Here's my schizo theory that is probably completely incorrect but I like making up my own interpretations of stories for fun. Heather/Cheryl/Alessa is basically the female (i.e. inverse) God. This God can impregnate a host and incarnate in a physical human body like the Christian one, but since she is female she can impregnate and give birth to herself over and over and that's how she maintains her immortality (she is a physical being, not metaphysical like the traditional God, remember I said inverse so things are somewhat opposite). The cult's plan beginning in SH1 is to hijack this process and make the next birth into a demonic entity spawn by torturing her as much as possible (emotionally and/or physically) because of whatever their belief system is, probably what Claudia said about them thinking a God born from suffering would be better.Harry and Heather both interrupt the demonic spawn by using the Aglaophotis which dispels it and restores the purity of the next incarnation.

Heather understands this, and Claudia doesn't. Heather reaches out to a man who unwittingly had a hand in her father's death and gives him something to live and fight for. Claudia continues the abuse cycle.It's a rich story, but people like to keep things simple. And feminism is still the current zeitgeist.
