Why are mech games so hard to get right?

In the case of simulators where you actually pilot the mechs, the problem is that mechs don't make sense in reality, so you can't even simulate the experience. MechWarrior 2, which is considered a simulator, puts you in a parallel universe where the ground is completely flat and there's basically nothing there, but modern games need to create more convincing environments, and in a real-world setting, you wouldn't be able to take two steps in a mech without tripping...
So the solution is to make a shitty-ass FPS, but with worse controls, because if you move around too freely, it'll just feel like a normal FPS where you're giant.

The best western mech game ever made was Mechwarrior 3, and it has never been replicated. Slow movement, highly customizable mechs, destructable environments, military themes. Frankly, the genre is too masculine for modern devs to get right, or to care about to begin with.

I don't understand the desire for a "titanfall spiritual successor." Maybe i don't get what people like about TTF2 but I feel like the people I see wanting a TF3 simply just glaze TF2 mindlessly and just "want more." What exactly needs adding or changing in that case?

TF2 has so many issues that anyone trying to replicate it will either split its playerbase trying to fix them or go about having the same problems.

It already exist and its Mechwarriors 5: Mercenaries. The game + DLCs are on discount right now. Grab the succession war bundle + maybe shadow of kerensky for late game mechs + 17 new biomes. There's a lot of cool mods on steam workshop too
