Lord of the Mysteries is the biggest fantasy novel in China, it recently also got a (chinese) anime.
The story is a chinaman is transported to a world that's like victorian era England themed, but also secretly has magic and cults in the vibe of 19th century spiritualism. Think Sherlock Homes mixed with Lovecraft under the surface.
Protagonists main goal is to go back home, but is also sidetracked by revenge and connections he make in the new world.
Unlike other isekai stories he's not terribly powerful for most of the story, but does have special characteristics which he finds ways to leverage.
I've read it and it pretty good (You can find it for free online, on scraper sites). Anime is meh.
