As someone who has nephews and works in this stuff. I see all of gaming slowing down soon. These system should primarily be affordable to families and kids yet, it's only tech enthusists or the die hards still buying. It'll have a huge spike for pokemon, but unless something changes or they announce a price drop I don't see this momentum lasting. Every mainline GTA and RDR game thus far has achieved an easy 90+ Metacritic average with most of them rising to the 95+ range. If you're predicting this game will be Cyberpunk tier then understand you are predicting something that would be totally unprecedented in Rockstar's history. Yes, studios do have downfalls, but most of the major examples can be seen well in advance (Bethesda's controversies started way back with Fallout 4 many years before Starfield's disaster, and CD Projekt did not have an unblemished record before CP2077 by any means.)

The problem with a Switch 2 Lite is it would require a die shrink like the original, which is probably going to be expensive for the time being. There would be some savings in manufacturing with a smaller screen and no dock/detachable Joycons but I don't know if they would be able to price it for $100 less than the Switch 2 at least not yet. I think a Switch 2 Home edition would actually make a lot of sense this time around, a small standalone home console with no battery or screen would be much cheaper to produce and allow Nintendo to price aggressively.

And guess what? This is how modern Nintendo operates too. DK Bananza was announced just 3 months before launch with nothing else other than a cinematic reveal trailer and a railroaded Treehouse gameplay segment featuring only the very first level. OOT Remake is 4 or 5 months out from launch with nothing but a cinematic trailer. It's not a bad thing for a developer to maintain a sense of mystery, and top-tier devs like Nintendo and Rockstar can absolutely get away with it, so why not? Only controversial devs like Ubisoft or EA need to try and wow people with extended gameplay demos half a year+ before release.

GTA 5 was like a boring hollywood movie which I've never finished even for free. RDR2 is another example of how they've regressed. No freedom whatsoever, slow clunky gameplay.

Crossworlds is a fun game, but it is kinda cringey to see the Sonic fandom attempt to basically astroturf it into the status of being a Mario Kart-tier game. It obviously wasn't going to work like that. Team Sonic Racing was very underwhelming (it had decent sales, but basically only as stocking-filler for kids) so Crossworlds has an uphill battle to convince people it isn't just a throwaway experience like its predecessor.

Also? Releasing the Switch 2 version 3 months after launch for no reason was a huge mistake IMO. Plenty of Nintendo gamers skipped the game because they weren't willing to play a compromised experience via Switch 1, and by the time the actually competent S2 port was out, the hype was long since dead.

Things are different, but if anything, they're different in the exact opposite way to what you're implying. In the 2000s and the early 2010s you could justify doing some big showcase of a game at an E3 or whatever and then release it over a year later, and everything would stay fresh in people's minds because the gaming audience was of a different generation and had longer memories and attention-spans.

You simply can't do that these days. It's not worth it. A 24/7 social media news-cycle and non-stop Tiktok brainrot means that the longer you wait inbetween reveal to release, the more chance it's been overwritten by something else inside people's brains.

Same reason why Nintendo's console release strategies changed. It used to be they'd unveil them at E3 one year, then re-reveal them at the following year's E3, and release it that holiday season (Revolution/Wii unveiled E3 '05, re-revealed E3 '06, released holiday '06, and Wii U unveiled E3 '11, re-revealed E3 '12, and released holiday '12). If Nintendo did that with the Switch 2 it would have utterly killed the hype.
