why arent there more games in this genre?
>>
>>741852563
There are definitely thousands of them in Steam alone.
>>
>>741852629
half of them probably published by kemco alone
>>
>>741852563
Crystal Project
Monster Girl Quest: Paradox
>>
>>741852563
Which ones have no romance in it
>>
The Job systems in FFV and Bravely feel so shallow after playing FFXI's rendition of the Job system.

Shame its trapped on a dead MMO no one has played, its probably the best RPG system Final Fantasy ever had.
>>
>>741852563
Square Enix alone has probably made about 50 of these.

Systems like FF2 leveling and FF7 materia where you can freely customize stats and abilities to create your own jobs mog the fuck out of pre-made job systems.
>>
>>741852563
Later Final Fantasies like VII, VIII, X and XII had better class customization systems in place.
>>
>>741852563
aren't there a couple dragon quest games that do this?
>>
>>741852563
people won't make them
>>
>>741852563
Dragon Quest 4 mogs both of those combined
>>
>>741852563
What is this genre called? 4 employed niggas in a row?
>>
>>741855930
>>741855979

The problem with classless systems has always been you end up with every character being the same kind of character doing the same things and feeling interchangeable.

Xenoblade X has a near-identical job system if you're okay with real-time combat

blue dragon

>Build every character in the same way
>"every character is the same, how could this happen to me"
And how is that different from, say, FF5's meta being all freelancers with the same exact heal and DPS rotations?
Oh wait, it isn't, almost like it's a completely fabricated issue
>>
>>741856389
This is only true if you're a min-maxing faggot.
In DnD you can also theoretically make a character who's good at everything, but the fun of the game is creating interesting characters with abilities that reflect their personality both in the good and the bad (hence the roleplaying aspect)
The classless FFs allow you to fully customize the characters to your liking and give them whatever advantages and drawbacks you desire - that's actual roleplaying.

FFV is still alone as far as I can tell where when you get a job, you get an entire usable fucking job. It's not the whole job, several (most) have alternate actives that you can use to build your own version Freelance style but you never have to worry about equipping Black Mage not being able to use Firaga as long as you bought the spell. A Dragoon can always Jump. A Dancer can always Dance. You have full-bodied stats that can be used as if the class was already fully realized. You never have to 'invest' in a job, you just get the job.
BD doesn't get it. Dimensions doesn't get it. Four Heroes of Light doesn't get it. I don't think a single fucking indie gets it. It sucks, man.

in ffx or other rpgs with sphere grid-like systems, you can beeline one “class” path and still be able to learn cure cuz it sits right next to a skill in that path anyway and costs almost no AP. You can have every party member be competent at healing for basically no investment
>well then just don’t spend 5 AP to learn cure
>just don’t engage with the game’s systems!

In ffv you actually have to level white mage to learn baseline spells. Sure it doesn’t take a lot to get there but it’s still better than oh hey let me just drop some points into white magic rq and now I can heal for the rest of the game! Your skill slots are limited as well so you have to choose between white magic and other class abilities
>>
>>741857689
This is just wrong, even FF5 has several job passives that you have to equip and aren't necessarily inherent to the job even though you get them by leveling it.
>>
When it comes to job systems, no game has managed to surpass Xenoblade 3. It took FFV's idea to the extreme and I highly doubt it will ever be surpassed even by newer FF or BD.
>>
>>741852563
Since when are there only two JRPGs?
>>
>>741852563
Bravely Default wish it was 10% as good as FFV. It's not even as good as FFI or FFIII.
>>
>>741857689
>ff5fag
>has not played any other jrpg
>still doesn't understand his one games extremely limited system anyway

>classless system
>everyone ends up being some sort of spellblade archetype
>doesn't even fit the character's personalities
>>
>>741860616
Have you tried not being a minmaxing faggot with zero imagination? The game never forces you to build them all the same way, you just do that on your own because you can.
>>
>>741856389
FF7 avoid that by having each characters equip a different weapons and via the limit breaks.
>>741855930
>Systems like FF2 leveling
That's called Saga, and some of them have something similar to a class system anyway.
>>
>>741857971
They're literally the same exact shit, retard, it's just that one system doesn't have a named container for whatever skill you want
>>
is the back half of bravely default literally just doing the same 4 bosses over and over? I had fun but now ive gone through 2 loops and I checked the chapter list and it seems like I have 3 more
>>
>>741866268
Yes, chapters 5-8 of BD are notoriously shit for having to awaken the crystals again with the actual plot being very light (and in some ways contradictory depending on what you do). The actual meat of the loops is to do the asterisk bosses again because there's usually some difference that gives you more insight on their characters. If you're getting bored and already have a setup that can clear the crystal bosses without any problems there's nothing wrong with using that to blast through each chapter to get to endgame at which point you can grind if necessary or go find good gear.
>>
>>741866268
There's a small sidequest to unlock the Sage's job, but you can just turn encounters off and focus on the 4 bosses to get the loops done in like 10 minutes.
The last loop has a fun boss rush with the asterisk bosses forming synergistic teams though, it's a pretty fun challenge.
>>
>>741855979
They really didn't
>>
>>741865679
they’re not though
In ffv and BD your skills are tied to your current job and you can essentially “equip” a different job’s skills if you leveled it enough. And there is a limited number of slots for job skills, so there is actually a trade-off to picking white magic lvl.1 over another job’s abilities

In the sphere grid, you just unlock cure and that character forever has the ability to cast it
