The four other shadow crystal bosses were taken completely seriously by the story. For chapter 5, we could have gotten a shadow crystal boss with relevance to the story, like Woody, or Friend, or Asgore's shitstained underwear. But no, make way for a boss we already fought in Undertale with a lame dating game and epic anime references for the kiddies. The only reason Mew Mew is there is because Toby thought it was funny.Undertale and Deltarune are weird because they can't decide if they want to be taken seriously or not. When Undertale and Deltarune take themselves seriously, they do a fantastic job of it. However, the comedy is VERY hit-or-miss. A lot of the jokes land, but a lot of them don't. For example, Tenna was a very unsuccessful character IMO. I feel the same way about Mew Mew but at least she could have worked as a bonus fight like Mike. However, being a shadow crystal boss was a terrible idea.Toby is clearly talented and I do like Undertale and Deltarune. I don't think the comedy is where the games excel though.

>>741920353I already said I like some of the comedy. I think a lot of it is too "shitposty" though, which is a kind of comedy I don't find particularly funny. I like the more old-school comedy like the dynamic between Sans and Papyrus and the slapstick and Looney Tunes-esque gags. I think Tenna was painfully unfunny though.
