What do you think about video game board games?
>>
>>741903547
I've never played a board game in my life

Being born after 1999 truly is a terrible thing.
>>
>>741903878
What's the point of board games when video games are readily available and more comfortable to play?
>>
I assume they're going to be slop in the same way that I assume video games based on movies will be slop 99% of the time
I am interested in the metal gear game though since the designer made specter ops which was really good
>>
>>741903547
There's a metal gear board game?!?!?!?
>>
>>741903547
The thing with board game is that the theme is usually loose enough to not really matter in the grand scheme of things. A recognized IP being pasted on is more of a marketing boost than anything else, with some exceptions, like

>>741904138
The Metal Gear game is actually really good and uses its theme well, fun gameplay and keeps the surprises you find in the actual video game and uses it in very clever ways, I had a lot of fun with it.

Some are really great, some are really fucking bad.
>>
>>741904085
Board games are a tighter designed experience since they are limited to pieces and bits rather than being able to churn out a 200gb unoptimized piece of shit with no real meaningful gameplay.
Playing in person will also strenghten relationships closer than any amount of voice chat will do. And the tactile feeling itself of the game makes it feel much better than video games. They are pretty different niches though. I'd never play an RTS-like or DnD board game because RTS and point and click are better desgined for computers for example.

Yeah and it's good. It even comes with VR missions. I liked playing it solo rather than multiplayer though.

Euroslop mentality

>>741904834
This could be about Scooby Doo villains chasing the gang and it'd be the same thing. Just as dogshit too.

do boredtroons really
>>
>>741904834
Man I remember when I played this and 2 turns in a Queen Alien gets in the ship and immediately kills 2 of the guys that were near, meanwhile I'm on the other side of the map trying to find my way out only to get cucked by more spawns with nobody making it out alive. It was very fun.

This.
>>
>>741905656
Kek. It happened to me too.
The storytelling in this game is insane, it's a new alien movie every fucking time.
>>
>>741903726
I've only played the "old board games everyone's grandparents have in the closet" stuff and even then haven't played in years. Monopoly, Yahtzee, that type of thing where the goal is meant to be unfun or fucking other players over. A few friends of a friend of mine tried inviting me to a game of Catan and aside from them being assholes looking for an easy new player to shit on because most of them have Aspergers and never outgrew the "kid who hands you the player 2 controller but doesn't tell you any of the controls and then laughs when they win" stage of game-playing, I realized I don't actually 'get' 90% of board games.
>>
>>741907110
I'm more of a strategy gamer myself but there's something about luckfests that I appreciate a lot when they work towards telling a fun story.
Another game like that is Thunder Road Vendetta, where something random always ends up making you crash and burn in the most spectacular way.
>>
>>741903547
they're fun if you have friends but man so many of them aren't faithful to the source material AT ALL
>>
>>741906216
>no DLC
Worthless
Why do board game publishers do this (other than the obvious, severe stupidity)? Dune Imperium, Ark Nova, Root also refuse to put the newest DLC on digital, do these retards actually think it will cut into their cardboard sales?
>>
>>741908657
Programming every single interaction that can happen is very time consuming. Root digital gets expansions ever couple years because the factions are so unique trying to make everything in the rules work as intended must be hell
>>
>>741903547
Aside from needing to organize and all that.
The trvke is that even with friends they're gay. You'd rather trade mons or play meccha chameleons than Monopoly kek.

Never sure if I'm playing it correctly because holy fuck the translation is bad. However the rules me and my group agreed to enjoy it. Would never sell this in a million years.
>>
>>741908860
But >>741904737 said they're tightly designed, so why are the rules for them so shit that it takes a whole AAA dev cycle just for some if statements?

There's a Pathologic board game? Is it official or a fan thing?
>>
>>741904085
Say you have no friends without saying you have no friends.
>>
>>741903547
they need to reprint the starcraft game
>>
>>741909457
I play vidya with my friends
That's another thing board game fags don't do, play. When you ask someone how often he plays his "favorite" board game he'll always say something like
>Yeah I played it four times this year
When video game players play their favorite more times than that in a single week on top of other games
>>
>>741909250
Idk how programming works but Root Digital is definitely not a huge AAA production and also adding just 1 faction means you have to code in their interactions with every other faction and vice versa, plus a map with new rules that change up how those interactions can happen, and then playtest it for bugs.
>>
>>741903547
Slay the Spire is improved through the co-op. Dark Souls is a Monopoly-tier dice chucker.

They really took the rollslop philosophy to heart!
>>
>>741909546
Those 4 times are 1000x the quality of whatever friendslop you played 50 times that week.
>>
I love board games but you guys are talking as if bgs didn't have stinkers like Exploding Kittens, The Mind or Azul.

Try Nemesis Lockdown. No need to play vanilla Nemesis ever again
>>
>>741912510
>Look it up
>Has a Steam version
>It's 80% off
>Apparently it's full of bugs and was abandoned by the devs
Every time with these digital versions.
>>
>>741903547
The minis are cool but Dark Souls is a pile of shit to actually play
Supposedly the Bloodborne boardgame is actually p good though
>>
>>741903547
Most of them are shitty mindless cashgrabs somehow worse than monopoly reskins because the attempt seems genuine
>>741904431
the hitman™ one being...?
>>741909278
Official, it's three protagonists vs the plague
>>
>>741912738
yeah, you're basically always before off just playing the tabletop sim version
>>
>>741905228
I'd play if somebody hosted
>>
>>741909546
Tell that to my multiple Legacy completed games and atleast a few times a month Gloom/Frosthaven games.
Shockingly enough a real interaction with people in real life actually is more memorable then talking to those same people but infront of a screen.
