Maybe, but what they're showing is tripping the same red flags that DD2's reveal gave me.
No inspiring music, the SAME fucking enemies as before AGAIN, making a huge deal over small fixes, etc. I'm detecting a severe lack of sovl that plagued DD2 and I don't like what is most likely going to happen.

Dragon's Dogma will never reach its potential because its scale is too costly and time consuming. The reason DD2 and DD2DA rehash so much DD1 content is because DD1 was actually a very expensive title that ate up a lot of devs at Capcom. For Dragon's Dogma not to feel undercooked it would probably need a Cyberpunk tier budget and dev time, and Capcom isnt interested in megaprojects anymore after RE6. Why spend years making a new Dragon's Dogma when you could probably make 3 Resident Evil games with the same manpower that will sell better? The juice isnt worth the squeeze.

That didn't really show/tell us much. I saw the new skill screen but I'd like to know what buttons those actually correspond to, I guess that's too much to tell us apparently. My guess is R2 and L2. As I thought, they really think that RNG loot is what people liked about BBI and not the actual dungeon itself. My expectations for these 12 is extremely low because in order to make that many, they're likely going to have to be tiny while following the same formula. It'll still be fun but I don't know why Capcom isn't capable of making like an actual large dungeon, I guess only Fromsoft knows that secret art nowadays.

DD:DA is legitimately one the best adventure RPGs. Amazing breath of exploration that's filled with a crazy amount of little nooks and crannies you can get lost in. Pawns are an amazing concept that will NEVER EVER be replicated again by a better studio. There is a huge level of interactivity with the world like avoiding deep water so as to not get drenched/drown/slowed down or windy cliffsides blowing off your smaller party members.

And that's not even getting into the dungeon crawling and class/RPG systems which are both very well thought out.

Basically a product of it's time. One of few last shouts of creativity in an industry that's been stagnant since 2007.

I'm not actually asking for brand new ideas otherwise I wouldn't be fiending for a game that's all about traditional old school vanilla fantasy stuff.

Nah, a huge part of DD's appeal is its ambitious systems that's way more interactive than basically anything else in the genre, if this was easy to copy you'd see tons of DD copycats by now. Souls gets copied because even indie devs can make soulslikes, and indie dev could never make a dogmalike

Okay, I gotta admit I'm a little sceptical, but I'm willing to keep an open mind. They've been presumably designing this area from the ground up with the BBI gameplay loop in mind, so it might work pretty well. Big issues the main game's open world had was the lack of a real loot incentive beyond just upgrade materials and the enemy variety and difficulty themselves. The relics solve the former issue and the other two may be remedied in this area.
Gear seems like it can multiple skills on it, so that sounds like it'll be fun (and gacha hell).
New dungeons are confirmed to be unique, so that's good. Could minotaurs always have that red glow on their head, or might that have been a new variant? Same with that drake.
Main thing I'm a little disappointed to not see mentioned is any kind of increased difficulty mode for the base game. I won't hold out hope for it at this point. It might still be announced at a later date but it'll be a surprise to me.

and the free eternal ferrystone at the start of the game also suggests a sort of tone deafness because even if you hate the traveling on foot in dd, that's just about the most lame bandaid solution to the problem you could come up with

2 actually had a lot of various caves and such, the issue was that they were absolutely tiny and usually only a few rooms at most. What 2 really needed was an actual, proper large-scale dungeon with a high amount of effort put into it, not 12 more tiny dungeons. Capcom's treatment of the base game was pretty bad. The negative response to microtransactions and performance killed the game overnight. It took them months to patch the game to improve the performance and then after that were tiny fixes and additions, like the cover art armor. They probably wanted to milk fans with MTX but scrapped the whole thing due to the feedback. Im hoping for some more stuff in the way of character customization like a skin swapper or something so people can actually play dressup for sharing characters, the linear progression in a game about sharing characters is awful because everyone just wears the best in slot gear, or the same slutmog, I want to see people actually have something to work with. They haven't mentioned this so I don't expect this to actually happen, but in BBI necrophage enemies would mostly spawn out of thin air right in front of you. Maybe Norgan has a similar system? Or at least, it's out in the open air, which leaves potential for flying enemies to crash any party, even if it's not explicitly systematized like it was in BBI.

Linear progression is the issue, in terms of gear you ramp exponentially and that if you play your favourite class and dont split stats your stats go through the roof very easily very quickly.

Basically the game is balanced around level 30 in stats, but since your gear is a linear upgrade you can be level 30 but your gear is level 60, and your just blasting through enemies that dont stand a chance because the game has no way to actually account for you having better and better gear. Seems like NG+ really shouldve done something like

I thought re-working some things like vocations, and adding some things like dungeons and enemies, would make the game legitimately great. I gave up on DLC after a whole year of silence. I was astonished when they reveal DA2. After this gameplay breakdown, I'm somehow even more astonished that they took two whole years to address literally none of the main complaints about the base game, and despite calling it DA, aren't even adding a well-crafted mega dungeon.

A "dungeon" doesn't necessarily have to be fully indoors, people just want more deliberate levels with lots of parts to explore and a well thought out layout. The more open areas are still fun but the game needs an actual destination to explore. Dungeons were a part of the first game but they were also pretty small which is exactly why I wanted Capcom to improve on them instead of just giving us nunerous small caves. Dungeon crawling is very much part of the classic fantasy RPG trope as well and the combat and systems in DD are simply very good for it. What Elden Ring did is essentially what I really wanted in the sense that it's open world but actually has these large legacy dungeons as enticing areas to explore within the open world. I don't want Capcom to copy everything From does of course but I did want them to look at how they're capable of making these meaty large dungeons.

Vocations aren't a flaw of a game, they're a matter of preference. It's not bad just because it's not what you wanted, and it's only an issue for people who had expectations already from 1. The vocation system works just fine in 2, and has plenty of variety and options. It doesn't need additions, even if it would be nice.
Dungeons has already been addressed.
The 3rd area is just an extension of Battahl, same as Dragonsbreath tower. It's not any more linear than Vermund or Battahl, just smaller, because it's only really a large sub-area of Battahl. It even connects directly to the capital of Battahl. This isn't a flaw, why would it even need addressing to start with?

People were definitely complaining about Trickster, almost no one talks about Magick and regular Archer outside of the specific enemy exploits you can do with the former. Everything else suffers from the aforementioned reduction of skills except Warrior which only really exists so people can pretend to be a really slow Guts. Spearhand was the only notable new inclusion because it had fancy skills but I feel like most people just defaulted to old vocations the longer they played the game.

ANY hope? Maybe Mystic Knight skills will be repurposed for Fighter or Mystic Spearhand since they're bringing back skills like Downpour Volley and Brontide. I could see Stone Grove/Forest, Demonspite/wrath and Holy Wall/Fortress making it back as Fighter skills. Could have permanently-enchanted shields so you can use Enchanted Counter more readily. Magick Shields models are used for regular shields and Maces are just a fighter weapon type, so more of those will probably appear. Between that and 6 skill wayfarer you can bootleg a mystic knight.

I'm still mad at them not actually fixing the most damning gameplay flaws DD2 has:
>Enemy/encounter variety is still shit
>Story is still dogshit that is so bad that it actively ruins the enjoyment of the rest of the game
>There are not enough vocations in the game, it needs at least 3 more in order to round it out
>The leveling/stat system is still ass
>The game becomes piss easy the moment you start exploring kitty land
>The "AI" has some massive and obvious flaws that just become even more obvious if you ever try to break out of prison
>The game has all of these neat ideas that just ends up going nowhere, "permanent" NPC deaths being one of them, but dragonsplauge shines a MASSIVE spotlight on how it's all a farce and everyone just respawns about 24 in-game hours after being killed.

They could at the very least have had a "Hard Mode" included with the DLC that rearranges spawn points for enemies and adds some form of enemy scaling, even if it's just something basic like "For every 1 level, enemies become 25% stronger up to a cap based on region". The single thing that gives me hope is that they ended the gameplay reveal with KinoSHITa saying that they'll keep patching the game even after the DLC has been released (At least I hope that is what he meant)
