Why is there so many people on this board who love oblivion?
What does it even do right?
Isn't it just nostalgia-fagging?
>>
>>741892518
First modernized 3d fantasy rpg on 360.
Thats it. There's honestly nothing special about it aside from the music.

>Isn't it just nostalgia-fagging?
It is. Other than being silly and soulful Oblivion does almost nothing right.
>>
>>741892518
>simple combat and magic system allows for playing the game with any build unlike morrowind that punishes you for creating a shit character
>can raid any dungeon at any point
>fun quests with multiple outcomes
>stylized colorful graphics
>Jeremy SOVLE
pure unfiltered honest jank, remaster can eat shit.
>>
>>741892518
To this day oblivion has by far the best side quests in the entire series. I don't give a fuck about anything other than having interesting quests that I remember years after playing
>>
>>741892518
Is there? Whenever the game is talked about here there's a 75% chance that people will shit on it, even moreso after the demaster. The game is both less played and less discussed than either Morrowind or Skyrim. And I mean what does it offer, outside of the music if you grew up with it? Morrowind is better narratively, Skyrim is better mechanically, both TES3 and TES5 can be greatly improved through modding while Oblivion's modding scene always prioritized trying to not make the game look ugly as bloom shit and trying to fix the awful level scaling. At best people say the Dark Brotherhood's good, but what they really mean is that they liked the first half of the questline because of Whodunnit and little else. We get weekly threads about the Skyrim civil war.

It's just the literal definition of a 6/10 game that sought a console playerbase after OG Xbox Morrowind sold great, and benefited from releasing relatively early in the 360's lifespan before Halo 3. It's not good.
>>
>>741893563
>interesting quests
Which ones?
The one were your sent to the copy and pasted dungeons 10x in a row for a guild mission?
>>
>>741893703
It's staggering how much the remaster's success mindbroke you brainless drones

>>

Morrowind's brown corridors or Skyrim's blue corridors are not more impressive for being hand crafted

Anon, the Demon's Souls Remake-tier dumpsterfire was somehow buggier than the original and abandoned patch-wise less merely a year after release. Everybody stopped making content about it. Players stopped playing and talking about it. People old and young realized how much worse Oblivion at its core was and dropped it.
>>
>>741894262
I advise you to replay oblivion. I replayed it a couple of months ago and was astonished by how all the dungeons felt like EXACT copies of one another, I never remembered it being that bad from the 360 days. Went to play skyrim a little later and was surprised by how much variation the dungeons had compared to oblvion it was a trillion times better.
For the record I remember all the skyrim dungeons being copy and pasted draguar tombs but it wasn't nearly the same kind of bad as oblivion.

>Other than being [Fun] (the only thing that matters in regards to whether a game is good or not), it has almost nothing going for it.
>>
>>741892518
There aren't many here that love Oblivion, because loving Oblivion is an IQ test and the brown majority of /v/ scores in the low double digits. They fall into two camps: liking Skyrim because it was mechanically simpler and has coomer mods, or liking Morrowind because they were told to like it when they first stumbled upon this shithole board and they're afraid to ask why
>>
>>741894262
You must've loved Starfield.
>>
>>741894530
I distinctly remember playing 20-30 hours of oblivion at a time without even entering a dungeon. I struggle to see why people who apparently want to play dungeon crawlers choose open world RPGs instead

because gaming is mainstream, so tons of normies "play games". It's shallow, stupid, and performative, just as everything else the normies ever do. So they will eat pig shit if it will add imaginary cattle goy points to their current normies status in the herd.
>oblivion was always good
>oblivion is such a good game
and so forth, are such retarded marketing points they're parroting it's not even funny. everybody hates original oblivion back in the day, not in the least because of the horse armor. but only 2.5 true oldfag gamers member.

TL;DR: instead of playing and praising actually good old games, the unwashed masses of goyim are mindlessly consooming and parroting the pre-approved talking points of their masters.
>>
>>741894749
You do realize TES is a dungeon crawler franchise right.
>>
>>741893412
>fun quests with multiple outcomes
Bulltshit, they were very superficial and were rare.
>>
>>741894430
Not the point though is it. Your pedo/furry mods work better in skyrim and your degenerate friends flock to it but oblivion mogs it hard in every respect.
>>
>>741894749
You ever wondered why Bethesda added 220+ dungeons to the game if they didn't want players to visit them? Or why they then developed Sundercliff Watch?
>>
>>741894905
I kind of feel like different games of a franchise can have a different focus but this idea may be too extreme for some
>>

You seem to be arguing with furry phantoms in your own head, anon. That's grim.
>>
>>741895129
These furry phantoms tend to dominate skyrim threads for some reason
>>
>>741892518
>it's fun
>it has enjoyable characters, enjoyable setting, enjoyable gameplay, enjoyable music, enjoyable story, enjoyable everything
>it just looks kind of shit because they rushed it out the door at the end instead of waiting for a finished copy of the facegen software
I can't wait to see OP replying with "um, actually those don't count because reasons" like usual.

>>741893730
oh look, I called it once again
>>
>>741895072
But they don't. From Arena to Skyrim, every mainline TES + Shadowkey and Battlespire are dungeon crawlers with life sim elements. As far back as TES 1 you could visit towns, sell loot, visit inns, get side quests etc. but the focus was on the dungeons. Daggerfall's focus? Dungeons. With the Todd Trilogy, nine out of ten quests lead you to dungeons. What did Bethesda do to Fallout when they acquired it? Turn it into TES with guns and fill the Capital Wasteland map with dungeons. The *core* of their games is looting dungeons then selling loot back in a city to get better gear then fuck off to a new dungeon, rinse and repeat.

Its a bit of nostalgia for me to defend it now for sure, but I always liked it and still do.

>incredible world with interesting character AI, they're a bit unhinged but they're always doing something
>complex NPC schedules keep things feeling occupied despite the limitations of the gen
>I never hated having to sleep to level up, it felt cozy to me and like a natural way to get the player to use in game beds and inns and such.
>levelling system for stat distribution is debatable, I can see why people dislike it but I never felt that bad gaming it a little for a better statline
>quests are fantastic, guilds are fantastic
>soundtrack is stellar, absolutely soulful
>I LIKE the NPC graphics, are they objectively brilliant? No, but I always loved how they look personally.

I just like the game, sorry, my modern cynicism doesn't retroactively make me hate oblivion.
Shitrim doesn't even have stats and everyone looks like a junkie.
>>
>>741892518
>Isn't it just nostalgia-fagging?
Pretty much yeah.
>>
>>741895325
Nope, the nine out of ten line is pure bullshit. When people discuss their favorite oblivion quests you never even hear of a dungeon, because a huge number of them don't even involve dungeons but open areas or houses
>>
>>741892518
Game will never live down the "deleted jungle Cyrodiil to turn it into discount High Rock feat. LOTR" allegations.

Life sim elements mostly. Overworld was comfy and Jeremy was Sovl. It had very little mechanical depth, but ultimately it didn't matter when you could buy yourself a home and spend an hour decorating it with your loot.

you could look up the oral history where that quote is from and read several other developers say similar stuff if you wanted.
