After chapter 5, it feels like Toby didn't really learn anything from the criticism Undertale got. I thought it was going to be a big improvement when chapter 1 was such a strong beginning, but now, I think I was giving Deltarune too much leeway.

Undertale's morality was rather black and white which the game seemed to be skewering in chapter 1, but then the King's character got softened with additional chapters and now Flowery is yet another "not a bad person just misunderstood" kind of anti-villain like Queen and Tenna. Alphys' and Undyne's romance felt a bit forced and out of nowhere? Let's make Noelle and Susie even more forced and out of nowhere, they literally get two scenes together before they decide to start dating despite Kris and Noelle, Kris and Susie and even Susie and Ralsei having more moments and chemistry! And now that the game is more than halfway over yet still refusing to give us any fucking answers as to the million mysteries it contains, it looks like we're getting our obligatory JRPG exposition dump at the end again, just like Undertale.

It's all so tiresome.
