Honest thoughts on Dark Souls 15 years later?
>>741892479Pretty fun mostly
Gold standard of level design.
Good. Soulless Vidya capitalism ruined it though by running what this game established into the ground. Also the original devs themselves misunderstood what it was that made these games good and became a parody of themselves.
Fantastic game but I replayed it recently and its not as good as I remember. There are a lot of areas that are literally just nothing or are really bad.Blighttown, the Depths, Tomb of the Giants, Lost Izalith are all bad.A lot of the other areas are really simple and empty like Seath's Castle or Demon Ruins. Also I genuinely cannot understand why you can only dodge in 4 directions when locked on. That is the #1 thing that has killed me on this playthrough and really holds the combat back.
Sorcery is very useful.
>>741892479kind of shitty jank, 1 had good map design, 3 was overall goodshould have stuck to dungeon crawlers for the genre, and overly relying on iframes just feel weird in slow paced games, as if it was never meant to work that way
Everything made by fromsoft after Scholar of the First Sin = fromslopThey thought they could turn their games into mostly action games and failed miserably. Spamming the roll button is not fucking good action gameplay and never will be.
>>741893426>>741893276your family thinks you are a burden
>>741892479It like Zelda... But if it was good.
>>741892479People claiming the souls formula was used up early on are wrong, the problem is more so that From didn't do much with it either. The games could have been much more creative and interesting in terms of the landscapes, verticality and so on, it's wasted potential but maybe we'll get there in 20 years kappa
>>741893426Rolling is pure kino.
genuinely feed bad for ppl who played ds1 after elden ring. that game was so magical for me during that era of gaming
>>741892479Very fun, the only Souls game that feels like an adventure. Dark Souls 2 came close but it had too many issues, and it feels more like a souls-ified king's field game in atmosphere and story. Dark Souls 3 is fucking boring an is the worst of them all by far despite the glazing it gets.

>>741893426>Scholar of the First SinI playing that right now and I gotta say every complaint I've heard was completely right.>Somehow feels slower than DaS1 and DeS>Terrible map design>Abhorrent attack tracking>Too many mob enemies Dark Souls 2 is just a badly designed game.
>>741893813I've been enjoying DS2 on a replay because of how it reminds me of DS1 where it feels like you have to be very deliberate and slow paced, and has lots of interesting quirks like water (even if they could be better used), but yeah it's a shame there's so many dodgy parts or just things that are remarkably tedious.
unique game with interesting ideas that pushed boundaries, even if it didn't fully realize them.sadly the games that came after dialed back those ideas in the name of streamlining for more mass appeal, and also the fact newer releases just got datamined so the mystery (which is an essential part of the design of the game) evaporated almost immediately and the dreaded "meta" came to destroy any multiplayer fun
>>741892479First time playing I was like Shuhei Yoshida. I didn't get it, it was too hard, too different from how I'd been conditioned to play most games, and after dying in Undead Burg for the 20th time I gave up. Second time around I really tried to get into it and something just clicked, loved the careful exploration of the ruins. Kind of wish I could experience that again, discovering the genre for the first time.
>>741893963ngl im getting fucking raped by random fuck tards
>>741892479finished it again recently. still great. this may be the last run i could possibly have done something new as i never used claws before. i've done just about every kind of character in the game by this point.
>>741892721I loved that The Surge took the interconnected stuff from DS1 and pushed it as far as they could.
>>741892479Still one of the most soulful experiences within the past two decades
>>741892721>standardThat would mean that others are following suit and are designing levels just as well. No, this is exceptional level design because the gold standard is a corridor that twists and bends a little here and there and a shortcut is "push button to teleport to hub" tier shit.
It felt like an actual evolution and the next logical step in dungeon crawling.
>>741892479still the best souls game
>>741895698And what we got instead is them taking the formula and turning it open world. Is that irony?
>>741892479It's still great, and I thank god every day that it slowed the horrible trend of "casualization" that was so pronounced at the time.
>>741892479Never played Demon Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne and played only 15 minutes of Elden Ring.
>>741892479this game is goodif Elden Ring actually felt like playing this game but simply in an open world it would be better2 shows they barely have any idea what was actually good about 1 or DeSBB is a nice tight masterpiece but sets a lot of bad precedents for what the pace of 3 and ER should look like3 once again shows they don't know what was good about SoulsSekiro was GOATed simply for doing it's own thing and doing it well, people need to stop trying to copy it though.
sucked on consoles, sucked with first PC port, still sucks with the remasterit will never be good and I to pity anyone that praises such slop
>>741892479Favorite game of all time. What should that tell you?
God-king of the entire Fromsoft catalog and it's not even close. DeS had growing pains, 2/3 were them playing too hard into the "le hardest game ever" reputation (compare Asylum Demon to Gundur and you'll get what I mean), BB is in Snoy jail, Sekiro is inoffensively decent, and Elden Ring is the big budget babby one. I hate myself because I can't remember how to correctly get DSFix working to play PTD as intended and I honest to god may finally bite the bullet on remastered to get my fix.
>>741892479Playing as archer sucks and they didn't changed it in later games at all. I can't roleplay as Legolas.
