people say Destiny is a great franchise but did it actually make money?>expensive western salaries>long wait times between content drop>low conversion of player to revenueits like a gacha game without the gacha, 10 times more expensive to develop while also 5 times slower to develop content
I tried playing it a few years ago because one of my co-workers was really into it. It was trash, I tried really hard to like it, bought the Witch Queen DLC and the previous content pack, and the gameplay was ass, the story was all over the place, and repetitive loop was boring af. The mechanics from plain old jumping to spamming energy attacks was dumb af to me. I hated this game so much I unfriended that mf since he only played Destiny, Borderlands, Apex Legends, and other loot n' poop normie shit. Destiny was one of the shittiest games I've ever played. Now, they do have a fan base, and I feel sorry for all them, but goddamn, that game made me feel like I was getting stupider the more I played it.
>>741908291>but did it actually make money?yes actually, so much that the heads of the studio spent it all on a commiefornia office with tons of new renovated features and decided to not release content for 6 months until bankruptcy.
>>741908291Gacha games are the opposite of destiny, they have extremely good profit margins because they aren’t as expensive to maintain after the initial cost
>>741908291>did it actually make moneythe expansions ended up being 100 bucks a pop each year for the good edition and they had fuckloads of microtransactionsif somebody just bought when new theyed be roughly 700 bucks in the hole.
>>741909283destiny is master nightfall strikes, dungeons and raidthe fact you didnt get to that content shows the only dumb thing here is you

>>741908291>people say Destiny is a great franchise but did it actually make money?Yeah, it made a lot of money. The reason they say "destiny didn't make enough money" is because Bungie was incubating 4 whole games at the same time relying on nothing but Destiny 2 to fund the development of all of them while taking developers from Destiny 2 to work on these other games and firing key people putting Destiny 2 into a borderline maintenance mode. Doing that stupid shit caused the player count to drop, thus blaming Destiny 2 even more. They ballooned their studio to 1.6k people and have now cut that down to around 400 after killing Destiny 2 and firing everyone who was left still working on it.With this last patch, not even an expansion it was just a QoL patch, its player count jumped back up to almost record highs proving people still want to play Destiny 2 and its problem was just there was no good content.

>>741908291>did it actually make money?Depends on what you mean>Did it make money, just money, ignore everything else and just tell me if it made big number of dollarsYes>Did it make money, as in was it profitable enough to offset the costs of developmentNo, obviously, if it did then they wouldn't have laid off half the studio and put it in maintenance mode. A lot of the reasons for that are on Bungie though, Destiny could've been big, you could even argue that it SHOULD have been big, but Bungie are both incompetent and malicious and the only reason they lasted this long is equally retarded fanbase, scamming publishers and luck
>>741908291>make gacha FPS with hot anime girls>instant moneyOnly issue would be porting it to mobile, but they had the skills to make something big.
>>741909717Why not just make Destiny 3?
>>741910956Because Destiny 2 sucked.
