The star fox games need a healthy mix of ground combat. Assault was a good first step but Nintendo heard the small loud group cry and went back to remaking 64. This game really has all of the remake-itis you could possibly imagine. I think fortunately, the only think that's at least equal or better is the controls. The graphics are really good but as always, about 50% of the time there's questionable artistic changes. The voices are, at best, "better acted then before". In reality I think the new voice acting is still bad AND charmless.I was fine with the cutscenes, even if I knew I'd skip them all after the second time, but they barely add anything. It's literally all just mission briefings. They also fucked up the feedback, which doesn't bother me, but I've already seen new players really struggle to understand where they're supposed to be hitting stuff.It's a real shame. The sound is what killed it for me. Of course, the VAs are terrible, but the weak lasers and explosions actually hurt the gameplay. You don't get that clear auditory feedback when you hit enemies and the charge shot is so quiet I couldn't immediately tell when it was charged half the time whereas in the original the sound was so clear and distinct that you could fire the charge as soon as you heard it and the sound of it traveling through the air and detonating were clear enough to know when you could fire another one without even watching. Combined with the slightly different lock on for charged shots, this had me dropping the charge before it was ready several times in the demo. The music was a bit too quiet, too. Combined with wider field of view with the updated visual, there were stretches of the demo where there was nothing around and very little sound and I just waited awkwardly until the next enemy appeared on screen. A bit more punch to the music would have helped there, at least.
