nothing about pc gaming
valve makes what? $100 per machine that costs $1k?
they make that same $100 off $330-500 spent on steam, a much better margin
>>
>steamos for no reason whatsoever when every alternative is better
Valve got the masses scrambling to adopt the form factor they wanted and their OS just like last time. I'm told by the swarthy masses of /v/ they lost.

Yet every non-deck UMPC owner immediately switched, with that holoiso crap even before Bazzite settled in.

How do people not realize that this and other cheaper/more powerful mini PCs are only benefiting Valve? The point isn't them selling their machine themselves (although they benefit from that obviously), it's pulling more people into their ecosystem, doubly since this machine as well as others are shipping with either SteamOS or distros like Bazzite/Cachyos. In terms of Steam users, this is also a massive boon as the more devices like this or the Steam Deck are adopted the bigger emphasis there will be on proton development, and pushing developers to target weaker hardware by working on their optimization. Having competitors like this benefit everyone.

Not in the long run after you pay your subscription. Subscriptions are always less value than outright buying something, but halfwits only think in short term.

also, what games and what "free" games? you're still paying for them, but let's call them free for the sake of the argument
start naming some

You got 10 exclusives total, plus 1 VR game

>>
>>741875446
From what I've experienced with Steam Deck it really doesn't require anything at all, in the way of techsavviness.
Going to Desktop mode is slightly hidden under the power option, and if you're going there you are met with a straight forward desktop layout, a simple enough file/folder explorer and a discover/dolphin thing where you can just search for programs you need or want.
Wanting to do more advanced things like installing emulators is already something a normie and a couchboy won't do, but might have a friend with the knowhow do.
The big picture default mode (console brain mode) is smooth and most people won't ever need to go out of it

You're free to see the hardware surveys, Valve itself has more in-depth data, because not everone shares their hardware data

Were you not aware that vast majority of PC users have absolute toasters? It's why games like CS and League of Legends are popular.
>>741872073
Interviews with Valve employees, I don't remember the exact ones, but if you look at any of the mainstream hardware shills like Linus, Gamersnexus etc. iirc, they all include the part about the "70% users" thing, and it's no bull, since Valve has that data, and they share it for the users to see, vast majority have shit rigs.

Every time someone logs into their steam account in one of those cafes for the first time, it dings the survey. The survey is by account not by machine. You have a single garbage machine duplicated hundreds of times in that survey. And this is happening across hundreds of internet cafes each with dozens of machines. It is possibly the most inaccurate survey based on actual hardware use possible.
Call me when the steam hardware survey allows you to filter out duplicate mac addresses, until then it makes you look like a fool to defer to it(which is exactly the target audience for the scam machine).
