Why do indie devs struggle with recreating the visuals of old games even with all the freely available resources

stop posting screenshots from other websites because you are afraid of confrontation and don’t want to say something to that person yourself
Because you can't fake fumbling through low tech garbage tools like the original devs had to.Look at the resolution in that image, it makes the low res texture work look even worse. Look at the fucking lighting, the N64 couldn't do that shit if it wanted to. Look at the sprite work on the back of that kart, it looks like it'd be one of those higher fidelity 2d games we last saw on platforms like Nintendo DS.You can mine the aesthetic but you can't take modern tools and expect your work to look like work made with crude, more archaic versions of those tools and a smaller body of knowledge from which to pull from when using them.
>>741901973The N64 games everyone remembers like Zelda OoT and Perfect Dark had big teams with multiple people developing and creating the game. One single human being cannot compete with this.
>>741901973Works on my machine
>>741902373Looks far too modern
>>741901973Because most of them aren't trying to perfectly recreate those visuals, they're just going for something similar. Devs who actually want to mimic those visuals 1:1 can easily do so simply by limiting the hardware they use, like what the Cuphead devs are doing with the spin-off game.
>>741902468How so?
>>741901973Because devs were FORCED to work with the hardware at the time and found ways to work with it. Modern devs can basically make anything they want, so they dont have any real restrictions to work around.
>>741902652>head is round instead of being 3 triangles
>>741902548>Because most of them aren't trying to perfectly recreate those visualsThe fag in the OP image is explicitly trying to do that
>>741901973because the creation of anything involves millions of micro-decisions. this just cant be replicated.
