I bought a 4K/240hz OLED monitor and I only just now realized it only has displayport 1.4 and there's a revision that has a single letter in the model name changed that has displayport 2.1
it's also multiple hundreds of dollars more
should I return the monitor??
why is PC gaming like this

Use HDMI 2.1 retard.
I highly doubt whatever chink company who made your garbage monitor seriously released a 4K240hz capable monitor with no connection for that enormous amount of data. it likely has hdmi 2.1

hdmi 2.1 isn't implemented on Linux for AMD yet...
they only just pushed the first update for it in the kernel recently and it's disabled until they get VRR and shit working

Welp.
Also, that's insane I can not believe that's true. HDMI2.1 is old new now.
Even if it's true then stick to 4K120hz for now. Make sure to get a real good high bandwith cable. Make sure your monitor is actually the real full 48GB HDMI 2.1 bandwith, if it doesn't support it then yeah return it. If it does then just wait for linux to get their shit together. You're not getting 240FPS at 4K on any real games anyway, especially on amd with no x3+ FG.
