FromSoft did irreparable damage to games. They basically made it a trend to make games impossibly difficult. If you're a regular person who just plays games for fun after work, you shouldn't want to play hard games. And people say "nah just get good" meanwhile they spend all day playing video games and basing their whole personality around being good at a hard game. Unless you're an e-sports person, there's no real reason for video games to be that hard. FromSoft is just an example, but there's a trend now of games being piss-in-your face difficult and for no real reason. And often they don't even deserve to be difficult because they just suck. FromSoft at least tries to make games interesting and deep.

Mate, games were artificially difficult for AGES due to technological constraints preventing games from being overly-long. All through the arcade and NES eras games were short but hard. Even into the PS1 era games were still employing this easy to play difficult to master concept. It wasn't until the PS2 era that devs really started stretching their legs with longer games focused on story and experience over gameplay and difficulty.
DeS was essentially a throwback to the era of coin-eating arcade games. I will say tho that Fromsoft missed the lesson with DeS. In DeS and even still in Dark Souls the levels themselves were the challenge and the bosses were a thematic capstone to the level, often requiring techniques/gameplay elements you learned in the level to defeat them. AotA is where they leaned more heavily into the "git gud" hard bosses style which eventually led us to ER whereby the levels are piss easy and the bosses are ballachingly annoying.
