So news outlets ran with this story last November, and I think this is hands down the dumbest comment Valve could have made, because it's obviously flawed.
The data for the Steam hardware survey is collected globally, but the Steam Machine is only sold in the more affluent regions of the world.
So from the very start the real question was "Is it better than what people already have, in the market we're going to sell it in?".
Who cares if it's more powerful than what inaians have if you're not selling it there, and if they can't afford it even if you did?
Add to that the 4k60 (with FSR) claim and it's like they set themselves up for failure even from a purely marketing standpoint.

Is the whole idea of a Steam Machine cursed?
>>
The Steaming Machine outperforms my machine, for sure
But my machine is free, because I already possess it
Are they going to pay me to switch to the Steamer?

>But my machine is free, because I already possess it
You still paid for it, a more apt comparison would be what sort of an upgrade you can do for the same amount of money.

You won't be getting a lot in this thread.
It's too plain, there's no bait to lure people in.

its bait to get everyone to produce more competing slopcubes to overthrow the console market. sony pissed them off real bad by dropping pc support. consumers? winning in 2026? ha.

Nah, even in the Steam survey charts it hasn't been the most popular card in ages and keeps slipping in market share.
